I remember reading a Calvin and Hobbes comic a few years ago, and Calvin's dad was typing away on the computer, complaining that these new advances in technology make his job tougher/more hectic.

I have no use for a cell phone. I have one, but NEVER use it. Hubby (and others) have implored me to get in the habit of keeping it with me 'in case of emergency', but I just never think of it. And if it rings when I'm driving....I don't answer, or if it rings when I'm in a store.....I don't answer.

Really PC you don't use your cell phone? Without it for me I get worried due to my job and I drive a lot and there are animals on the road. What if I hit one, drive off the road, and nobody sees the accident? I'm screwed. Although I think parents give there kids cell phones just to call them constantly just to see 'where they are' or 'what are they doing'. I have a friend whose parents are like that. Heck one of my friends whose 24 can't drive to Minneapolis Minnesota where his college is alone so his parents follow him up all the way up there. And then when he comes home he has a curfew of 10pm. And they wonder why he won't come home.
Heck if I get into college in the Pacific Northwest there's only one way to get there driving and whose doing the driving, me. Parents can't do it dad works 24/7 and my mom teaches. So at 21 (early August) I'll drive completely across the country alone. Nobody is worried about me. Yet my friend is 24 and his parents treat him like he's still a kid.

Nope.......as close to never as you can get. There are a lot of animals on the roads here also. As a matter of fact, I had JUST moved to the Island, had been here less than a month, and I hit a deer. (poor thing [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/more/bigs/c020.gif" border=0]).......totalled my car. Anyways, people were extremely helpful, and stranger than strange, a police car just happened to have been behind me and was at my car before it even came to rest. Errrrr.......what was my point.
Anyways, I'm sure they're VERY useful. I just figure I got along fine without one for many many years, and I'm getting along fine not using one now.
They're probably best for text messages.
I guess I'm just not in that mode where I need to feel constantly connected to everyone. As long as hubby knows where I am, and isn't worrying about me, I'm fine. If someone phones me, and I'm not home.......then it simply means I'm not home. I can't recall in the last 10 years, that something so urgent has required me to be 'on call' 24/7.
I only turn mine on when I want to use it.

The wheel has to figure in there somewhere. A very useful invention. It would be hard to drive a car without some.
