Title: Terror police 'shot' man in coma
Post by: TehBorken on Nov 15 07 12:42
You just can't make this stuff up. A couple of cops in Leeds tasered a man who was in a diabetic coma, because he was -get this- "unresponsive".

A man who had gone into a diabetic coma on a bus in Leeds was shot twice with a Taser gun by police who feared he may have been a security threat.

Nicholas Gaubert has described how the incident happened in July 2005, just a week before the fatal shooting of Brazilian man Jean Charles de Menezes.

Mr Gaubert, 34, said he was suffering severe post-traumatic stress as a result of the shooting.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating.

Mr Gaubert, who lives in Leeds, said he had now decided to speak out after the Crown Prosecution Service ruled no officers involved should be charged with any criminal offences.

The IPCC is still considering whether any disciplinary matters will be brought against the officers.

Very sad. I heard a panel discussion yesterday on the use of Tasers by police when a suspect is "actively resisting arrest".  Unfortunately, the Edmonton police tasered a man with limited mobility due to cerebral palsy, when he wasn't removing his clothing very quickly during a search.

I'm starting to think that the police are deceiving themselves into thinking that they can use this form of incapacitating 'suspects' without the fear of charges if they were to shoot them wrongfully, with a gun.

Could this be possible?  It seems like it's almost on some level with bullying tactics. [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/n020.gif" border=0]

Very much so Lil Me.

I most often support the police....I wouldn't want their job.  But the recent incident with the fellow from Poland has sickened me......and if I hear that guy on the news say one more time, that "the tape is only one small piece of evidence", I'm going to scream.  Ummm....HELLO....it's a pretty straight forward picture of a situation handled incredibly badly.  How on earth are they going to explain that away?
