Well? What are they???
Maple Syrup/Maple Candy
Poutine
Salmon
VQA Wines
(My cousins in the US swear that you can't buy canned salmon there, but 49er says you can!)
I buy canned salmon all the time.
Good. I'll stop lugging cases of canned salmon to Cali!
what are VQA wines?
you forgot the beaver tail.

Nanaimo bars. B.C.
Fiddlehead ferns. N.B.
Lobster. P.E.I.
Salt cod. Nfld.
Where can you buy salt cod in Van? I've gotta try it one of these days.
I've had fiddleheads before (frozen in a bag from McCain)
I think of seafood when I think of Canadian cusine.
(Kitten, we just had some fiddleheads the other night. There is such a short window for those, that if you like them, you better grab some soon)
Sorry but I just don't know. I think I heard of a place in New Westminster that specialized in Atlantic foods, but I don't know the name or even if they are still open.
oh so that's where I get BC wine. thanks! lil me
smoked meat sandwiches from Montreal
Butter tarts
bakeapple pie or cloudberry pie
The Caesar drink
Donairs
Montreal Hot Dog
I saw a pallet full of canned salmon at Costco last weekend.
Sure I like fiddleheads, P.C. We used to have them when they came out on the farm. They are SO good! A little touch of butter and they are perfect.
cloudberry?
What about Alberta Beef?
[a href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloudberry"]vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloudberry[/a]
Saskatoons (berries)
Huckleberries and Chantrelles (not together of course)
Deer or moose meat (if you can find it anywhere!)
hmmm wild game they don't sell that at the grocery store.
No, they sell farmed versions of the same animal. If you want wild game, you need to get it from a hunter. They don't sell it in stores.
You can get farm raised deer, elk or bison. I have not heard of farm raised moose.
Though perogies are not "Canadian", you can not go anywhere in AB, SK, MB (and perhaps other provinces) and not find perogies on the menu.
Pizza!
although not really a 'Canadian' food, this Canadian loves it more than any other food.
Beaver.
Oh er......
Viva la maple syrup.
You often hear that Canada doesn't have that specific 'Canadian Food'......like hot dogs and apple pie is for the US, it has been said that we don't have that. When you look at all the things mentioned here, I think that what it shows, is a menu as diverse as its people.
Many of these favourites are all 'borrowed' from the people that have come from everywhere and have become OUR stamp, in a way.
I saw a little blurb on the news, that sushi will take its place alongside the hot dog at the ballparks.
I like hotdogs, burgers, fries, pizza, pancakes with maple syrup...
in my mind, these make me feel "canadian"
Pâté chinois (shepherd pie)
The pizza and the steak submarines made by the Canadian-Greeks in Montréal huhum...
Tourtiere every Christmas eve.
Is that French for "torture," Shadey? ;)
PL is perv !
It's a meat pie made originally with a bird called tourtre, unfortunately this bird has been killed to extinction quite rapidly. Today the meat used is pork and beef mixed.
I knew that it was a tart/pie, Michel. I think that you misunderstood my original comment. When I said "torture" I was thinking about my experience with them at I personally didn't enjoy these little meat pies...
hehe ok, this meal is indeed a plot to destroy the hottie factor in any slim woman, I agree with you. Stay away from the tourtiere !
ha ha! i s'pose. but at 'xmas, you kinda have to put your "figure" aside because there are just tons of good food!
Pea Soup is always good on a cold day.
[SPAN class=termheader1]Onion soup au gratin, is it typically canadian ? I don't know but it's goooooood, especially in winter. Miam miam.[/SPAN]
