Title: DV too unsafe to surf at the mo

The place has turned into a mine field!

Two separate hacks in one night.

Sysadmin says the holes are closed.

Yet you click on a link and you're trapped in yet another hack...

Most of them are relatively "harmless" tricks, but nonetheless annoying.

Windows that never close, or system prompts that regenerate as soon as you try to close them...

The safest way to surf that place is with another browser, with all its scripting functions turned off.

I keep telling them... the only fool-proof way to block exploits is to disallow ALL html, then selectively RE-allow non harmful tags. And even that approach isn't perfect. But for every harmful tag or piece of code that he blocks, three more alternatives present themselves...

There are hacks and there are hacks. The GNAA ones appear to beparticularly destructive for some people. One was a simple nuisancethat was easy enough to deal with if you have two hands, and anotherwas actually what you might call a "good" hack, killing off a nastythread with a simple redirect to a harmless site.

It is always a mine field, but the GNAA crap is like a napalm hit.

My coding skills are not up to the level where I can kill the GNAAhack. And I'm not so sure that the origin of that one isn't... well...let's just say that somebody is doing something to those pages who hasabilities beyond regular users.

For the first time in a long time I shielded myself behind a proxy and checked out what's going on... the landscape I saw wasn't pretty.

You guys are giving real hackers a real bad name by calling the poster a "hacker."

It is not hacking to post a line or two of simple HTML into a forum where nobody has bothered to filter HTML.  

It's even easier if you copied the code from somewhere else instead of making it yourself; if you trained it hard enough and long enough, a chimpanzee could do it.

A  mod  is  there  now, deleting posts and  fixing  others  with  the usual random  method  at  DV.  As I have  said  over  there  before in a  rare  mood  when  I was   actually  being  serious, it's  Sodom. Expect  Sodom,  prepare for  Sodom, and  you  will  never be  thrown by  what  happens  there.

I just can't believe the way the site admin runs things over at DV. Incredibly, the real hackers of the internet (tgwpd and replica watch spammers) haven't found them yet. I have an idea that if they did, the site admin would get off his shit and block HTML rather more quickly than he's doing right now.

The DV site admin is a joke, and the mods are his punchline. If I ran an online community like that, I'd be surprised if I had any members left at all (oh wait, he can't have members, because his forum doesn't support it ha-ha)

Several of the posts above are attempts at inserting malicious code into this board. They didn't work, but they did give me some ideas for some additional keywords to block. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/14.gif)

I used to pop back to DV now and then, since I've been on DS.  It's no longer worth the risk.  Even without the risk, the majority of topics are just garbage. There's hardly a thing resembling a 'normal' topic of conversation.  It's a no poop scoop rule dog park.  Pity....it was once a lot of fun.

When I first found DV, it was a lot of fun "meeting" new people.  But I've erased it from my favourites page now.  It's much too risky to go there and there's no good reason why I'd want to.  I can't understand why the owners would let it get into such a state.  They must be losing a lot of business that way.

DV is in sad shape.

dangerous and not funny anymore.

basically it is a trainwreck underway and we get to watch.

Well, I guess it is "click beware" at DV.   I think a lot of those "pop up spams" are put there by bored children with nothing better to do than cause trouble for the rest of the world that comes to DV for a night of amusement.

I've learned to spot the "stay away" threads and now click on ones that have nothing to do with pantyhose or how many erections a guy can get in one night....it does make for some boring reads, but hey, that's my lot in life....

TehBorken does excellent work here at DS, and it is clear by now those at DV could stand to learn a lesson or two from him (I presume you are a him?).  Let's hope Lise and purelife (and all the other good folks from DV) can persuade the adminstrators there to get rid of their HTML coding options.  

I still hope DV does change its ways soon, but meanwhile I'll lurk between the two if not to check how many smites I've gotten and wonder who doesn't like me...(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Thinking/3.gif)

DV is a lost cause.  Legion tried telling the admins to turn off their HTML codes, but they never listened.  We're just free labours for these admins.  What a joke!  They've already lost two moderators and a bunch of regulars.  I ain't touching that infested-viral site.

As for the people running around staging attacks against DV (and here), I think they should be hunted down and ventilated maximally. I just wish the government would make it legal for ordinary citizens to do so.

I actually like Panhoff's wacked threads on DV. And the whole Kitten2006/FashionGirl thing is brilliant in its own twisted way, even if she is really a 400 pound shut-in with pasty skin and bed sores. Hay, you have to give the man props for determination.

It's a zoo over there. But every once in a while a little trip to the zoo is nice.
