OK, we have a Christmas staff party happening soon. My co-worker is adamant she's going to have tons to drink but I'm like thinking, you should really just limit your consumption to just 1 glass of wine if you want to impress your supervisors.
.... or am I being a prune?
Anyways, my question is this - how much drink should one consumed at a Christmas office party?
i go by your usual alcohol consumption +1, over a period of hours.
I think you should definitely stop one drink before you decide it's a good time to be honest with anyone. Danger Danger Danger.
Have a listen to this.....it will help you make the right decision. lol

Whenever I went to a company X Mas party I would get gooned.
Im not with any of those companies anymore.. never intended to stay long with them.
My current company doesnt have xmas parties anymore.. whenever they did the booze bill was too high.
I think it depends on the office crowd and the environment. I've been to some rip-roaring work parties. But generally, I'd side with you and SD on this and go with caution. The actual amount each person can safely drink before they turn into a buffoon is particular to each individual. Personally, I can have about 3 drinks and stay coherent over dinner and still drive home.
I suppose that's true Lil Me. For instance....if your boss is wazzood.....I suppose another glass of wine won't hurt. [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/more/bigs/c008.gif" border=0]
On the other hand.....if he's got a notebook or a camera.....stick to one or two.
Or when the boss is passing around trays of shooters. After that party, Mr LM was kind enough to drive me home, hold my hair so it didn't fall in the toilet while I was puking, and then tuck me into bed.
Awww.....blesses for Mr LM.
I try to play it according to what's happening around me. Sometimes, being the only one drinking tea can come off as bad as too many libations.
Heya Lise. We have our party coming up soon too, actually, this weekend. :))
I usually just have one drink and juice/water throughout dinner/dance. I like to be tame at these sorts of company parties because there is still that level of "professionalism" that I feel I must exude.
If I was with more comfortable people, like friends/family, that's a different story.
Doesn't matter how much you drink, as long as you ensure that your 'superiors' drink more.
Midway through the party when everyone's tanked and you're not best to grab something and look like you're drinking it so you don't raise suspicion that you're a "party pooper".

............
I've fallen into this trap in the past.
As a party pooper Gophie ? I find this hard to believe. [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/a060.gif" border=0]
If you're having a mixed drink (ie rum & coke), make every 2nd drink straight pop. Noone can tell.
sweet tea in a small glass, no ice. They won't tell the difference.
This has turned out rather amusing. All these tips for sneaking around to NOT drink. HAHAHAHAAAAA
well i fooled people for years at house parties with sweet tea in a really small glass. It does work.
I suppose it works. If you want to drink tea at a party.
Having a couple cocktails does not equal a slovenly drunkard. (well.....necessarily) [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/musik/e030.gif" border=0]
To drink or not to drink. That is the question.

Hmmm, sweet tea may work at a house but I don't think it would work at a company party because usually, at the bar at most functions, they don't hand out tea bags and hot water. You don't often get tea or coffee until after your meal.
Thanks everyone for their contribution. The tea idea does sound neat. Maybe I should grab a bottle of tea and hide in my purse.
I don't think I'll be hanging around the party for long. Just put in enough appearance to let them know I'm there then get the hell outta there.
Is your hubby going with you? I bet you girls at the office have been talking about what to wear, huh? :))
Have fun at your Xmas party, Lise!
You can order iced tea from the bar instead of bringing your own. Mind you, I shouldn't talk...I'm unashamed to carry my BIG Nalgene water bottle with me everywhere I go. I've been known to drink from it in restaurants when the waiter is slow with water refills. *shrugs* Can't go thirsty!
