Title: VERY, very weird, but fascinating
Post by: Mutilated Mind on Oct 17 06 11:40
vny!://www.woolythinking.com/html/darkroomIE.html?o=0o

Watch it before you surf to that webpage. It's a game, some kind of electronic/high-tech/otherworldly/alien/satanic mystery puzzle which is intriguing and addictive, but I would advise you to turn off untrusted scripts/inactive-x controls your Internet Explorer security settings. Just to be sure.

And use your headset.

What did I type ? "inactive-x controls" ?
I must have been dreaming...
That was meant to be "inactive-x controls" naturally...

Anyway, there is an interesting note when you go to the "Hall of Fame" (which you can access by going to the startpage vny!://www.woolythinking.com and clicking on its link).

It says :
"Note! Those seeking to enter their name the Hall are advised to turn OFF security and firewall settings which may prevent your message from leaving your computer!"

and such an invitation to turn off anything which keeps your computer secure looks just very, very suspicious to me... but I trust people on this forum are, by nature, intelligent and mature enough to know what they are doing...  :)

OK... I did type "inactive-x" and yet it shows as "inactive-x" again. Someone trying to have a bit of fun ?
Let's try again... that was meant to be "inactive-x controls" and nothing else.

Very funny... my guess is this is one of those trolls who replied lately to my posts.

Let's put it this way : anyone who knows IE and its security problems knows about those scripts and controls. The ones with "X" in them. Just tick them off in your security settings, the untrusted ones. OK ?

It must be an extremely popular and addictive game. There are no less than 48 pages full of people who put their names into that "Hall of Fame"...!

Now I wonder why nobody don't like me. Just do it.[/DIV]

Letting Active-X run in your browser is a very, VERY stupid thing to do.

Why don't you save the hackers a lot of trouble and just post your social security number, your banking information, and your PIN numbers here instead?

True, but the mere fact of something being stupid is not sufficient to prevent me from doing it, neener.

No, really, I am serious.
Those few who posted using a funny variant of my nick, you have to know that I typed several times "inactive-x" and took special care after the first time to make sure that's what I did, and still it showed in the post as "inactive-x".

The only explanation I see is someone had a bit of fun with some kind of trojan or I don't know what. Probably thought it would make me look crazy or something ?

As a sidenote : any "Mutilated Mind" post after the fifth one, was NOT posted by myself (except this one of course !) :)

It's still doing its thing.

Exactly. The only inactive-x controls you should allow are the signed ones and still you should be cautious.

As a sidenote, jvascript in your browser is fairly unsafe too. It's better to turn it off when a website doesn't expressly ask for it to be turned on.

You can't post that word here; it's filtered out and then changed as part of our anti-exploit code. The same thing happens for shockwave file extensions, jscript calls, and a bunch of other stuff.

See above.

And how are we to know when it's the "real" you or an imposter? Hmmm? Maybe this post that I'm replying to was actually made by an imposter.
