Cornell University researchers are reporting what appears to be a [a href="vny!://www.johnson.cornell.edu/faculty/profiles/waldman/autpaper.html"]statistically significant relationship between autism rates and television watching[/a] by children under the age of 3. The researchers studied autism incidence in California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington state.
They found that as cable television became common in California and Pennsylvania beginning around 1980, childhood autism rose more in the counties that had cable than in the counties that did not. They further found that in all the Western states, the more time toddlers spent in front of the television, the more likely they were to exhibit symptoms of autism disorders. The Cornell study represents a potential bombshell in the autism debate.
Crap. There goes my cheap-ass babysitter.
Give your kids toys and play soft music for them. That should keep them quiet and happy, until they do a study proving that music and toys cause something dangerous to happen. Should be one of those coming along any day now.
Actually, my little girl's not too bad with viewing the telly. Is not at all interested in watching except for Dora the Explorer (what is it that kids find this Spanish girl so interesting?) and a few shows.
With regards to toys, you'd be amazed at how fast they lose interest in them. Pick a few toys, play for a couple of minutes then discard then they want your attention. There is no toy out there that is the perfect toy that will engage a toddler for hours upon hours. I really wish there's one though. The person who invents this will be a millionaire, I can guarantee you that.
What is needed is a nice soft robot Nanny. That would solve a lot of problems.

Lol. I myself almost never watch TV....there's rarely anything on that interests me, so much of it is just insipid crap. I watch movies once in a while, but regular TV just doesn't do it for me.
Oh yes, Ms. kitten!! Would love a robot nanny and I'd pick any of the 911 Nanny on tv. Actually, come to think of it, I would rather the nanny come in the shape of Mr. Brad Pitt.
I watched the news when I was a toddler. Didn't like the whole dora the explorer stuff.

Yeah, I'd like oneof those for me, lol. [a href="vny!://realdoll.com/"]These things[/a] are just too expensive. (caution, NSFW)
You could always rent it out when you aren't using it, TehBorken. You might defray some of the cost that way.
Kitten! I'm ashamed of you - just what are you suggesting?

Hmmmmm.....no, I better not. I was thinking "bachelor parties", but noooooo.....Bad idea. Although when I add it up, it comes to about a 1/10th what my ex-wife cost me.
eh, I prefer the real thing. Real people always better then robots.
I was going to cite the government to prove you wrong, but then I thought about it and....
Since robots don't require sleep, you could get a lot of use out of them, one way or another. Of course I'm simply referring to housework, babysitting, entertaining your friends while you are busy. Perfectly innocent occupations. lol
those robot vacuums are kinda dumb in my opinion.
Heck, I'm for anything that will do my housework, robot or no robot.
I like to lift things.
My boy loves Madagascar. He can't get enough.
If I hear Chris Rock (the zebra) say "Crack-a-lackin'" one more time, I will......
ok CK..breathe *in...out...in...out...*
LOL.
Meh, I watched the Berlin Wall fall, Tiemin Square, Bosnian war, the Russian coup (always thought that was cool russian army helicopters missiling the russian parliament, lol), Waco, Oklahoma City, WTC in '92, oh well friends would watch cartoons, I was like you're missing history! lol

HAHA! You were old enough to watch the Berlin Wall fall!? I was, but I am an old geezer!
Yeah of course I've got it on tape. That was on of my favourite moments in my life because of family history I was 2 years old but I remember seeing Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings standing on the wall everybody singing having a good time. Pieces of the oppressive thing is in my backyard, ironically we use it as a barrier to stop kids from driving on to my yard, lol.
clarify I was 3 and 4 months lol.
haha! I was about 11 or 12 I guess?! I also remember the space shuttle blowing up in 86. But I was a comic book nerd then, Groo and X-men!

Hmmmm...yes, I remember that...I was installing an x-ray spectrometer (the first in their department!) at the University of WA and my customer came in with a look of horror on his face. He said it was a "black day in the history of space travel". He explained the shuttle had "blown up" right after liftoff....we went and watched the replays for the next couple of hours. I'll never forget that.
The ironic thing was that his study included some advanced materials science stuff that was going to be used in later shuttle experiments, including the HR tiles and micrometeorite investigation. His program was all but sunk.
that is wild tehborken!
crazy, the places we remember we were during certain events of our lives.
I remember the moment I found out Kurt Cobain died. I was at a friends house, TV was on, but sound was off, we had the stereo on playing Smashing Pumpkins to be exact, as we played air hockey. Then the caption on the screen came on as breaking news from King 5 news or something. (Seattle TV channel, seen in Vancouver). Kurt Cobain found dead at Lake Washington home.

Errr, who??
(Just kidding, I know who he is. Ummm, I mean, "was".)
haha! Yes, he was just a rock star, but I found him rather interesting.
I remember he said he wore a red dress once into a pub in a sawmill town,(by Aberdeen or somewhere over there), just to piss off the redneck locals! WOOT!!
