Title: Drivers who speed
Post by: Lise on Nov 25 06 08:05
What the frack is wrong with these a**holes who drives like crazy on the street??? Man, it's not enough that you speed but to mow down these children on a sidewalk of all places. Makes my blood boil to know that there are reckless drivers out there who speed like crazy. WATCH WHERE YOU ARE GOING, you idiots!

Excuse the ranting but I just see red when I see things like this happening on our streets.
Car mows down 4 kids after East Van crash

Injuries serious, not life-threatening

Jonathan Fowlie and Darah Hansen, Vancouver Sun
There was the sound of a loud horn, the thud of impact and then -- horror.

After a blue Honda Civic was in a collision with an SUV in east Vancouver Friday afternoon it careered onto a sidewalk where it hit three young children and a teenager.

The children -- one of whom was being pushed in a stroller and appeared to be only two years old -- were dragged into the playground of a nearby school when the car rammed through one fence and came to rest against a second.

School officials say two of the children were students at nearby Grandview elementary and were walking home when they were hit. Witnesses believe both of the children were boys.

as far as i know, this was an complete accident. there was no excessive speed involved. it was just a matter of one suv hitting a smaller honda and the honda plowed into the children. i think the suv ran a stop sign.

Yeah I know, in the news down here some mother tried to out run a train killed her and her two kids. I don't get why people think they can out run a train. Train always wins.

Then I was on IMDB on Michael Richards forum and some idiot posted a link to a girl who had an accident in Southern California. Some 18 year old girl in a Porsche she was going 100mph and hit a toll booth.  Stupid me had to click on the link and it showed pictures of her body and crash scene.  Never should have done that, clicking on the link wasn't the best idea.  Lets just say the funeral was a closed casket.

But I haven't even thought about driving fast since then. Actually I haven't thought about driving fast in a while. Its stupid.

I think your right kingy, I remember something about that early. The news were showing the place where it happened and then interviewing some guy that was talking about the stop sign and the lack of view from some trees or something so it was a blind corner. It showed the car off the road with tracks through a fence if I remember.

Yup I'd agree with you but we're not at the stage yet of having cars being driven on auto pilot through GPS although my cousins tractor runs on GPS all he has to do is turn the tractor at the end of a row on the field and the tractor does the rest.

98,000 loonies

Most of the people on here are Canadians so it makes sense to put on here what the prices are in Canada instead of US prices.

Since this is the driving thread. I wasn't speeding but I escaped certain death this morning. For some reason I'm not seeing things as well as I used to. Well okay here's what happend.  There's this windy road that forks halfway through it. If you go left the road continues if you go right you go right into a barrier thats protecting you from a 100 metre fall of a cliff right next to a house.  I went right.  I was going the speed limit which was somewhere between 40 and 60kph but the second I realized I went the wrong way and was looking at certain doom I slammed on the brakes. I stopped just before the barrier. Said to myself 'good to know the brakes work' but I was shaken.  I've got perfect vision and yet I couldn't see that the road was out ahead. This isn't the first time in a while something like this has happend to me. I'm 20 years old I shouldn't be having eye sight problems.

You should get your night vision checked.  I assume you were driving in the dark???
Title: Re: Drivers who speed
Post by: Sportsdude on Nov 26 06 05:02
Yeah I was driving in the dark. I had the brights on but I also had map lights on so I could read the route book to tell me where to throw the paper. I can see when the lights inside my car is on its very bright and I have to squint.  I can't see anything lately. Ran over a curb I couldn't see a week ago that put me back 700 bucks then yesterday I didn't see the dumpster behind me and backed into it. ugh.

Sportsdude....you need to be careful.  You're going to get hurt badly.  I don't want to sound critical, but it doesn't sound like a vision problem so much as it sounds like you have other things on your mind.     Not being able to read what's on the dumpster could be a visual problem....but not seeing the dumpster at all seems more like a case of not paying attention.

Title: Re: Drivers who speed
Post by: Sportsdude on Nov 26 06 06:09
Well I was paying attention. But for some reason on the dumpster thing I just didn't know I was that close and a light from a building blinded me.  Same thing happend when I jumped the curb foggy windows, brights reflective off of a car, the indoor lights makes it hard to see and lights tend to blind me.

Other then that I've come close to hitting deer. Now they just sit on the road and I just honk at them to get out of the way.

Well, be careful before you wound yourself.  Like Kitten said, get your vision checked for night blindness for goodness sake.
Title: Re: Drivers who speed
Post by: Sportsdude on Nov 26 06 06:32
yeah I'm getting really careful out there. Good thing I don't have to work for a month.

Hey bud, yeah get your vision checked. Im having a harder time seeing at night as well.. i got some eyedrops and a new perscription.

Ive backed up into a pole and a dumpster as well to be honest, just put a ding on my trucks bumper, but I want paying attention. My mind was on other things...

Best of luck bud, stay safe on the roads
Title: Re: Drivers who speed
Post by: Sportsdude on Nov 26 06 10:07
Yeah here I was paying attention they just came out of nowhere. I didn't see it. Car's dirty, back wind shield wiper is broken so maybe that was it. dunno.

The only time where I've caused something out of not paying attention was when I've ran into other peoples yards hit mail boxs and stuff when I was trying to read the route book while driving.  You've got a second to look at it and if you can't read it and stare at it you aren't paying attention when your driving.
I've got a dangerous job and I know it.  I almost got hit by a car a couple of weeks ago.  Wouldn't shock me if I did get hit one of these days.
