I read this [A href="vny!://www.searchmagazines.com/news/news-21.html"]news story[/A] about the Roman Catholic church doctrine stating that the only true church is the Roman Catholic. All other churches for various reasons, such as not recognizing the pope, are not considered real churches. Strange that at a time when the world needs more harmony and unity in accepting different faiths the Catholic church would issue a doctrine which is sure to cause discord.
you just realized this? For centuries after the reformation catholic doctrine stated that if you weren't in the RC you were going to hell. Some still believe that.
Also if your a protestant the church church doesn't call you a denomination of christianity. They call you another 'religion' denoted somehow that you aren't christian because you aren't catholic.
Um...I'm not sure whether you were aware but many protestants don't consider Catholics to be Christians.
For instance, many believe the Catholic Churches use of icons is a form of idolatry. My ex-wife was a fundamentalist and they were taught that Catholics are a non-Christian cult-like entity. Her father was part of a different Christian religion and was intent on converting his entire family since he had been told by church elders that being Christian wasn't enough. Only members of THEIR church were gauranteed to see paradise.
In other words, this isn't a Catholic issue. It's a dogma issue that unfortunately is common to many major world religions =(
