Never been to Tofino but I've heard its awesome.
Yeah, I'm thinking of heading there sometime this year. Should be great. White sandy beach, no people..... peace and quiet. It will be a nice break.
ah beaches and sea breeze. ah
Hi Lise....Tofino is pretty.....nice drive TO there also.
A good place to stay is the Crystal Cove Beach resort or the Wickininish Inn (however the Wickininish if VERY expensive).

This pic reminds me of this huge beach in Cape Cod I went to. Except the Cape Cod beach was full of shells ouch! ouch!
Thanks for the links, SD and PC. The Inn looks wonderful. Just my cup of tea.
oh wow P.C. that crystal place reminds me of when my cousins got married. We all stayed at a resort like that. awesome.
wow I think I found a future vacation spot for my parents.
Here is a link to the Wickininish....check out the spa package.....very luxurious.
.....and did I say EXPENSIVE

I also highly recommend tofino. I try to make it there everytime I buzz through port alberni on my way through the island. Uclulet (how the hell do you spell that) is also very nice.. I looked into getting a place there.
This Wikky is a nice place to stay.. The beaches are awesome. You can walk from one end to teh other quite a few times. Its a very good spot to play your hand at surfing, or if you are like me and would fall all the time.. try your hand at skimboarding in teh shallow pools on the beach, if you can skim and stay up then try surfing.
Go!
Are you going with kiddies or without?
Here's a family-friendly resort:

We stayed there 5 years ago. Unfortunately, everywhere in Tofino is expensive. Even the camping is on the expensive side- but it's a great place.
Oh- hang on, just remembered there's a backpacking hostel in Tofino- so you can sleep on a budget and save your $$$ for surfing and fun.

good luck on the hostel. its booked up soooo fast.

I have been there a lot. I am not sure what time of year would be good? But I think it is pretty hard there to get away from no people, etc. Its become a pretty busy tourist spot. Still, just so nice to get the heck out of the city!
Go in January during the peak surf season. Not many tourists, just surfers.
Wick Inn is nice. There are also some nice B&Bs there.
I grew up on Van Island and the west coast of the Island is a strange land indeed, I've sailed and kayaked through parts of it and it can be hit or miss with the weather, a big storm in a nice cozy cabin can be perfect...in a tent... not so enchanting, it has seen a tremendous amount of development in the last decade but fortunately the Pacific Rim is a big park, beachcombing, surfing ect but not too many sunny days. Tofino is a bit more of a hippy haven than Uculet and there are some amazing hot springs close to Tofino, accessable by boat with camping right next to the pools, great rain forrest walks, wildlife...its still relatively unspoiled but somewhat more busy.
Hey thanks for all the insights.
Wow. Tofino is expensive!! Yikes but I'm going to go for a night there, just to see what it's like. I've never been there but my hubby has and he says it's pretty peaceful. Mind you, he hasn't been back in eons so things might change.
I like the B&B option with the theme rooms. Might be something to look into though I'm not sure if the owners would enjoy having a loud baby on board.
My parents on their honeymoon back '80 went to a place like Tofino. Mackinaw Island they went to.

The best thing to do is after you look up ones that look interesting, give them a call to ask about kids. A lot have seperate enough spaces, kids are more than welcome. Some, not so much.
then the best Lise would be that cabin resort place. You get like your own little cabin.
That's why I like Crystal Cove....very family oriented. Pets too. There are individual cottages plus there are some 'condo' type suites. There are 'central hot-tubs, that you can lounge in, in the evening that are right outside your suite.....within ear shot and a leap of the tub.
