I had a post your favourite lyrics and talk about music in general thread before DS 2.0 was launched in Feb '06 so its back from the dead.
Lyrics:
Coldplay: Things I don't Understand
Reason: A lot of things I've been feeling the past couple of months can be summed up in this song.
The first paragraph of lyrics sums up the last couple of months.
How tides control the sea, and what becomes of me
How little things can slip out of your hands
How often people change, no two remain the same
Why things don't always turn out as you plan
These are things that I don't understand
Yeah, these are things that I don't understand
I can't, and I cant decide
Wrong, all my wrong from right
Day, all my day from night
Dark, all my dark from light
I live, but I love this life
How infinite is space, and who decides your fate
Why everything will dissolve into sand
How to avoid defeat, when truth and fiction meet
Why nothing ever turns out as you plan
These are things that I don't understand
Yeah, these are things that I don't understand
I can't, and I cant decide
Wrong, all my wrong from right
Day, all my day from night
Or dark, all my dark from light
I live, but I love this life

Muse: "Starlight" off of Black Holes and Revelations
Meaning to me: Well this song is about wondering. First couple lines to me sums up my future or better my wanting to leave everything I know because I'm tired and want something new. I'm chasing this thing that I don't know is worth it but I'm doing it anyway.
"Starlight"
Far away
This ship is taking me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die
Starlight
I will be chasing the starlight
Until the end of my life
I don't know if it's worth it anymore
Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms
My life
You electrify my life
Let's conspire to re-ignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive
But I'll never let you go
If you promised not to fade away
Never fade away
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms
Far away
This ship is taking me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die
And I'll never let you go
If you promise not to fade away
Never fade away
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms
I just wanted to hold
Lyrics: Travis "Driftwood"
Reason: Again more on the drifting, roaming theme. I've burned so many bridges in my life so badly they can't be rebuilt. I don't really have this sense of home. I always grew up traveling around. My family lives apart from each other in different time zones we are all distant. If I have any kind of 'home' its down on the farm but we clash so much because we are so different its not a home I like to call home. So I drift
Everything is open
Nothing is set in stone
Rivers turn to ocean
Oceans tide you home
Home is where your heart is
But your heart had to roam
Drifting over bridges
Never to return
Watching bridges burn
Youre driftwood floating underwater
Breaking into pieces pieces pieces
Just driftwood hollow and of no use
Waterfalls will find you bind you grind you
Nobody is an island
Everyone has to go
Pillars turn to butter
Butterflying low
Low is where your heart is
But your heart has to grow
Drifting under bridges
Never with the flow
And you really didnt think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So Im sorry that you turned to driftwood
But youve been drifting for a long long time
Everywhere theres trouble
Nowheres safe to go
Pushes turn to shovels
Shovelling the snow
Frozen you have chosen
The path you wish to go
Drifting now forever
And forever more
Until you reach your shore
Youre driftwood floating underwater
Breaking into pieces p ieces pieces
Just driftwood hollow and of no use
Waterfalls will find you bind you grind you
And you really didnt think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So Im sorry that you turned to driftwood
But youve been drifting for a long long time
Youve been drifting for a long long time
Youve been drifting for a long long
Drifting for a long long time
Lyrics: U2 When I look at the World
Reason: Well this song is pretty self explainitory especially when you read the lyrics.
When you look at the world
What is it that you see
People find all kinds of things
That bring them to their knees
I see an expression
So clear and so true
That changes the atmosphere
When you walk to the room
So I try to be like you
Try to feel it like you do
But without you its no use
I cant see what you see
When I look at the world
When the night is someone elses
And youre trying to get some sleep
When your thoughts are too expensive
To ever want to keep
When theres all kinds of chaos
And everyone is walking lame
You dont even blink now do you
Dont even look away
So I try to be like you
Try to feel it like you do
But without you its no use
I cant see what you see
When I look at the world
I cant wait any longer
I cant wait til Im stronger
Cant wait any longer
To see what you see
When I look at the world
Im in the waiting room
I cant see for the smoke
I think of you and your holy book
When the rest of us choke
Tell me tell me
What do you see
Tell me tell me
Whats wrong with me

You keep telling us this, but nobody yet from Canada has heard of them.
I know I can't believe nobody on here as heard of this band. All my friends from Quebec have heard of this band. (They're not a french band but its a husband-wife band where the wife is from Haiti).
They have won a bunch of Juno's and should have won a Grammy. Rolling Stone called Arcade Fire the greatest band of their generation.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh....THAT Canada. Now I get it.

there is only ONE Canada no matter what some people say...

Me too.
that link is bad for me the music keeps skipping.
Wow I don't understand Canadian bands is all that I listen to.
The Arcade Fire
Stars
Broken Social Scene
The Stills
Heck on iTunes I have a Canadian Playlist that has
Arcade Fire
Stars
Broken Social Scene
Gordon Lightfoot
The Band
Hot Hot Heat
The New Pornographers
Kathleen Edwards
The Stills
Wolf Parade
The Dears
Fiest
Metric
And iTunes has its own Canada Catalog of Canadian Indies.
Your bands are influencing mainstream music and you don't even know it wow.
I'm sure if they're doing such a good job we here in the boonies will hear about them in a few years.
If I hear something I like, I listen to it, I dont care where its from.
Indie's is not my choice of music. From anywhere.[/DIV]
The only two I have heard of on that list, is The Band and Gordon Lightfoot.
I'm the same, Russ. Either I like it or I don't....and I don't care much where they come from.
I know the radio show isn't on anymore but there was this weekly radio show on CBC Radio that played all the bands I listen to all the time. Plus then there's CBC 3 I listen to that as well.
