Transparency International, which is an anti-corruption watchdog, has ranked Haiti at Nr. 1 of most corrupt countries.

Guinea
Sudan
DR Congo
Chad
Bangladesh
Uzbekistan
Equatorial Guinea
The least corrupt countries OTOH rank as follows :
Finland
Iceland
New Zealand
Denmark
Singapore
Sweden
Switzerland
Norway
Australia
Netherlands
Obviously there is a link between corruption and poverty, as stated by TI's chairwoman, Huguette Labelle (corruption among officials as opposed to poverty among the population, as stated by myself, as needless to say there is no poverty at all among those countries' high-ranking officials).
In 71 of the countries which were studied, corruption was seen to be "rampant". Brazil, Tunisia and the US have worsened in this respect in the past year.

My cousin once did some undercover investigative journalism in Haiti, and ended up in a Haitian jail. He's lucky he's not dead. He now reports sports news in Montreal.
I find lists like that ok, but that one is in the dark. Wheres nigeria. Its worse that Equatorial Guinee, and EG is at the bottom of the list. Shows you how bad that list is.
I myself am somewhat surprised at seeing Iran up there in the Top three. You can say all you want about Iran, but you can't put it into the same bag as those third world countries also in the Top Ten. The Persian civilization is a very, very ancient one and it is now to all extents and purposes led by clerics which seems to me to exclude corruption to a high degree. Or am I just being naive ?
OTOH, I suppose you are right about Nigeria, Russ. Just remember the way they have of quasi-industrializing the production of those scam e-mails they are sending out to gullible people in industrialized countries...

Journalism is a dangerous profession. Each year, journalists are getting killed while out there investigating and reporting. There are those who don't like journalists because of the propensity of many media for reporting scandals, preferrably mixed up with sex and big money, but there are serious and good people out there, I am sure.
It's like going after pawns, when youre supposed to be after the big bosses.
