Title: Call the Fashion Police
Post by: Lil Me on Apr 18 07 09:46
What's the worst fashion problem you've fallen victim to?

Mine would be stirrup pants, oversized sweater, shirt collar turned up, long strands of fake pearls and white Reebok high tops.  With "big bar hair".

Low ride pants....ugh.  I seem to be constantly hiking them up.  I hate anything that I have to adjust, tug on, pull, fuss with or pull out of my crack.

Hey Lil Me,

Those stir up pants with the sweater is in now.  ;)

Fashion faux pas for me were these ugly looking sweaters with prints on them and tacky looking sweats with big ugly red-black printed dorky looking glasses...... that was when I was in elementary school.  I started to dress better in senior high school.

Oh, I also remember owning a pair of purple jeans.  OMG UGLY!

LOL, glad to know that I wasn't alone. :)))  Oh, how I hated these plastic HUGE frames.  YUCK!  But, I had no choice and didn't care about my looks at that time.

How have you changed now, Lil Me or anyone else?

Do you care more about your appearance or looks or the way you dress?

For me, because I work at an office, I have to dress accordingly.  I do like to stay somewhat close to what is out there in terms of fashion, but I stick to my own comforatble clothes.  I wouldn't go out to work in something that didn't pair well.  I like to have my jewelry as well.  The way I see it is, I enjoy my body and I've got to dress it the way it suits my body.

I think that I've been watching way too many episodes of "What Not To Wear." LOL.

I don't think that guys are into fashion too much.  My guy is the same. He wears whatever is comfortable and clean. :)

Speaking of fashion, Army and Navy has their annual mega shoe sale and I can't believe how women would actually line up and be in the crowds buying those shoes.  I dislike crowds like that!

I do the smell test. Theres different stages you know...

Army and Navy? I thought they went bankrupt? Hmm.. I need to get some stuff from there as Im going to attempt smoking my own jerky soon.

LOL, I know all about the smell test.  He recently did 6 loads of laundry and guess what?  He has 2 more to go for ALL of his clothes!  It sucks not to have insuite laundry cuz I would make sure that laundry is done.

pl- you are totally going to laugh at this- I CHOSE the big red glasses.  I liked them :)

The "sniff test" is only valid if your nostrils are in good working order.  Mr LM's clearly aren't, because he's immune to the smells of sweat, fart, diesel and rocks.  After 10+ years, we're fairly blunt with each other in this department.

One of the pitfalls of working from home is that my wardrobe has taken a beating.  I try to look decent if I'm going "out" somewhere, but the rest of the time it's cutoffs and shortalls- or PJ pants/ Costco yoga pants in the winter.  I went to high school during the Grunge era, and I don't think I ever grew out of it.  I'm wearing a plaid lumberjack vest today!

Guys get off pretty easy.  Mr. P.C. was jeans and sweatshirt guy at his last job of many years.  Now he's shirt and tie guy.  He could care less about fashion. When he goes shopping for clothes, he brings me.....then he holds something up and says...."Do I like this?"

If I was at home, I would be lounging around in comfy clothes like yourself, Lil Me. :))  as soon as I get home from work, I slip into something more comfy..sweats and tees.. Why were bras invented?  Some of them are so darn uncomfy!

That's me too. I need a new wardrobe. I can't believe I've let myself go.... I guess when you have two kids, it's so hard to think what to dress up. I try to be presentable but I've been known to go to the shops in my track suit pants. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)

My husband dresses better than me. I guess it's part of his charm of being a metrosexual and proud of it.

Um, I dont get why this is a problem.

I went downtown one time into a higher end clothes store to pick up a bday present for a friend. After wandering around in there for 10 minutes in a jackshirt and dirty blue jeans I started to notice people staring and getting out of my way. LOL!

I wouldn't worry about what you're wearing too much eiher Lise.  I often go out, during the weekends with no make up (not that I wear too much), in sweats, in a tee and my hair is totally messy.  It's comfortable.  Nobody stares or think it's weird.  I come home from rowing practices all wet, in grey sweats wearing pink plastic wet shoes.

My b/f always tells me  "who cares what others think"  "You're comfortable in your clothes."  "Who do you have to impress anyways?"    He's a wise guy. ;)

I think your guy is very wise, pl.  That's very good advice.

According to Mr LM, guys generally prefer the "natural look" and that women do the hair/makeup/clothing to impress other women.  That's his opinion, and I'm not entirely convinced it's true.

I go shopping in my sweats and PJ pants (clean ones!) all the time.  Funny thing is, I always get ID'd at the liquor store when I'm dressed like that.  The cashier looks at my DL and laughs.  I never got carded when I was 14, but I do now.  Strange.

LOL, that's hilarious!  I guess the lesson here is "dress comfortably with little to no makeup and look young at the same time!"  :)))

Yeah, my guy tells me that guys like girls looking all natural with no makeup and hair pulled back.  Yep, I think that many girls dress up to impress other girls and get other guys attention.  If I was single, I'd dress up to get attention from other guys, but this isn't the case.  ;)  My guy prefers me naked.  LOL

Actually, I think we all prefer you naked too, purelife. ROTFL about the pants! Nice to know I'm not the only one.

Ever get the feeling after watching a show like "What Not to Wear" or "Style by Jury" that your wardrobe is sneering at you? *sssshhing the cupboard now*

I like watching people who are stuck in an earlier decade.
My grandma's have that 1940's/1950's hair cut.

My grandpa wore stuff from the 70's.

Know anybody in your family stuck in a decade?

He's right. Im more attracted to a girl natural looking. Not looking like a racoon. I mean, they are pretty as well.. but I go more for the girls looking 'eau naturale'

same here and tells me a lot about the girls self confidence.  I've always seen make up as trying to be something you're not.  Just be yourself and not ashamed.

 This from Urban Dictionary
