The CBC and National Hockey League announced a new television agreement Monoday that will keep Hockey Night In Canada on the air through the 2013-14 season.[/p] The six-year contract extension begins at the conclusion of the current deal in 2007-08 and is worth about $100-million a year, according to sources.[/p] The CBC give up some of its existing TV rights in the next deal.[/p] Right now, the network owns all playoff series involving Canadian teams. In the new contract, it will have first rights to the first two playoff rounds. A third series involving a Canadian team would go to TSN, which has yet to complete its contract negotiation with the league.[/p]In the regular season, the CBC will give up rights to some games involving the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Canadian team that produces the largest audiences.

It sounds like if a Canadian NHL team makes it to the Stanley Cup finals we'd be watching it on TSN, or am I wrong?  Just another way for cable companies to hold us hostage.  (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/1.gif)

I guess CBC realized "hey, nobody watches anything on our network but HNIC, and we need $$$".

I am glad, since I don't have cable, I only see TSN at friends houses, or pubs.
