Title: McDonald's tries to patent sandwich-making
Post by: TehBorken on Nov 26 06 12:05
You knew this was coming, right?  I mean, really, it was inevitable.

McDonald's tries to patent sandwich-making
McDonald's has filed a patent application in Europe and the US for making sandwiches:    [blockquote] The burger company says owning the 'intellectual property rights' would help its hot deli sandwiches look and taste the same at all of its restaurants. It also wants to cut down on the time needed to put together a sandwich, thought to have been dreamt up by the Earl of Sandwich in 1762. [/p] The 55-page patent, which has been filed in the US and Europe, covers the 'simultaneous toasting of a bread component'. [/p]Garnishes of lettuce, onions and tomatoes, as well as salt, pepper and ketchup, are inserted into a cavity in a 'sandwich delivery tool'. [/p]The 'bread component' is placed over the cavity and the assembly tool is inverted to tip out the contents. Finally, the filling is placed in the 'bread component'. [/p] It explains: 'Often the sandwich filling is the source of the name of the sandwich; for example, ham sandwich.'   [/p][/blockquote]  [a href="vny!://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=26183&in_page_id=34"]Link[/a]

I agree, they can try but they better not be able to, they might as well try to patent fast food hamburgers, or at that point why not hamburgers themselves!

They should consider 'heart clogging' food for their patent application.

'Often the sandwich filling is the source of the name of the sandwich; for example, ham sandwich.'

Now THERE'S a revelation.  If this patent goes through, with I still be able to put egg salad into my bread component and call it a peanut butter sandwich ??????  Or will I be obligated to call it an egg salad sandwich.

I know, it's genuinely incredible. Who could have guessed that putting ham in a sandwich would make it a "ham sandwich"?

I, for one, welcome out new McDonaldian Sandwich Overlords!

If they really do patent sandwich making, does this mean we'll have to pay them a royalty every time we make our own?

Perhaps just give them the finger every time you make one.

Great idea - I'll just be careless as I spread the butter.
