I saw a City of Seattle Police car driving around downtown Vancouver today. They\'re lucky  no one was ready with fruit at the time.

You mean there was the potential for a drive by fruiting ????

From the AP:
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said the U.S. ambassador was "provoking the Venezuelan people" and threatened Sunday to expel the American diplomat, whose convoy was chased by pro-government protesters on motorcycles.  [p style="font-weight: bold;"]Chavez condemned the crowd of protesters for pelting U.S. Ambassador William Brownfield's car with eggs and
tomatoes, saying his government "rejects any kind of aggression."[/p]  But he suggested Brownfield, who was returning from a visit to a ballpark in Caracas' poor Coche neighborhood, a Chavez stronghold, sought a confrontation by failing to advise authorities adequately of his travel plans and venturing into a place where his presence was unwelcome.[/p]

What do Americans know about Canada? See below the kind of questions they ask and the kind of answer they deserve:

Q:Will I be able to see Polar Bears in the street? (USA )
A: Depends on how much you've been drinking.

Q:Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Canada ? (USA )
A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe . Ca-na-da
is that big country to your North...oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is
every Tuesday night in Calgary . Come naked.

Q: Which direction is North in Canada ? (USA )
A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees Contact us when you get here and
we'll send the rest of the directions.

Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA )
A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which
is...oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in
Vancouver and in Calgary , straight after the hippo races. Come naked.

Q: Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada ? (USA )
A: Only at Thanksgiving.

Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Canada , but I forget its
name. It's a kind of big horse with horns. (USA )
A: It's called a Moose. They are tall and very violent. They roam the city
streets eating the brains of anyone walking close to them. Spraying yourself
with human urine before you go out walking will scare them off.

Q: Will I be able to speak English most places I go? (USA )
A: Yes, but you will have to learn it first.

Hehehehehehe!

I have to say in defense of those 'off beat' notions, that Canadians have grown up with American content entertainment.   That has not been the case in reverse. (lucky them)  Sometimes I wonder if I know more about American politics, history etc than my own.

[br style="font-weight: normal;"][span style="font-weight: normal;"]Yeah most of those channels are the junk channels.  I grew up on PBS educational shows.  Didn't watch the 'networks' until about grade 6.  Favourite show: Where in the world is carmen San Diego. It was a world geography show.  I became smarter because of it.[/span]

Don't get me wrong, I watch TV too. Just trying to keep it in small doses.
Title: Re: Canadians
Post by: Sportsdude on Mar 29 07 10:46
yeah I watch tv but Its not really 'watching'.  For example I always have the news on all day during the day, but I rarely watch it, just listening to it.  The only 'primetime' shows I watch are Prison Break, 24 and Smallville.

Other then that I really don't watch a lot of tv, even though it's on 24/7.

My stereo is on 90% of the time.

I do turn on the news sometimes.

I want to know when the bombs start dropping, cause I think I will screw going to work that day.
