Title: HORRORS !!!!!
Post by: P.C. on Oct 07 06 08:22
How many of you have seen some of the OLD Horror Classics ?

I was channel surfing a couple nights ago, and saw an OLD movie from WAYYYYYY back.

They sure hold their own, against the newer horror flicks.  It was Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte.

I'm not a big horror movie fan, but some of those oldies seem to 'by-pass' a lot of the splatter scenes, with 'psychological horror'.  Although they were pretty gorry (sp?) for their time, much of the terror was left to your imagination.....or implied in a less gorry way.  (like Psycho)

With Hallowe'en approaching, it started me thinking about some of those scary movies.  I STILL can't watch the newer fright movies, but remember some of the old 'goodies'.

Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte (Betty Davis)

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (another Betty Davis)

The Birds (Alfred Hitchcock)

Anyone have any others to add ???

I can't even watch those that you mentioned.  I have vivid dreams afterwards and wake up terrified.  I don't really need that now.

Well, I'm not sure if I can watch them now either, Kitten.  I've become quite wimpy.

I watched these when I was very young, and of course they were very thrilling as you put on your brave front, in front of your friends.

Maybe if I watched them with a drink in one hand and a nitro pill in the other, with one eye closed, I could get part way through one, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The Birds?!?!? Are you kidding me?!?! I found that movie entertaining!! ... and I was 11 when I watched it.  Sure, it was really good back then, but now it seems like it's almost over-acted. (If I remember correctly, the lady made a really big deal out of the birds flying around the gas station)
I suggest you go check out psychological horror from Asia if you want a real scare.  "Kairo" (remade as "Pulse" here) was really well done, and if you like a mix of jump scares and psychological horror, check out "Shutter" (Thai film) - that was really good as well. I'll keep you guys posted as I still have a few horror movies to go through...

The Birds... scary? I thought it was a tad slow at the start but like Marik, I found it quite entertaining.

I can't think of any old classic horror movies that scare the crap outta me but the recent ones are quite gory and disgusting. I'm no horror fan... I even flatly refuse to go into a horror theme ride.

The only "classic" horror movie on my list that I can remember is The Exorcist. Sh..... t - that was one scary movie and I can't watch it again.
