Very weird, but definitely cool to watch!
Autogene mechanical umbrella performance
Installation artist Peter William Holden built a cool machine consisting of eight umbrellas that "dance" to "Singin' In The Rain." The video of the mechanical performance is terrific. From Holden's description of the work:[img]vny!://www.boingboing.net/images/umbrella.jpg" alt="Umbrella" align="left" border="1" height="200" hspace="4" vspace="4" width="287"] Busby Berkeley choreographed dancers to mimic the motions of machines and modern inventions. "AutoGene" is the flipside of this. It's a simple aesthetic looking robot composed of eight modified umbrellas mounted in a circular pattern. A cocktail of air hoses and electrical cables join these umbrellas to a central computer which enables "AutoGene" to produce a choreographed dance to music which replaces the machine's mechanical qualities and transforms the mundane umbrellas into near-magical animated objects.

Hmmm, maybe you can't link directly to it. Try this link: [a href="vny!://www.peter-william-holden.com/installations/autogene/autogene.html"]vny!://www.peter-william-holden.com/installations/autogene/autogene.html[/a]

Yup, allowing that would be a security hole, one that caused a little bit of grief here and a lot on DV. So, it's turned off to prevent a recurrance of that kind of exploit. If we allowed it, they'd exploit it and you'd get the millions of pop-up windows with Outlook sending email, etc etc. I wish I could allow it but it's not a safe thing to do because of malicious trolls.
Worked for me, but it was too wierd to watch the whole thing.
It's weird, the [a href="vny!://www.peter-william-holden.com/installations/autogene/autogene.html"]vny!://www.peter-william-holden.com/installations/autogene/autogene.html[/a] link works in Firefox but the [a href="vny!://www.peter-william-holden.com/installations/autogene/autogene_mov.html"]vny!://www.peter-william-holden.com/installations/autogene/autogene_mov.html [/a]and the [a href="vny!://www.peter-william-holden.com/installations/autogene/autogene_mov.html"]Watch Autogene![/a] links don't.
Doh! _mov indeed!
Fall on your face with those [a href="vny!://www.lyricsfreak.com/p/pixies/108978.html"]bad links[/a]...
Oops, please forgive me, that was no flame...
LOL..... I wish I could find an umbrella that could take that kind of abuse.
