Meatloaf - I would do anything for you
Bonnie Tyler - I need a hero
Dang. My husband's 80s music is rubbing off me.....
Listening to the blues Channel.....413 on digital TV. THE best music when you've got company, and you just want some background music that doesn't dominate the evening. Works for me too when everybody's gone home.

I agree the music channels on the digital box are the best.. thats actually a good idea when people come over miss PC.. I think Im going to use that this friday.. when I have poeple over fer a hot pot.
Im not listening to anything right now.. but earlier when we were organizing, was listening to some snow patrol, linkin park, and nazareth.
Right now I'm listening to the breathing of two Poles who are in the room with me but apparently have nothing to say.
I'm listening to a Seattle radio. The Movin 92.5. I also like Star 101.5 or something. If anyone knows of one that has a mixture of everything including Alternative/Rock, please let me know. :)
I've got the 25 most played on my itunes on right now so that would be:
Coldplay, U2, The Verve, Depeche Mode, Arcade Fire, Muse, Broken Social Scene, Travis, Franz Ferdinand, The Postal Service, The Stills, The Good the Bad and The Queen, New Order, Gordon Lightfoot, Stars, Snow Patrol.
lol thats a lot of bands.
I know the alt rock station in Seattle, I'll find it for you.
Best bets if you want a bit of everything would be the University of Washington college radio station 90.3 FM.
They play: "Where The Music Matters". UW student run radio. Live and archived streaming music. An innovative, eclectic mix of alternative rock, hip hop, electronic, roots & blues, world & reggae, jazz, and more.

[a href="vny!://www.kexp.org/home.asp?noflash=true"]vny!://www.kexp.org/home.asp?noflash=true[/a]
and it would be commerical free.

Hmmm, I'll try it for a while to see if I like it. I don't recognize the song it's playing right now, but hopefully, have songs that I know. Thanks. And, I hope that it doesn't "skip" like other radio stations can.
its a college radio station they'll play stuff thats 'cutting edge' or underground and then in a couple months you'll be like 'yeah I heard of that song before' when it pops up on the commerical radio stations
If you want more mainstream stuff on the rock/alt end there is 107.7 the end. Right now though, adam corolla's show is on until the top of the hour.

Well you know my generation Michel, we can't come up with anything orginal.
Something about girls singing in french, best language in the world to sing..
ah the big thing about the song is the dancing involved. For the life in me I don't know how you can do that in a club without knocking 20 people over.
Phish, Ministry, In Flames, Supergrass.

Deep Purple - Burn
Bullet for My Valentine - Tears Don't Fall
Pantera - Live 101
Arrested Development - Tennessee
Ben Harper - New song on Sirius radio???
Jack Johnson (not sure the song name, but I think it is about smoking a J and surfing or smething??) Hard to tell what his lyrics are about sometimes.
I am a Sirius subscriber. Vancouver radio drove me berserk....and I am too lazy to upload songs, create playslists, etc. Sirius works for me.

Mariah who?? Just kidding. Can't believe she's still around. She's the most annoying singer I know apart from Alicia Keys and that other Jackson.
mariah carey: "oh look at me guys I can hit this high note as I raise my hand, ohhh I'm sooo good, you suck hehehe and I rule"
Does she still call herself Mimi? It sounds like a name Paris would call her chiwawaawwhahaa
annoying or not, Mariah can sure sing. (unlike Brit)
I think Alicia Keys has wonderful talent and can really sing. I've heard some of her live concerts on youtube and boy oh boy is she better than her CD.
Agreed LM. Half the time I can't understand her high-noted songs but she's got a fabulous voice.
I guess we have our opinions.
Her CD cover was also air brushed. So much so that it made the picture look awkward.
oh god please not celine. She's the curse of canada.
Her song "My Heart Will Go On" is absolutely beautiful...
What's wrong with Celine? I think she's very talented.
Its Celine, because of her, everyone makes fun of canadians outside of canada. Plus her songs seem to follow me where ever I go. haunting lol
listening to the kooks new album, doesn't come out for another month. I like it.

No argumanet here. I hate Bubblegum pop in any form. But I was about to ask Janet who? You think in this day and age, SNL could do a little better?
I knew a security guard who guarded GM Place (frisking people) when Celine was here for a concert.
He was standing right beside her and noticed how skinny she was. I don't think he liked her too.

Helmet - Unsung!
Classic 90s! 90s music lives forever!
You are a young pup, Van. You're probably about the same age as purelife and Russ.
Not as young as sports. But I like my age..sorry, LOVE my age and age group.
I love older rock too. Maybe it is because I have older siblings?
I have all the Eagles, Beatles, Stones, Deep Purple, Floyd, Zepp, Boston, Sabbath, old Aerosmith (70s Aerosmith) AC/DC (Bon style).
But 90s rules my ears. The list would go on too long if I mentioned my favs. I love 90s music. 80s, not as much, but there are a few bands that were decent.
U2's Three Gospels according to Rolling Stone
Joshua Tree
Achtung Baby
All That You Can Leave Behind
80's U2 is classic rock ish, Bono the pious
90's Mid life crisis U2, lots of machines, very Euro, Bono the dirty rocker who plays at night clubs
00's Old Age U2, grandpa Bono
U2 is sweet. The only album that turned me off was Pop. But, hey! Let them experience what they need to do.
I also love the 00s music. I didn't give it much credit at first with the onslaught of Creed, Nickelwhatever, 3 *Yaaawn* Doors Down, etc. But it has improved. Now there are a lot of bands that impress the sh*t out of me. Especially Canada's indie scene. Coast to coast! Of course bands from around the globe are kicking ass and taking names too.
Its Celine, because of her, everyone makes fun of canadians outside of canada. Plus her songs seem to follow me where ever I go. haunting lol
listening to the kooks new album, doesn't come out for another month. I like it.
Riiiight. That's why Caesars Palace Colosseum built a 4,100-seat arena, specially for her show and cost $95 million to build. That's why she played five-years of almost consistently sold out shows, a $400+ million engagement which saw Dion performing a 717 times. That's why her agreement to a 3 year contract kept her on stage for 5 years.
I'm not the biggest Celine fan in spite of the fact that I think she is not only talented, but a great entertainer.....but come on.....everyone makes fun of Canadians because of Celine ?????? Give your head a shake. Celine is and always has been more popular in the States than she ever was in Canada. Mind you....now her popularity is worldwide. I wonder if the whole world is making fun of Canada just because of Celine.

Celine maybe more popular in the states, but they'll still use her as a cultural joke, they have since the titanic.
Me: i'm moving to Canada
anybody: "oh really, so does that mean you'll start listening to Celine Dion albums?"
Me: why? you're an idiot
anybody: "Because she's all Canadians listen to you know, she's the most famous person ever to come out of Canada! You know that backward country where they eat whale blubber and they live in igloos and prance around in red suits on a horse"
Me: "get out of your small little world every now and again" *walks home*
i get this every time I go back. Except its now "how can it be so warm up there, you're further north then us, that's not possible!"
or the new one is "so you're actually going to stay up there? You aren't going to ditch your american citizenship are you?"
I always say "maybe" and everyone looks like they've seen a ghost.
Its Celine, because of her, everyone makes fun of canadians outside of canada. Plus her songs seem to follow me where ever I go.
anybody: "Because she's all Canadians listen to you know, she's the most famous person ever to come out of Canada! You know that backward country where they eat whale blubber and they live in igloos and prance around in red suits on a horse"
Ohhhhh, I see. Surely you're not implying that Americans are imbeciles? So when you say 'everybody/anybody'... you really mean a small percentage of idiots. I can't even imagine that comment reflects the general perception of Canada by Americans. Do you really think coming to any form of conclusion (let alone quoting them) should be based on the uneducated rantings of a moron?

no, but i seem to run into them all, I wish I didn't. Even in the Pacific Northwest, when I was in Seattle, the student media there had a show on the television station just making fun of Canadians. I asked why all the hate for the Canadians, they couldn't give an answer.
I keep forgetting to change to american spelling when I'm writing emails and such to some people back home, I get flamed for disrespecting my roots. I always reply "what roots?" but that doesn't seem to go well with them. lol
my childhood friend who's been my friend since I was 5, thinks I hate america and what not. (I don't believe in the America that we were taught to believe in and fight for as kids, for example the "American Dream" that causes millions to come here every year, is a sham. The idea that you can make something of yourself only in America, isn't true. Then the idea that America is the greatest country in human history, (disagree) American ideals are based off of the French, America just wants to take credit for coming up with Liberty and Freedom and so on) Everyone seems to think that because I left (turning my back on America, since it gave me everything), means now then hate everyone. gosh so much hate going around. yeesh.
Which is completely false. I don't hate America. In fact I miss it, I've always felt that I was pushed. I've always respected Canada and I wanted to live in another country. 4 places in the U.S. I could live in Seattle, SF, Portland. I got tired of people critizing me for saying I was too European in thinking. It was constant, everyday saying "be American." no I don't want to conform.
It's hard to explain what goes on. Best example in Canada would be a diehard French family's only son going off and marrying an "anglo" girl.

Not very often. I had enough reasons to be sad in my life without music doing it to me. Usually I put on music after my mood is already in place.
Tool doesn't depress me. Tool is art in its finest form!
Going to the grocery store and seeing Hollywood gossip mags everywhere depresses me! Seeing so many people base their lives around the stupid Canucks depresses me. Knowing a teen that has a father she never met, and a mother that is a meth head depressses me.

It is also fondly known as the "Hub, Tub, and Pub City" because of its large population of drunk dancing girls, association with the [A title="Bathtub racing" href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_racing"]bathtub racing[/A] and the numerous "watering holes" in Old Nanaimo. See ? I toll ya.
Right now I'm listening to Lam Saravane Dub, Laotian hill tribe music dub-ified by Jah Wobble. I'll be compiling a string of similar tracks onto a disc tentatively titled "Music for Beer Parlor Parking lots."
Warning: do not actually play Lam Saravane Dub in a beer parlor parking lot, especially in a convertible!
There's a sample here:

And don't play it in Nanaimo either... unless you want drunk naked girls dancing on your hood.

I think if you listen closely to the "Guess who is in town?" Johnny Depp thread, you will hear a humming sound there too, although it is not the sound of a humming computer...
(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/12.gif)
The only time I saw Johnny Depp was on some series he was doing in town. I was working as an extra.
21 Jump Street?
That's it! I had forgotten. I worked quite a few movies, and since I didn't know what they were about they sort of blended into the background.
OMG Kitten. You never told me. Can I have your autograph ? (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif) (did any part of your person actually make any form of contact with Johnny's person...at any time) ?????????
Seems to me I brushed his arm when I passed him in the soup line. It was supposed to be in a relief kitchen for the down and out. At the time I thought he was another extra, until one of the crew enlightened me. I was supposed to be one of the servers.

This is the most confusing thread ever.......I thought we were in the Johnny Depp thread.
I think I may slide by the Ebony Lounge, after I check out the Best Buys to see if there is anything good at Costco. I heard they have some BMX's and snow boards on sale. I have to eat my Hot-Cross Bun first....OH....and by the way...Hello Kitten. Anybody know where my Shoes are ? Maybe I'll just take some Pictures Only.

I realllly like this song too. It's really catchy. I heard that she could possibly be the next Whitney Houston. She was the winner of Britain Idol? And Simon Cowell is her record producer or something. I'm so out of the loop about these things. I havne't seen her pic yet though, but her voice is more imporant. ;)

I had a glimpse of it and heard the song. I rather like the song. I'll have to fully watch it at home cuz at work... "they're" watching!
I don't think she is ugly now.
I just remember seeing a video back in the day when I was a bit younger and I thought she was pretty hot then. Of course you can just put Soundgarden on the stereo and mute the TV just to look at her...lol.

ok, I think I am losing my mind. I could have sworn I seen MGMT in the Pemberton line up...today I never seen them? I am not going anyways. I will be Stateside right about then.
MGMT sort of blew up after Pemberton was announced.
according to their website they were in Toronto on the 15th and they don't come back to Canada until Sept 6 in Toronto. They were in Seattle on the 21 and Portland on the 22, 24th they were in SF and now they play Coachella tomorrow. (wow its already that time of year, lol)
I can't make up my mind about Coachella, I don't believe the hype. Its too early in the year and its geared towards socal folks and that's it mainly. I still think Austin's festival is better, but that's me.
I would go to Cochella if I lived within a couple hours, wouldn't drive 2 days for it.
What is the Austin festival? I picture country music when I think of Texas. But then again, Pantera came from there.
Austin City Limits
Austin is not your typical Texas place. Its liberal and the city council is made up of environmentalists and liberals. The motto is to "keep Austin weird".

sports, Austin sounds cool. Makes me think of Boulder compared to Denver. Boulder is funky, cool, and mellow.
I have been to Boulder twice and I think if I ever wanted to live south of the border, I would be there. I never really felt I wanted to live in the USA though, although I love to visit.
BC is my heaven too!
Modest Mouse - Missed the Boat
Denver is liberal though. Colorado Springs is where all the theocrats live focus on the family originates etc.
Denver's had democratic mayors since '83. The people passed a law making having less then 1 oz of marijuana legal (cops can't get you).
Denver is a bigger Calgary minus the conservatism. (suburbs different story, but they're not part of the city of Denver)

I see Denver as a mix of everyone. I am sure there its share of conservatism too. Pretty huge corporate centre in the town.
Then again, Calgary has a mix of everyone, but some people don't see past the oil towers.
.....and you wondered why your roomate hated you.
Yeah, those evil rednecks in Calgary! Home to one of Canada's biggest folks fests, reggae fests, Canada's only gay rodeo, and Canada's second largest Carribean festival.
lol not that roommate, my best friend roommate. haha
festivals are one thing, voting tendencies federally and provincially, (yet self identified Liberal mayors is quite odd) and political outlooks are another. Denver passed a 6.2 billion dollar 192km creation of 6 light rail lines (like the Maxx in Portland) l, an electric communter rail and a diesel rail line.
The Chicano movement was big in Denver. bi-lingualism, Mexican American Civil Rights movement etc. In Calgary its those "bums and creeps" to use King Ralph's words.

Once again, proves you like to generalize every FU*KING person and place in the world. Graduate from school little guy, go live life, stop googling it! You obviously don't have a clue.
didn't know voting records = stereotyping...
interesting.
Yes, you are a Holier than though generalizer.
You once thought Vancouver was the be all, end all places in the universe...I could post some threads from DV...now it is a slummy ghetto where nobody cares about social issues.
As far as Calgary goes, you have no idea what the people are like there. I will tell you exactly what they are like, they are human beings...same goes for Edmonton, Kamloops, London, Rome....
vancouver a slummy ghetto? um no. nicest cities I've ever seen.
i think you're generalizing me for thinking that I generalize. Just because I'm critical of one little thing, doesn't mean i throw the baby out with the bath water.
Do you really want me to dig up the stuff you wrote on DS not too long ago? Nevermind DV!
EDIT: I looked for a secruity person to say somebody needs help, couldn't find anyone. I doubt if I started saying "hey guys this guy looks dead!" vancouverites wouldn't respond too well or at all.
Yoohoo! This is the listening thread.
Anyone listening to John Denver? lol
Or...the ShaNaNa hit "Shot Down in Denver"? (uh oh, now I'm dating myself...)
Nope, don't know that song. I do know who John Denver was.
I think the thread went from MGMT playing Cochella, to generalizing...again.
I guess I am the type of person that judges a place on the place itself. Not by the vote that took place and I read about online. I know Calgary is conservative. I could care less. I am not overly liberal anyways. God, I sure hope people don't judge BC and Vancouver by voting records!
I agree.

Looks like that link I provided turned into a piece of crap. Too bad, I have no idea why. Place was great, giving you access to all kinds of hard-to-find stuff, whole sides of albums - now everything is 30-second clips. Bummer.
It doesn't work any more ?....because it DID work.

try the link again, and it will take you to a 30 second clip.
and it asks you to sign up.
so I signed up and it works ok again.
I guess they were getting a lot of hits - I was definitely pushing the site, especially as it's a great way to check out stuff that's new to you at no cost.
I guess it sounds like I'm shilling for them after all - but I ain't!
I swear!
And I'm sincere!
Yea....I got the 30 second thing too. Rats !!! Well if nothing else, I DO like their set-up.(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
Viva la Vida- Coldplay
Only heard that Violet Hill I think the song is called from Coldplay?? so far off the new album. I like it better than their older stuff. It has a dark bass line. Awesome!!
Yup! That's the other one that's out. Viva la Vida is on itunes. EMI deleted all the youtube stuff. lol
Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears
Viva La Vida Coldplay's new song if you haven't heard it yet. Here's the youtube link don't know how long it will be up though sound isn't too good on the video:
[a href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh5B6nNb9U0"]vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh5B6nNb9U0[/a]
Home Before Dark - Neil Diamond.
Fade Together - Franz Ferdinand
I brought the latest Il Divo CD from Costco today... am listening to it and it sounds AWESOME so far. :)
The Bravery
Believe
West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys
[A href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAHfoIfo_7A"]vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAHfoIfo_7A[/A]
blast from the past for all of you that remember the 80s ;)
^80s...*shudders*
Hey - I know that song too. :)
It's an MGMT world out there, best music I've heard in about a year.
Electric Feel
[a href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQF8ep-OJLs"]vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQF8ep-OJLs[/a]
Kids
[a href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIEOZCcaXzE&feature=related"]vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIEOZCcaXzE&feature=related[/a]
Time to Pretend
[a href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVnRzEjpUmE"]vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVnRzEjpUmE[/a]
^cool!
You know, I never knew that Kids song was theirs. Heard it a ton too.
Yup the Kids song is MGMT
For me its Pretend, Kids, and Electric Feel in on the awesomeness list.
Although the ....I said oh girl part is awesome on Electric Feel. If Michel listened to Electric Feel he'll think he's back in the 70s disco rock. lol
Time to Pretend video, the singer looks like a very young Jagger. Not exactly looks like him, but he reminds me of a young Jagger.
Pink Floyd - Have a Cigar
My Summer Mix (which will change or grow)
The Verve-Bittersweet Symphony
New Order- Blue Monday
Yelle- à cause des garçons (Tempr Mix) (basically this is just club music, funny Yelle does a cover which is a crappy song, but her mixed song has millions of hits on youtube and she's now a favourite of the festival scene. Hmm needs to become a techno queen probably.)
MGMT- Time to Pretend
MGMT- Electric Feel
MGMT- Kids
Tears for Fears- Everybody wants to Rule the World
Pet Shop Boys- West End Girls
I don't feel like Dancing- Scissor Sisters
Tits on the Radio- Scissor Sisters
Viva la Vida- Coldplay
Violet Hill- Coldplay
Lucky Man- The Verve
Sonnet- The Verve
Dancing in the Dark - Bruce Springsteen
Green River- CCR
Imagine- John Lennon

Suicidal Tendancies - Institutionalized
Fountains of Wayne - Radiation Vibe
Good mid 90s college music. Looooong before Stacy's Mom!

Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
"Son fear is the heart of love"
So I never went back
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
Cause we'll hold each other soon
The blackest of rooms
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

Five Finger Death Punch is the band. Just pure hard rock. Not too heavy like their name sounds like. California boys.

That is sooo funny. My grandma was still going on about the Beatles haircuts, right until she passed away in the early 2000s.
Beatles are very cool though. I too even like their early Love/pop songs...before the drugs. But their drug era was the best for me. Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper are two of my all time favorite albums.
Ahhhhh, Michel.....Norwegian Wood is one of my all time favourite Beatles tunes. (Penny Lane too) (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)

When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin
So if you listen to music, you're more likely to eat Shawarma ?
Music always improves my day. Gotta love singing in the shower, singing in the car.
Better eat some more Bosnian food.
Oh sweet! That is great news!
My household, the music never stops. I have shelves of CDs from the floor to the ceiling. Sirius radio when no CD's are on.
TV is good for a bit of government controlled news, and movies.
TELL THE KIDS! Music is it!

Well, it might be good for the DS forum if everyone took a little music time every day.
I'm listening to music whenever I'm on DS...
I figured it out, and I listen to music almost 11 hours a day. All day while I work away. Then supper time I usually have it on, then in the evenings too. Not a TV fan, so music it is. Biking and driving too.
Music is my roomate and a good one too. Always cleans up after itself!

Oh agreed! I listened to the soundtrack from The Big Chill for years.
My Girl, Heard it Through thr Grapevine, Whiter Shade of Pale...
I didn't know that, fascinating. It ties in nicely then that they recorded Conquistador with the Edmonton Symphony Orchesta.
Interesting!
Electic Light Orchestra must have used some as well, but I wouldn't know it to recognize it.
You're right!
A few years back, miss P.C & I dug out our old album collection for new years and took turns playing different tracks. What a blast, I think we had dinner around midnight.
Good times just happen when you're not looking.

Hmm, I looked through records once, rather boring if your looking for rock music in my family. Every classical record you could think of though, my dad had/has/doesn't know he has anymore. Although I did find Hotel California and American Pie.
I'm dancing only because I want to see the All Star Game get a Tie in baseball.
Baseball's All Star game is tonight. In baseball you don't have ties, well in the 2002 game they had a tie, they ran out of players. Bud Selig is a goof (the commish) and he's the most cursed man in sports. Anyway they decided to make the game count, the winning side's league gets home field advantage. Well if they tie, then what do they do now since the game 'counts'.
bwhahaha lol.

Me neither I just like rooting for weird things to happen. I want to see a playoff hockey game go all the way until like 8am in the morning. That would be hilarious.

I DO NOT miss shoveling snow! I remember doing the neighborhood driveways for a pittance.Give me rain.[/DIV]
I'm a duck, moved here for the rain and warm weather, but I want to experience a Canadian winter.
I'd love to experience that, just for a winter though. Mind you I was expecting rain this winter, my sister got me a shovel for Christmas, I said it doesn't snow where I live, and once I got back, all it did was snow. hurmph.
lol picking up hitch hikers.
Yeah, higher places would have snow. I dunno, I always like the cold to the bone chill for winters. Makes you feel alive.
Let us know when that happens, we can start calling you Bubbles! (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/12.gif)
I just wouldn't pick up hitch hikers, dangerous, I come from a society full of fear where people who walk the streets are serial killers and then somebody will find you a week later in a ditch somewhere. lol
*giggles to self*
Hey man, all this talk about hitchhikers is making me think about the opening scene in Up in Smoke where Cheech and Choong meet.
Cheech is driving in the low-rider and Chong is hitchhiking and pretending to be a woman, so he will be picked up.
Cheech: "Hey! Double Bubble! Come on, I'll give you a ride!"
I seem to remember they charge a pretty hefty admission fee these days?
The times, they are a-changing
I've been listening to sappy latin pop for days on end, courtesy of the siding contractors across the street. I'm on complaining, as I wouldn't normally listen to this stuff. It's a musical holiday, if you will. Livin La Vida Loca.
Just watched the new video for The Verve- Love is Noise
Funny how they use North Koreans dancing in their video.

Yeah just looked at the website. $115 dollars for adults for the whole weekend. $75 for students 19+ with a school I.D. Sooooooo, you want to get the discount, just apply for a class at VCC and get a Student I.D. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/4.gif)
Lol, I know. St. Louis does this live at the riverfront thing, saw BB King live for free.
The Black Crowes are playing next week, either their careers have fallen off the horse so to speak or they're just in a 'giving back to the fans' since the best they can do now is play free concerts. lol
Usually though this outdoor event is pretty big in the Midwest the 'band of the summer' usually plays the event. Switchfoot was a couple years ago, now this year One Republic is playing in this free concert venue too.
Ahh^ Black Crowes. That brings back some memories!
Here is another goodie from MGMT

I missed your long ago post about seeing Arlo Guthrie at a free concert in Ottawa, Michel. I remember seeing him at Stanley Park many many moons ago. I loves the Arlo.
Working your magic again I see.
City of New Orleans.......one of my Arlo faves. (one of many)
lol.....and that's ok too.
I wonder why I always get 'We're sorry, this video is no longer available'.
If it loads slowly P.C. youtube will get that message. Just refresh the link.
Oh oh MGMT's Kids song this lyric reminds me of my childhood:
"You were a child
Crawling on your knees toward it
Making momma so proud,
But your voice is too loud"
bwhaha I don't know how many times my family goes "don't talk so loud SD, while laughing their heads off at a restaurant"
If it loads slowly P.C. youtube will get that message. Just refresh the link.
No, it's not loading slowly. It's not loading at all. A message comes up right on the screen, that says the video is no longer available. I can click on another selection on the side bar.....and it will load and play fine. Could it be from arriving at it through a link ?
Cut and paste gave the same results.....as did refreshing the page. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/11.gif)
BOO ! (//vny!://images.meebo.com/image/skin/beta/img/emoticons/ghost.gif)
Well, ghosts ARE invisible.
Your cut and paste shows the actual image. How weird.
Actually, there's another weird thing. For the last few weeks, I can't post a link without cutting and pasting it in Word first to activate it. Otherwise, it just appear as a line of code.
I wonder if that is the connection between your pasted links and the colourful pages. Timing would be about right.[/DIV]
That's a cute lil ghost smilie you have there, PC. It must be Casper.
I'm listening to the air sucking sound a straw makes when you are at the bottom of your drink.
(lunch with my friend was lovely.....and although I have nothing to compare it with.....I'm sure she makes the best Mojitos around)
I am not sure if she makes the BEST Mojitos when I am pretty sure I do...I will prove it too!
Does your friend want to have a "Mojito-showdown"?
I even crank up Rumbon on Sirius 83 while I muddle the lime and mint!! HA!
If you guys have a mojito-showdown, could I be the Judge? (not Judge Judy, though)
So.....my lunch friend leaves......and another friend shows up for dinner. Now, I need another Mojito at this point, like I need a hole in my head.......but I had to show her my new found skill. (well....I watched closely) It was good.....and as much as I thought I followed her every move....it wasn't AS good.
I hope there are many more hot steamy summer days, so I can hone my skill.(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
Well start dowing the Mojitos turn on some Jimmy Buffet and take a Siesta. lol

Why don't we send you there anyway, just on general principal.
Don't be scared PC, I love you...come back....*sniffle*

Hey Van, have you been listening to anything new lately?
Lately I've been listening to LCD Soundsystem, The Raveonettes, and Black Kids.
I have heard a lot, but not sure all the band names. Usually have it on Sirius all day and don't always see who is playing.
I am digging
One Day as a Lion - Wild International
The drummer from Mars Volta and Zach de la Rocha from Rage.
ah my buddy is obsessed with kings of leon.
Kings of Leon are very cool.
He was kind of like the forgotten member of Floyd. Although there from the beginning. He wasn't much of a songwriter, but just as important as a performer as Barret, Waters, and Gilmour.
Shine on you Crazy Diamond
Romeo and Juliet love theme.... always loved it. :)
The Dire Straits song, the one from the ballet, or the one from the movie?
Lil Me wrote:

The movie. I prefer instrumental - violin and piano. :)
West End Girls- Pet Shop Boys
Life in Technicolour - Coldplay
whoa. Blast from the past. I liked the Pet Shop Boys. Had a t-shirt, I think.
I liked their re-make of Always on My Mind (the Elvis song) and collaboration with Dusty Springfield (What Have I Done to Deserve This).
Alive - Edwin
Good song, Russ!
Everybody Wants to Rule the World- Tears for Fears
I'm stuck in 80s new wave again, living in the past.
Found an awesome video someone made
Romeo and Juliet (Dire Straits) with footage from the movie

tomorrow's world. ugly kid joe
I agree miss pl.. good song.
I like the footage on that video.. I think I came across that one too. :)
I also have the soundtrack but it doesn't have this song that I'm looking for. I prefer on piano but violin will do. :)

Hey purelife- that's the theme from the old Romeo and Juliet movie (1968).
I have sheet music for it somewhere- in a box...somewhere. It's in the Superhits of the '70s song book....along with Feelings and Up Up and Away in My Beautiful Balloon, and Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head...lol
Following the Romeo and Juliet theme, check out this footage from West Side Story:

Oh, I didn't know that...that's the one I love. The only new one I love is Desree's Kissing You song. I have the mp3 somewhere on my computer but it wasn't properly downloaded...I'll have to find the actual DVD somewhere if they still sell the old classic theme song.

That's one really nice.. I'll have to check it out fully when I get home. :)
I dunno know why but I'm in a R&J mood and only want to listen to them when I get home.
Oh, has anyone ever listened to the theme song to A Beautiful Mind. I think composer is James Hornet? Everytime I hear that one, I always cry...it's SO SAD!
ADD: Finally found it on youtube..
[A href="vny!://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PucPN9TdhTs"]vny!://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PucPN9TdhTs[/A]
And this Braveheart - main theme is a beautiful one too
[A href="vny!://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-toLGqbfzFo"]vny!://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-toLGqbfzFo[/A]
Disturbed - Indestructible
I found that Josh Groban's Awake CD, track 10 is about Romeo and Juliet but sung in Italian and is the old theme song. I knew I purchased this CD for a reason. :)
Oh Josh.... *sighs*
*sigh* indeed... He should do up a love theme for the Note book... in Italian....OMGMELT!
ok....umm...
Machine Head - Halo is a pretty cool metal song....
Haiti- Arcade Fire
It's getting autumn-winter like, which means time to start listening to bi-lingual Montreal bands.
Bush - Glycerin (the accoustic version of course)

Ah, c'mon. You don't need to have a brain to enjoy the music. I just like the beat. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/2.gif)
I didn't mean to offend anyone.
It just sounded like the usual 'Pre Packaged - Made from a boardroom, not from the heart', kind of pre-teen bubble gum tune. Not to slam pre-teens, or if there is any 13 year olds on DS, I apologize. It is just not for me.
The 'ol Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, and for some reason the boy or girl needs to whine about it in a song is something I never got into. But hey, if you dig the beat, just Give'er!!

Girls don't like boys,
Girls like cars and money
Boys will laugh at girls when they're not funny....
haha that song reminds me of high schoolers and 1st years at uni.
Ah, I'm not offended. Everyone's got a weakness at some point. It's a fun song that happens to make me smile.
Oh.... just in the mood for Puff the Magic Dragon.

90s Classic!!
Cracker was a great college band in the 90s. Had a few mainstream songs that you might recognize.
Sorry, I hope I didn't sound like I was making fun of the band...
I was just trying to twist words around... :)
ADD: I youtubed the song and I think I've heard it before.
haha, no worries.
[a href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjV8SHjHvHk"]Helloween - I Want Out (1988)[/a]
From all lives beginning on
We are pushed in little forms
No one asks us how we like to be
In school they teach us what to think
But everyone says different things
But they're all convinced that
They're the ones to see
So they keep talking and they never stop
And at certain point you give it up
So the only thing that's left to think is this
I want out... to live my life alone
I want out... leave me be
I want out... to do things on my own
I want out... to live my life and to be free
People tell me a and b
They tell me how I have to see
Things that I have seen already clear
So they push me then from side to side
They're pushing me from black to white
They're pushing til threes nothing more to hear
But don't push me to the maximum
Shut your mouth and take it home
cause I decide the way things gonna be
I want out... to live my life alone
I want out... leave me be
I want out... to do things on my own
I want out... to live my life and to be free
Theirs a million ways to see the things in life
A million ways to be the fool
In the end of it, none of us is right
Sometimes we need to be alone
I want out... to live my life alone
I want out... leave me be

Orik, Iron Maiden are one of the bands from the 80s that I totally respect. Love their lyrics and mystery. Seen them in concert and wow! Every song was like it's own adventure on stage.
hi van
iron maiden on stage is a show and a half
worth every penny to go and see or so i hear :D
hey michel not knocking ur song choice just didnt know how to reply to a song that left me twisted in knots one side of me wanted to smite u the other side wanted to bless you it was not a song i needed nor wanted to hear last night. umm this morning umm last night...
either way... i still can not stomach mornings... i need something fast heavy and something to make my ears and mind bleed and forget all that is soft and next off for a coffee and some breaky ... ...
a little something from the album and justice for all

I agree with you orik. Something nice and mellow first thing in the morning.
Metallica!... got the black album on
I've been listening to Coldplay's Viva. Its a good morning, thinking expansively, driving, biking, wondering aloud album. lol
The Beatles - While my guitar gently weeps.
Fantastic song for my morning. One of the few written by George Harrison.
That is sad and closed minded. We are all on this one planet.
As for Clapton, that may be true? I am not sure. But I read that Harrison and Clapton were good friends and did jam together a lot. Whether that was recorded? Either way, I could listen to Beatles for hours at a time.
^ There you go!
My ears would die from pleasure overload if I could hear these two together live.
listening to Coldplay again.
Strawberry Fields Forever for example, or Tomorrow Never Knows, or Dear Prudence
Three of my faves as well, Michel. Plus I'd have to add, Lovely Rita, Norwegian Wood, Penny Lane, Run for Your Life, And your Bird can Sing....and Your Mother Should Know. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/14.gif)
I am the Walrus

Come Together
This list could go on all day.
As far as I am concerned, no band nowadays can even come close to touching how fantastic the Beatles were. Not even close.
no band can touch the Beatles nor can any ever hold a candle to them that is one thing i can and will agree on...but cause of all the tears how about a little laughter today my friends

Thanks Orik!
that is a cool video. Where John Lennon is talking with that one guy and realizes there is a camera on him. He gives the camera a strange look. He had the look of LSD on his face. awesome song.
I swear I see Jagger and Richards in that clip too.
Bloody amazing. Kind of makes me pissed at my own generation for putting out so much crappy music in comparison. Don't get me wrong, there are a few gems and some is really great music, but comparing it to what was accomplished between 64 and 70!! It boggles my mind.
Here is another cool one when you get a chance Michel.

[A href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wd1ZCcBhmv4"]vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wd1ZCcBhmv4[/A]
By the mid 60s. The Beatles didn't even come to the ED Sullivan show in person. They just shot a video clip from England and sent it to Sullivan.

K, I kinda like Britney's [A href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZSLIq6YiRY"]Womanizer[/A].

Well it would sure make the music world dull if we all liked the same thing, now wouldn't it ?
I'm listening to the grunting of the Karma Piggy
Frozen- Within Temptation.
Well, it's a pity that some folks do not share the same interest in music. And it's too bad that you have no respect for other people but I'm not letting your comment bother me. It would take too much effort to sink to that level.
BTW, if you didn't like this thread which I HAVE started, why bother coming in here anywhere?
Oh yes, anyone heard of Beyonce's [A href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mVEGfH4s5g"]Single Ladies[/A]? Catchy tune.

Curious though.....why would it bother you what Lise likes ?[/DIV]

In defence of Lise, last song I listened to was Manfred Man's Earth Band - Blinded by the Light which I love singing karaoke to. What can I say, I like to have fun. Right now I could pull off the 70s look anyway, get me some aviators. The joke all week is that I look like 80s Bono in the morning.

I apologize for being a dick to you Lise. I am pretty negative these days. I will play nice on this forum. I see it is no DV.
I liked Britney better back in 99. when she looked like a school girl, getting ready to get the principal fired. If someone put a gag on her face and I didn't have to hear her and could just look at her. Even post pregnancy, she is still a pretty girl.
Hey, no problems, None. I'm so through with DV days. I can't say that I don't regret being on DV because if I hadn't been there, I wouldn't have met so many great people.
Thank you for being nice.
For the record, I don't really like Britney Spears but she's got some funky tunes that's catchy. My taste in music varies depending on my mood.

I've got stuff on my iPod that I'm not sure what to do with them. To delete or not, that is the question.
Embarassed to say that I've started listening to Spice Girls. OMG. They were so big in my days.
I remember them, actually I didn't mind them over the britney types. At least with the Spice Girls they were up front with their image. lol Plus the Spice Girls movie is actually somewhat comical.
I haven't watched the movie yet.... not will I but you're right about the Spice Girls. They're much better than Britney. Too bad about Britney. I mean, she's talented and given the right vibe (change her outlook, style and manner) I think she could be the next Madonna easily.(hah)

China gave a detailed account of how it developed its nuclear capability
[img]vny!://news.bbc.co.uk/furniture/nothing.gif" width="1" height="5"]
China says it has the technology to build a neutron bomb - a nuclear weapon that produces enhanced radiation.
The news confirms for the first time findings in a controversial US report that Chinese scientists had mastered the ability to make a neutron bomb and miniaturised nuclear warheads.

The song is about my friend OSien had dropped something into a grate and couldn't get it out ... he says "what i need is a robot with claws" - his friend says "no - you need a midget - with little fingers"
The singer OSien is also a great guitarist.
[a href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wtdutc5pU8"]Megadeth - My Last Words[/a]
[span]My life's on time,
But again my sense is late.
Feel a might unsteady,
But still I have to play.
Six to one's the odds,
And, we have the highest stakes.
And, once again I gamble with my very life today.
Highly polished metal,
The oil makes it gleam.
Fill the terror chamber,
Your mind begins to scream.
Your life is like a trigger,
Never trouble till you're squeezed.
Now you crack a smile,
As you give the gun a tease.
Place the piston down,
Now give the gun a spin.
Soon as the spinning stops,
Oh no, the game starts in.
A hateful way of vengeance,
A bit of playful sin.
Load another bullet,
Now the second round begins.
A couple grains of powder,
A couple grams of lead.
A touch against the trigger,
A touch inside the head.
Take another drink, and
Raise the last bets.
Think about my last words,
They might be what I just said.
A click comes from the hammer,
That couldn't drive a nail.
Sense the numbing cold blue,
Or the red of Hades' grill.
A fraction of a second,
Do you lose, or maybe still,
Pass it to the left,
And collect your mighty kill.
Add another bullet,
The third round begins.
Soon as the spinning stops,
Oh no, the game starts in.
Please, no I.O.U.'s,
No markers for death.
Does anybody play? Anybody,
Somebody, anybody play.
You, you, next victim, you next to die.
You, come on, next victim, your turn to die.

Um, would I just plug in the sound card, or do I need to download a driver for it? I'm tempted to just go without sound because the computer is an ancient piece of junk. It's still useful for text-based applications, like email and QuickBooks, but that's it.

Young brother, young brother you be quiet
Although you are crying to me
Your father has left us
He has gone to the place of the dead
Protect the head of the living, Protect the orphan child
Young brother, young brother hey? although you are crying to me
Your father has left us
He has gone to the place of the dead
Protect the head of the living, protect the orphan child
Interpreting the Song:
This interpretation and lyrics come from one very old lady, living in Fataleka (one of the Solomon Islands), as translated by her grandchildren. The song is said to be very old and hence the new generation does not understand every word.
The song is about a young child crying because he does not see his father with the family. In response his elder sister sung this song to comfort as well as tell him the reality, with an appeal for their deceased father to protect this child in the land of the living (local ancient belief is that the dead care for loved ones they left behind).
The old woman also said that the sample, if listened to carefully, used some words and sounds that were added to make it sound more melo. Expression of some words twice, as well pronounciation of most of the words are different from that of normal conversation. Eg. 'O' should be OE', Angiangi should be angisi. This is very common with local traditional songs.
Thanks to the people of the Solomon Islands for the lyrics, translation, and interpretation [/span]

I've been listening to love songs (ladyhawke) and blues songs about drinking (thorogood). The latter being my final acceptance/realization in that I'm a midwestern boy, but I said this last year too when started talking like a southerner in about mid-April and freaking everyone out. I rather be the East Euro 2nd gen without all the genocidal tendencies.

The Verve's Urban Hymns album
Urban Hymns is the third album by English [A class=mw-redirect title="Rock band" href="/wiki/Rock_band"]rock band[/A] [A title="The Verve" href="/wiki/The_Verve"]The Verve[/A], released on 29 September, 1997. It earned nearly unanimous critical praise upon its release, and went on to become the band's best-selling release and one of the biggest selling albums of the year.
The Verve had previously released two albums, [A title="A Storm in Heaven" href="/wiki/A_Storm_in_Heaven"]A Storm in Heaven[/A] in 1993 and [A title="A Northern Soul" href="/wiki/A_Northern_Soul"]A Northern Soul[/A] in 1995. Neither album had achieved mainstream success,[SUP id=cite_ref-YELLOW_0-0 class=reference][A href="#cite_note-YELLOW-0"][SPAN][[/SPAN]1[SPAN]][/SPAN][/A][/SUP] and the band split shortly after their second album due to internal conflicts. Vocalist [A title="Richard Ashcroft" href="/wiki/Richard_Ashcroft"]Richard Ashcroft[/A] quickly reformed the group, with [A title="Simon Tong" href="/wiki/Simon_Tong"]Simon Tong[/A], an old friend of the band on guitar, however Ashcroft realised Nick McCabe's unique guitar style was required to complete the true Verve unit and later asked him to return. Tong also remained adding more guitar and keyboard/organ textures, making them a 5 piece band and expanding their sound.[SUP id=cite_ref-YELLOW_0-1 class=reference][A href="#cite_note-YELLOW-0"][SPAN][[/SPAN]1[SPAN]][/SPAN][/A][/SUP]

Bless your heart. Do you get migraines often? How long have you been having migraines? I hope your medication works.
When I get a migraine I take my medicine, turn everything off, cover up and cry til I fall asleep. I don't get them often though, 2-3 times a month. However, I do get bad headaches often. I just continue my day suffering in silence.
Listening to - my cell phone viberate every few mintues.
I also get migraines 1 to 3 times a month as for the bad headaches sometimes more than 9 in a month these headaches are not as bad as the migraines but near to it, Natasha I to normally just curl up in the dark waiting in frustration and pain for sleep to come..
A migraine hurts more than any one can imagine. If a person that has never had one says they understand, I explain what one feels like, like this.
The head is to small and everything inside is just to big. the slightest sound hurts and is magnified up to a factor of 10 times what it really is. a pin dropping sounds like a phone ringing, a phone ringing sounds like a fire alarm and thank god I have never heard the fire alarm while in a migraine state.. . lights can be blinding and so excruciatingly painful...
Now Imagine your worst hangover, suddenly starting with little warning, Then magnify that Headache and hangover by 10, throw in some nausea, the blindness that sometimes comes with it, so put a blindfold on, the slightest sounds hurt, so hit yourself repeatedly in the head with a hammer.
Now you can say you have experienced 1/10 the part of what a migraine feels like to those that suffer then and only then can yo usay you understand.
Natasha my deepest sympathies to you, returns the ((((Hug)))) when you have a migraine nothing in life is worse than one that I know of...

Do you take anything for your normal headaches? I usually don't take anything at all for those. I don't like medication. I feel like it fixes one ailment and adds another. I only take my migraine pill when I have a migraine because I've have had it to put me to sleep for up 12 hrs =( I hate sleeping that long. Half the day is wasted then the other half is spent incoherent waiting for the medication to wear off entirely.

One that's one way of explaining it. I suppose. I keep it simple and tell people the only worse than a migraine would be being shot in the head at close range.

Where you get them from?????
I ordered them a long time ago from a web site. just getting around to liestening to them now. I had a ton of books to go through first.
D you can find a bunch of [a href="vny!://www.freeotrshows.com/"]old episodes[/a] here for download and free at that... Some of the harder ones can be found on torrent sites and or you can go another route and order them off some guys who spent hours collecting them all.
I got lazy and paid a guy to send them all to me ... The price was cheap 30 dollars for a few Cd's plus shipping and handling which cost a little more... But I would gladly pay to have more episodes for how well done they where.
I was very impressed with the service and the look of the Cd's... I know I can get all the same stuff for free but I honestly did not want to put the time in seeking it all out then more time down loading it testing it and then burning it not when some one else had all ready done so. [a href="vny!://www.otrcat.com/"]I Used this site[/a] to order the episodes I wanted...
Alternatively you can also join fan sites & news groups and some dedicated torrent sites that do media share with those who have the same interests.

This isn't more of 'what are you listening to now' as it is 'what is stuck in your head at the moment, but it's rather amusing.
I have the cabaret song "Capri Fischer" that Lola sings in Fassbinder's Lola periodically stuck in my head.
Bella, bella, bella Marie...
[a href="vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-XJcp5cz98"]vny!://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-XJcp5cz98[/a]
In typical Fassbinder fashion, what you are seeing is all in one take. He never did a scene with multiple takes as to him it wasn't 'real'. The man was crazy but his films are a joy to watch with great meaning about things pertaining to Germany and life etc. I could go on, but this is not a film review thread. lol
Love that film.
Wow, that song's really full of nostalgia. Thanks for posting it, SD. I was once in a bar in Munich when Fassbinder came in, but at the time I didn't realise who it was..

Absolutely, sometimes I prefer a nice simple classic. Back then it really was more about the singer and the music. Now it's 90% fake. Still fun to listen to and even better to dance to but still yet nothing beats a classic. This is one of my favorites from Patsy Cline.
