...... when you were little? I had me a good old book of stamps then I graduated briefly to fantasy cards and now I collect diapers.
Car models and books that contain info on space.(//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/2.gif)
Give me an example of a book on space that you collected, TC.
Like the universe and planets..
Right. Were you a Star Trek fan then?
(//vny!://i14.tinypic.com/2a9xmyf.jpg)
Nah.. Star Wars..(//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/2.gif)
No kidding! I love Star Wars too. Love epsidoes IV, V and VI. Hated the first three. Wayyy to go, Mr. George Lucas.
You should look up a thread on DV about Star Wars. That was fun. CK's nuts about Star Wars too.
oh.. what page?
Hmm. You know I've been trying to find it on DV so I could bump it up for you. Can't seem to find it. Drats.
It's the one long thread on Star Wars between CK, Lindsy, tenkani and myself. That was way back when Episode 3 (I think) aired in the theatres.
We were discussing the merits of Darth Vader's acting ability. You know, the one when he screams 'noooooooooooooooooooooooo' like a sissy upon discovering his body is virtually all metal.
I collected stamps too, Lise. I used to send away to all these stamp companies.....loved it. (I still have my childhood stamp book, but now we've added hubby's fathers collection to it.....although I don't do much with it)
Now I don't have a specific thing that I collect, but I love all things Victorian, and antiques of any kind. I love miniatures. Miniature anything, but particularly antique miniatures.
That's so cool, PC. Maybe one day our stamps will be worth $1,000,000 or something like that, eh?
Minature everything is so adorable. I love to see these minature furniture, especially in an old Victorian house. I don't think I can have them around our place though. Lise Jr. might take it into her head to start playing with them.
I used to collect baseball cards. Then Star Wars cards. That set me up perfectly for the cardboard crack known as Magic: Teh Gathering. I kind of went on a bender on them things for a while.
What didnt I collect.
Hockey Cards, Desert Storm Cards, Desert Shield Cards.
Model Rockets (estees ones that actually fly, after the first two I built blew up my parents 'tried' to encourage me to more safer hobbies. So I built ten more bigger ones).
GI Joes, my friend the ebay freak sold all my old toys on ebay for me.. Im just under 2k richer.
Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars.
Still have most of the stuff too.
Stamps (I still do and have well over 20,000), and playing cards
I collected all sorts of crap from the traditional to unconventional...
What I can recall off the top of my head
- stamps (had 7-9 albums - can't remember)
- post cards (some of them were really old)
- FDCs (philatelists would be familiar with that acronym: First Day Covers)
- candy wrapper foils
- seashells
- marbles
- keychains (had close to 100, had them displayed on the wall)
- copper plates (didn't have too many of those, but they were also on my walls)
There were probably a few more I can't recall right now...
Then I became a minimalist and freed myself of all those attachments. [A onclick="addImg('icon/icon_smile_cool.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"](//vny!://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/icon_smile_cool.gif)[/A]
Wow. Interesting read, guys. Thanks!
I'm an incurable pack rat and nerd at heart, so I start "collecting" things pretty easily. Last summer Mrs FC found, at a yard sale, an old timers' foreign stamp collection all meticulously organized, priced etc. We now use them to great effect in collages. She also found me a Canadian coin collection - something I never thought too much about before, but now I have a cool collection.
And books. I am loathe to get rid of a decent book.
And don't even get me started on Warhammer figures. yeesh.
Next, Mrs FC and I have decided we want to start being art collectors. We've seen plenty of stuff around town from young artists for under a hundred bucks. So why not start slowly building a collection (y'know, with all that spare money I have lying around)
Hah. Great thread. I haven't thought about this stuff in years :)
Rusty nails. I was big on collecting rusty nails when I was small. Don't ask.
Garbage Pail Kids stickers/cards.
GI Joe figures.
Star Trek stuffs (great Kirk pic BTW Lise!) I had a pair of life-sized Kirk and Spock posters. Wh00t!
Then later Magic cards and Warhammer figurines.
Coins.
X-Men comics.
Starting an art collection is a good idea FC. I have no walls, so this wouldn't work for me....lol
What are Warhammer figurines ? IMNTK
Little dolls what fight wif each other (//vny!://www.motleycrow.com/ImageHost/icon_smile_sleepy.gif)
I used to collect stickers and stamps. I remember trading stickers wtih my neighbors. Oh, that was fun.
Now, I collect things that I know will be worth something in the future. I have a Hot Wheel miniature car of the Ford Model and a 1971 Carmaro. I also have some hockey cards that I think may be worth something.
FC! Fellow packrat. <crooning> Good to see someone else with the same vices. I still have my schoolbooks and stuff from kindygarten and elementary school.
Tenkani! I forgot about teh garbage pail kids! I have a bunch of those somewhere too! Im going looking for them, Well after I finish the xmas lights.

CAN I ask about rusty nails? My dad has a collection (no seriously) of old nails he collected when he was younger, some of them are super super old trianglar cut ones from teh early 1800's.
EDIT: corrected you name, didnt get what you meant at first.
As long as you don't call me tenkanus...
Aaaaanyway, thinking back into the dim recesses of history, I think I was digging in my backyard as a tot and uncovered an old rusty nail, which I decided to keep. I kept digging and found another one OMGWTF I'VE STRUCK IT RICH, I said to myself and before I knew it I had a box full of them (must have found a rusty nail vein or something by pure chance).
What was going on in my wee reptile brain that made me want to hoard a bunch of old nails?? Only Lord Xenu knows, and he's not very talkative at the moment (but just wait...).
I still have my X-Files comics. Must be worth.......................nothing. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
Hey, my hubby collected X-Men comics. I love reading them!!
(//vny!://www.motleycrow.com/ImageHost/xmedddn.jpg)
LOL. Juggernaut!!! (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/7.gif)

Pokemon cards. Everyone my age had those back then - and if they say they didn't, they're lying.
Hmm.... out of curiosity, just how old are you, Marik? (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
I didn't, Marik. But I think your 'back then' is different than MY 'back then'.
i had a bottlecap collection that my mom threw out.
i used to have tonnes of old hockey cards that were probably worth quite a bit of money that i threw out or damaged by playing with them.
i still have a gretzky rookie card tho :)
i still have a few comics, and a whole bunch of hockey cards, and my small stamp collection and a few coins.
I'm 16.
Dang, Marik! You're like the baby of the group and I thought SD was the youngest! (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
collected stamps, coins, stickers, matchboxes, keychains, perfume samples, pins.... yes i'm a pack rat (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/7.gif)
Perfume samples! Are you a gal? (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/8.gif)
Speaking of perfume bottles, at one point in my mid-late teens I had over 20 bottles of after shave and eau de cologne bottles...
I shall probably have over 20 by the time Christmas is over - as I have a beard, none of them will be opened.

Cool! 'bless' Im not the only one! Well, mines kinda trimmed in random ways depending on my mood, but still!
EDIT: Crap, cant bless more than once in an hour.
So I did it for you, Russ.
Thanks, the pair of you - I'll now reciprocate: if I've not already done so in advance (note the crazy logic of that sentence).

Thanks kitten. Ill have to wait a bit then re reciprocate. lol, thats like your post gopher!

Our descendants will no doubt exhibit them to their contemporaries.
First I will need to acquire descendants, which may prove difficult!

A trivial consideration, ma'am. Maybe Kaycee will go forth and multiply on your behalf.
Not at my age, it isn't!
One more thing... a Japanese comic called "Great Teacher Onizuka".
vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Teacher_Onizuka
Very funny stuff. Much better than the crappy-ass Naruto comic that everyone is into these days (Naruto is about ninjas... but they're already cool so that should be left alone).

Would you believe I actually watched the whole series? (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif) If you like anime too check out Samurai X. Good stuff.

Uh talk to my two female cousins.. it wasnt too hard for them. Ive been told by my relatives to stop being so negative and derogatory to them. Its not their fault (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Love/21.gif)
What?!?!? I'm jealous! I only watched (the anime) the second half of it. Watched all the live-action shows though.
GTO is awesome. I watched it from the beginning with English subtitles. I prefer to watch them in Japanese. More authentic. Try looking around from eBay, they usually have some rather good stuff.
Haven't had much time watching anime with the kids and all but the most recent one I've watched is Graveyard of the Fireflies. Good stuff. Will make you weep.
Another anime series that's good: check out Hellsing.... but uhm.... you're a minor. Are you sure you're able to watch? (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif) In any case, don't tell anyone I recommend that.
