Just curious how many people are going to weddings this Saturday.
I remember the news a couple YEARS back, saying that it was almost impossible to get a hall for weddings, as they were booked so far in advance as to snag this date. There were even stories of people who weren't even dating who had reserved halls with the hopes that their prince would show up in the meantime and be ready to walk down the aisles by 07,07,07.

That strikes me as a little...I dunno...creepy. Or something. "I think I'll reserve this hall just in case I decide to get married...". Hmmmm.
I did get an odd wedding invite recently...about 5 years ago a good friend of mine died. I was casual friends with his brother (I'll call him "Tony") and I made several attempts to keep a connection open with him as a friend. I invited Tony and his girlfriend/fiance ("Shelley") over to my place several times as well as suggesting maybe we do some other stuff (meet for dinner, etc). I just wanted to keep in touch with the brother of my friend. Well, they stood me up a couple of times and canceled at the very last minute on all the other occasions, so I finally said "screw it", I obviously wasn't someone Tony wanted to keep in touch with. And that was okay. I was surprised, but it wasn't any huge deal. I never heard from either of them again. Not a phone call, not an email, nothing.
Five years later I get a call from him...
Him: "Hi, it's Tony."
Me (without thinking): "What do you want?" (I swear, it just came out like that.)
Him: "Ummm, well, uh, me and Shelley are getting married and we want you to come to our wedding."
Me: "[span style="font-weight: bold; background-color: rgb(128, 255, 0);"]WTF!?[/span]"
I mean, here's this guy who turned down repeated attempts to stay in touch and stood me up a couple of times, pointedly ignored me for five years (!!), and now he wants me to come to his wedding? WHY??? What for? Who is this guy??
Then he tells me that for the last 5 years he and Shelley have been living in a small town a few miles from me. You can walk from here to there. We've undoubtably driven by each other's place 1,000 times. It wasn't like it was tough to reach me- I have 2 phone numbers, 5 email addresses, and I've lived in the same place for the last ten years. But he never so much as called once, not even to say "Hey, how's it going?" Now he wants to come to his wedding?
So, needless to say, I was kinda surprised. Was he that hard up for guests so he invited me? I don't even know him anymore. Why the hell would I want to go to his wedding?
So, the rest of the conversation went something like this:
Me: "Oh, that's nice."
Him: "So, would you like to come?"
Me: "No, I'm busy that day."
Him: "But I haven't told you what day it is."
Me: "It doesn't matter. Whatever day it is, I'm busy."
Sorry doooood, ya ignore me and blow me off for five years while you're living around the corner from me, don't be so *#$! surprised if I don't care what the hell you're doing now. Sheesh.
Cant say I have PC.. dont know of any on that day.. but you have me curious now.
Sorry to hear that TB.. I dont know what I would say in that instance. IT would strike me a little odd like you say if he lives so close and didnt talk to you for five years. It could have been an invitation b/c you were his brothers friend and he is getting married.. a day for family, maybe a hatchet burying thing? I dont know.. I wasnt in your shoes for this and like I said I dont know what I would do.
You have FIVE email addresses? I get confused with teh two that I have. Wait.. I have a Gmail account too, three.
My mom-in-law is getting married on that day. She's having a backyard wedding with the Commissioner.
I'm pretty sure that it'll be busy on 08-08-08! Chinese lucky number! :)
Weddings are sooooo over-rated anyways. It doesn't matter what date you choose, the day you marry is the day you'll always remember, not the date. Sheesh.
Yeah, 2008 is the year Chinese ppl will go crazy. Weddings, business deals, birthings (!!!!!) and whatever especially on 08/08/08. You name it, it'll happen with the Chinese. That's why they're so stoked about the Olympics.
Sorry to hear about your situation there, TB. Even if I don't hear from a friend, I'd still go to his or her wedding. It's their day... I mean, I enjoy weddings. I love seeing ppl get hitched. I guess it's the girly girl in me. Plus FREE FOOD! Did I mention that? (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)

Wow, that's insane. Sounds like something Sportsdude would be doing. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/12.gif)
One of my best gf's is getting hitched this Saturday...the Stagette's tonight...yikes!!
They are doing a cruise wedding....hope the water is calm.
I agree with ya Lise. Weddings are so overrated. If I had it my way, I'd get married down in Maui with the two of us and then come back for an after party with all the friends and family.
*sigh*
My co-worker is attending a wedding this Sat too.
It should be fun...something I've never experienced before...plus the weather is supposed to be nice!
I love weddings. The only thing I DON'T like about weddings is when people feel the need to go into debt (to impress people ???) We got married at our home....in our yard which is were my heart is and my friends have gathered many times. We did everything ourselves (with a little help from our friends) and the only thing we really hired out for was a good bartender....lol
TB....I think I would have reacted the same way you did, about someone who couldn't be bothered with me for 5 years, specifically because it was you that made the effort to keep the connection alive.
What's the significance of 07 (in Cantonese?)
All these numerology or numbers sounds... it is nuts!
Here are things that I learnt: about the numbers and the sounds in Cantonese
3 ~ alive
8 ~ lucky
9 ~ forever
4 ~ death

rotfl.
I can see the speed dating conversation now. "I need to marry someone now, because when I was drunk I set up a wedding date at this huge hall in a year."
It's easier if you just wore a sign.

I dunno I'd equate it to the women at those speed dating events that say their biological clock is ticking.
Your clock is also ticking too, SD. Didn't you say that you plan for a g/f by December 07?
How can anyone plan something like that....I couldn't!
He can not have a serious GF now, he's leaving the Midwest for Van island. Enjoy life young boy !
lol i forgot about that one. ;)
maybe just a date or something. Who knows, much like what happened with me this morning by getting struck by lightening, these sort of things sorta come out of the sky out of nowhere.
See, I found my hunny by accident....I just tripped and landed on his (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/10.gif) maybe I won't go there!
LOL.....
Isis, more details please.

LOL, guys certainly need that EXTRA attention!
