But if you've got an hour or two, these are REALLY cool. Carefully crack some walnuts so that you have two perfect halves. Remove all the nut stuff.
Pull up some neat quotes or 'fortunes' on the net. Print them around the size of the fortune in a cookie. Cut them out and place in the nutshell, and glue them back together. A really light dusting of gold spray paint, and you have what are called Guilded Walnuts. They're an old Victorian novelty. Bundle up a dozen in some clear paper or tissue. Cute huh?
Set them in a dish with a nutcracker when your guests are over for a neat little surprize.

Actually they DO have something for everyone at Lee Valley. I knocked off about 85% of my Christmas shopping there last year. Kid stuff, cook's stuff, gardener's stuff, general neat stuff. And it all came to my door.
