What foods did you hate as a child, that you still hate now.
Or the other way around.....what did you like as a child, that you can't stomach now.
For me it's brussels sprouts.....GAK ! Even the smell of them now will still make me yak.
yeah I never really liked eating those. They just didn't have any taste. But I ate everything otherwise.
I'm not a sweet tooth.
And another thought....
What food did you hate as a child that you like now ?
I've never been a fan of fu gua (bitter melon). It tastes like chewing an asprin.
(//vny!://www.cgsd.com/rlatham/OaklandChinatown/640Res/BitterMelon.JPG)
And I don't like frisee lettuce. I pick it out of the mixed salad greens every time.

Nor do I enjoy carraway seeds, poppy seeds, dried currents or onion bits on a bagel.
Hey P.C.- Your dislike is due to a genetic defence mechanism...

I used to like hamburgers and hot dogs but I can't stomach those much anymore. I only eat those things maybe 3 times a year.
That's funny Lil Me....I'm not big on onion bits on a bun either....ptewwwi.
I've never had that aspirin fruit.... by the sounds of it....I'll pass.
Interesting study. I knew there was a higher explanation. And apparently I'm not alone. There is a whole forum on this nasty piece of veg. I hate brussels sprouts
[A href="vny!://forums.gumtree.com/about39933.html&highlight"]vny!://forums.gumtree.com/about39933.html&highlight[/A]= (jk....sort of)
I love food. Most of it. I do agree with Lil Me on the bittergroud. Those taste really, really bad but my daddy, he loves em to bits. I dunno why.
I HATE, absolutely HATE Chinese medicine in whatever broth, concoction of whatever-off-the-shelf-grandma-swears-by-it medicine. GROSS. They would forced me to drink those vile stuff. I remmeber drinking a mug (with 1 hard-boiled egg) after getting my period. I used to dread getting my period.
Ginseng stuff. The root's supposed to be good for you but I can't say much for the taste.
Funny thing about brussel sprouts. I grew up on them and they're not that bad. We usually soak them in water then stir fry them with garlic.
Forgot to say 'olives' on pizza. Ick.
And capers. Why do they always put capers with smoked salmon, I will never understand.
Also some cheese. Like fungus... I mean, mould growing on them. Blue cheese? I understand it's a delicacy but man... one sniff and I'm gone.
lol Lise. Yes....some of those cheeses smell much worse than they taste.
I love capers. I used to make pickled nasturtiam buds....really yummy.
haha moldy cheese! My grandma would say its still good chop the mold off and then eat the non mold stuff. lol
I eat all.
As a child I hated turnip and parsnip. Some things don't change! I still don't like them. But I enjoy Brussels sprouts.
As a child I hated turnip and parsnip.....STILL DO. Although.....I remember once eating at this lovely little restaurant, and hubby had a little bite of a wedge shaped pate thing. He asked me to taste it, and tell him what it was, as he couldn't place it. I asked him to be sure it wasn't turnip, as it would make me yak and he assured me it wasn't turnip. So I tasted it, and it was exquisite. I had no idea what it was though. We asked the chef later, and he told us it was turnip.
So kek...you eat all.....but did you even eat all as a kid?
I used to dread being given porridge as a child. I can tolerate it now perhaps once or twice a year, but I'm still not fond of the stuff.
I really like fu gua, to the point that my chinese teacher (when I was younger) asked me what my favorite food was and I told her that I liked fu gua stir fried in sesame oil. LOL
I like anything and would eat anything.
I hated baked beans as a child, and I still hate them. On the hand I also used to hate red beans but now I like them.

Do you find this odd? Why would you discard perfectly good cheese because of a little surface mold?
I with Schade on this. Cheese is almost mold anyhow.
I used to hate tomatoes! Now I can't get enough.
I used to love Mac n' Cheese as a kid, now it makes me gag!

Well 49er,
- easy to prepare
- easy to digest
- lots of flavor
Sure, I'll try.
Gak. Too high in sodium.
Just dilute it, Lil Me or ADD poutine.
If it's unflavourful, I'll calmly spit it into a kleenex.
Add sugar or whipping cream?
As a child I hated brown bread, turnips, parsnips, sour cream, & brussel sprouts. Now I'll eat brown bread, sour cream & brussels sprouts but not the turnips & parsnips.(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Word_Negative/9.gif)
omg....you're a brussels sprout convert ???? How did this HAPPEN....how can this BE !!!!
I'm still..... palate-allergic (ok, I hate the taste) of some type of tofu. There's this dish, it's called (literally!) 'stinky tofu' and OMG, did it deserve its name. Yucko. My dad gave me some when I was little. He said it tastes really good and nevermind the smell. And I totally believed him. UGH.
I secret to eating brussel sprouts is gravy!

Stinky tofu is the best! Unfortunately only place that sell it here in the Bay Area, that I know of, is in SF Chinatown. Always get two take out orders when I am in the City and eat them up in my car on my way home........never bring it home because it will stink up the house.
What's in it that makes it stinky ?
I think its the fermentation or the addition of some sort of bacteria into the tofu. Good stinky tofu really stinks.......I could smell it two storefronts away from the restaurant that I buy it from
Can you describe it ? What smell would you relate it to ?
When I think about it, that's really strange...because our sense of taste is so directly connected to our sense of smell.
I don't think I've had stinky tofu, unless you count this stuff- fermented bean curd in a jar. We cook it on green beans.
(//vny!://www.stomp.com.sg/stfoodiesclub/poshnosh/68/fermentedbeancurd.JPG)
no, this is not. I cannot describe the smell. This stink is not associated with rotten food, meat, etc. It a nice clean stink....if there is such a thing. The stinky cubes are fried
Yes...there is such a thing as a clean stink IMO. Like the wonderful fragrance of rich soil.
Sour ? I can't handle anything that smells sour. Half of what makes something enjoyable to eat, is in it's aroma...I can't imagine being drawn to eat something that stinks. (let alone liking it)
I read a while back that stinky tofu is sold at the Vancouver Night Market but I suspect that there are various degrees of stink........because visitors would complain of the smell if the real stinky ones are prepared in the open
[a href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinky_tofu"]vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinky_tofu[/a]
I like hearing it from someone who's experienced it.
that's why I gave the link. I've got really nothing to add.
