Title: Nancy Drew the Movie
Post by: Lise on Mar 09 07 10:14
Great for the teens. I used to read tons of Nancy Drew. Am so glad that this movie is coming out and I hope it'll teach more kids to read more books about this sleuth detective.

Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller are said to be signed up as Frank and Joe Hardy in the tentatively titled movie "The Hardy Men" due to start shooting this fall (no idea who plays whom).  The story centers on the famed Hardy Boys detectives, now twenty years older. They haven't spoken to each other in years but are forced to work together to solve one last case.  Sort of an Ethan Hunt meets Greg Focker comedy/mystery.

Too bad Tommy Boy and Zoolander; Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson ARE and ALWAYS will be the Hardy Boys.

So kewl.  I always enjoy finding how how the characters turned out as adults.  Vince Vaughn should be cast as Chet Morton and Ralph Macchio as Tony Prito.

Back to the original topic, I think a Nancy Drew movie would be awesome.  Girls need a detective role model (besides Kim Possible) and hopefully interest in the movie will keep kids reading!

Hardy Boys still beat out Nancy Drew. I read em both. Bah!

Tom Cruise shouldnt be allowed small pets or kids either in my opinion.

Pamela Sue Martin was Nancy Drew, but her show was very short-lived compared to the Hardy Boys.  In the first season it was one wee Hardy Boys the next week Nancy Drew.  In the second season, Nancy teamed up with Frank and Joe, and Pamela Sue didn't like that; she thought Nancy Drew should have her own show.  You know in the first HB/ND books that didn't happen, but later books did (the authors got the idea from the tv show) .  She was replaced by Janet Johnson.  The last season was just the Hardy Boys.

Btw, if you all are going down memory lane, Amazon and Chapters have the DVDs on their web-sites.   I'll be looking for the ND movie when it comes out in June, but I expect like the planned-for Dallas movie, it won't be the same as the tv show.

I remember looking up who wrote Nancy Drew and was astounded to discover that it was several authors using the same pen-name, thus explaining why the same author -- Carolyn Keene -- could write some books that were of professional caliber and other books that were downright amateurish and shoddy.

Really adam? Now thats interesting. I never knew that.

I have a few sets of hardy boys... including the originals, then second printing (blue covered books). I still buy them if I see them at flea markets.

I bought a bunch of nancy drews as well just becuase and there was some subtle writing differences. When I saw older books like The bobsey twins as well as the sugar creek gang and such I would buy them.
