It has all the bells and whistles: a[a href="vny!://www.davidsuzuki.org/blog/"] blog[/a], a (gag me) theme song sung by [a href="vny!://www.davidsuzuki.org/tour/materials.asp"]Raffi[/a]; and an invitation to upload your political statements to youtube. (watch Randy Bachman [a href="vny!://www.davidsuzuki.org/tour/watch.asp"]take care of business here[/a]) Could this self-described "old fart" be more au courant?[/p]  Yes he could! He has come out swinging against bottled water. "I think in Canada it's absolutely disgusting that people are so uncertain about their water that we buy it, paying more for bottled water than we do for gasoline."...."It's nuts to be shipping water all the way across the planet, and us — because we're so bloody wealthy — we're willing to pay for that water because it comes from France," he said in an interview.
[/p]                             [div id="more" class="entry-more"]                               "I don't believe for a minute that French water is better than Canadian water. I think that we've got to drink the water that comes out of our taps, and if we don't trust it, we ought to be raising hell about that."[/p]  Key environmental issues with bottled water, Suzuki said, are waste and uncertainty over the long-term health effects created by plastic.[/p]  "Not only does bottled water lead to unbelievable pollution — with old bottles lying all over the place — but plastic has chemicals in it," he said.[/p]  "Plastics are ubiquitous. I don't believe that plastics are not involved in a great deal of the health problems that we face today."[a href="vny!://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2007/02/01/suzuki-water.html"] ::CBC[/a][/p]

FINALLY!!!  Someone is backing me up.  I've been laughing at people for buying bottled water for years.  The tap water in Burnaby tastes exactly like Dasani.

You arent the only one raver. I get confused by people that pay for water when it comes free out of a tap.

Dasani = Atlanta tap water.

I never buy bottled water its pointless.  Only thing good I can see of it is if I'm working out I'd need a bottle to fill water up in or on long trips and as a back up if the water goes bad or something.

I drink tap water, but I do have a filter hooked up to my tap and my drinking water is filtered. just takes out sediment, and other unknown items. I am not sure if it is necessary, but it doesn't hurt.

I don't always believe everything that comes out of Suzuki's mouth either!

I can't stand David Suzuki. I don't know. There's something about him that just grates me. I know he fights for a good cause but the way he goes about it.... I don't know. I can't stand him.

As for bottled water, I recycle them whenever I can. I do buy them for convinient sake but I always recycle them. I also drink boiled tap water whenever.

Next thing you know, he's attacking you because you're using disposable diapers.

yeah, I don't mind hearing him. It is a different point of view. But I am sure if he went back in time, the natives on North American soil, long before whitey came along, were polluting too much for his liking too.

I used to work for David Suzuki Foundation's HO in Kits.  There is something about him too that I feel as well Lise.  I don't want to say anything further but I felt that people who donate money to this Foundation is getting ripped off.  Almost all of their money goes towards Admin fees (ie wages, printed materials and adverts)  When I see this huge fuss about "bottled water" and such, all that comes to mind is "Gosh, here's his marketing idea because he just doesn't know what to do with his money."

This is just my opinion and what I feel.  Ok, feel free to egg me now.

well he's an activist and in order to get out the message you've got to use a lot and a lot of flyers.  But I bet most of the flyers were recycled.  More flyers = more people getting on board, and then you've got a movement.  Its how grass roots politics works.

Yes, I understand that.  But he has many many people who DO NOT want his flyers and they keep sending and sending to these "unwanted" people anyways.  I'd like to see them have a better system in controlling these mass distributions.  I mean, does one have to resort to the excuse "This person died a while ago.  STOP SENDING NOW" threats?

Okay you've got to tell people not to sign up.  When you sign up to a environmental magazine there is a box that says do you want to recieve flyers and other info from other honourable mags/issues etc.  If you checked or clicked yes David Suzuki's flyer gets to your door no matter what.  I got a ton of mail like that all the time. I' got 20 or so giant letters from Robert Kennedy Jr. saying blah blah this blah blah that and always wanting money.  Those ended when my magazine subscription ended.  Basically thats why you saw a bunch of angry complaints from people.  They checked or clicked that box.

Yes, that too AND DSF also buys mailing lists associated with other Environmental issues.  They buy these lists from other Non-Profit organizations and bombard these people with unwelcomed flyers.

Oh well, there isn't much that we can do but for a non-profit organization who is about saving trees and such, they sure have ways to not do it.

thats how these organizations work always will.  But I bet the flyers were from recycled material if not then thats weird because most of the stuff I got all said from recycled materials with a certification.

It makes sense not to import water from France when BC water is amazing! It takes a lot of fuel to get France water across the Atlantic.
