I'm racking my brain on this one... the only one I can come up with is the original Magnificent Seven with Yul Bryner. That was a good one.
Anyone else got a favorite cowboy/western flick?
any clint eastwood pic.
I know Dances with Wolves doesn't count but I love that movie.
Blazing Saddles
Brokeback Mountain (//forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/12.gif)
disclaimer: i have not seen this movie. 'twas a joke. ;)
I saw the first 20 minutes and then fell asleep.
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
High Noon, the Sting, Magnificent Seven, Young Guns, Unforgiven, Legends of the Fall
I enjoy Western movies, but all the plots become one big blur in my mind.
The Good The Bad and The Ugly, and Once Upon A Time In The West.
Dances with wolves, Geronimo and The broken arrow for the progressive ones. Once upon a time in theWest and all the others western spaghetti for the "classic" type, ltough for me I must say mainly for the music of Eno Morriconne, the landscape of Spain, the "whistling" guns sounds and all the clichés you can imagine. lol
Well, y'know... most western flicks have the basic story line:
Bad dudes walk into town
Creates mayhem (shoots them chickens)
Who will stand up to them? Who? Who?
Why its that dang good ole deputy
(throws in a handful of minority cause it's the rite thang to do)
Big shot out
The good guys win
I've never watched Brokeback Mountain and I'm not gonna touch that with a ten foot pole. Two guys kissing isn't exactly my cuppa tea. (icky icky icky icky gross!)
That Wil Smith was good. Wassit call? Wild Wild West? Good soundtrack.
The classic of the classics (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif) Must be very hard to find. An animation parody of the western spahetti made by Bruno Bozetto.

High Noon, The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance
Too many movies have the same name. Just to clarify :

.
Geranimo and Broken Arrow are the same name ? Whatchoo talking about Michel.
Niet, there are other movies called Geronimo and (The) Broken Arrow.
Taslking about remakes, I wonder when they gonna stop redo the Invasion of the body snatchers. The Invasion with Nicole Kidman that will be shown in a few days is the 3rd remake of the same classic... The 2 first remakes were preety lame.
there was this movie based on the half breed character in the Carpetbaggers, starring Steve McQueen.
Lonesome Dove, movie made for TV was another favorite
Steve McQueen. Now he's quite the tough guy. I love him in that.... OMG... can't remember the stupid movie that he was famous for. Y'know, the prison thingee where he's on a bike? With that famous tune?
Invasion with Nicole Kidman was a remake? Say it isn't so! Oh wow. I was wondering about that... I thought it was just another story about invading aliens, didn't know it was a remake. What a horrible movie to begin with.
yep, 2 remakes already, all have the same name The invasion of the body snatchers, none equal the original. There's even a canadian one with Donald Sutherland, particularly bad, but teenagers love it at the time.
that would be The Great Escape.
Y'know, the prison thingee where he's on a bike? With that famous tune?
The great escape I assume ? It's a German prisonners camp, not a prison.
Hey yes, that's the name of the movie. The Great Escape. Good stuff.
Damn, now I have that tune in my head.........
good parody in The Simpsons, with Maggie trying to escape the kindergarden. Winth a shot at the Birds from Hitchkock too.

'smite' (j/k)
This is not a cowboy movie, ive never watched it nor will i.. it will never enter my premises either.
But if someone likes it.. that's their opinion and are entitled to it.
Forgot to include my vote!
I still think two of the best cowboy classics are:
John Wayne: The Alamo [A href="vny!://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053580/"]vny!://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053580/[/A]
Clint Eastwood: Good, Bad, and the Ugly [A href="vny!://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060196/"]vny!://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060196/[/A]
lol Russ... I know that it's not a Cowboy movie... :))) There were cowboys in it, wasn't there?
I don't think that I will ever watch that movie, not my kind of film.
Yes, The Alamo was good too. I especially liked the music.
The interesting thing about this thread is that it's shown me just how many cowboy movies are overlooked when people start compiling lists of the best movies over the years. It's an underated genre, that's for sure.
Another good one was Gunfight At The OK Corral.
