The head of Canada's national police force has publicly apologised to a man deported to Syria after being falsely accused of terrorism. [p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Maher Arar was deported by US customs agents to Syria after Canadian police labelled him an Islamic extremist. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli said his force had made major mistakes. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] A public inquiry found Mr Arar had been caught up in a hunt for terror suspects after the 2001 attacks on the US. [!-- E SF --] [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Mr Zaccardelli says he has no intention of resigning over the affair despite calls for him to do so. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] He said: "I wish to take this opportunity to express publicly to you and to your wife and to your children how truly sorry I am for whatever part the actions of the RCMP may have contributed to the terrible injustices that you experienced and the pain that you and your family endured." [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] False information [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] He also said he fully accepted the 23 recommendations made by the report of a public inquiry into the Arar case. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Published last week, this heavily criticised the police force for spreading misleading and false information about the Syrian-born Canadian. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] The inquiry said claims linking Mr Arar to al-Qaeda probably contributed to his deportation by US authorities to Syria in 2002. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] In Damascus, he was imprisoned for a year and tortured before Canadian officials finally secured his release. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] In his appearance before a parliamentary committee, Mr Zaccardelli said his officials tried to correct some of that information before Mr Arar was deported. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Washington has said little about the Arar case. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Canada's public safety minister said he has brought it again to the attention of the US homeland security chief, Michael Chertoff.[!-- E BO --] [/p]

Hardly a full and frank admission that they f*cked up, big time, like a bunch of dangerously stupid buffoons. That's like those bullshit apologies you sometimes hear when some jackass slags and slanders somebody all over the place and then says something like, "Duh, I'm sorry if my remarks may have resulted in somebody somewhere maybe taking offence, duh..."

If somebody takes responsibility for something they did, fine, that's the first step toward regaining (or earning for the first time) a measure of respect. But Zaccardelli has done nothing of the sort. Typical RSiMPs. To paraphrase Melvin van Peebles, they're "droolin' when (they) move in for the kill....salty when (they) get the bill."
They won't admit to anything while there's a lawsuit pending. They have lots of practice avoiding blame.
Oh course Mr. No Emotion who doesn't care about Canadians Harper won't say a thing.

Yep. It's the same as the old "Mistakes were made" statement. Yes, mistakes were made, but not by anyone- it's as if the mistakes just miraculously happened and no person or people were involved. "Mistakes were made. And we're so sorry that they were made, tra-la-la-la-la, but you can't blame me..."
Another thing, the pathetic Canadian media were making it sound like it was "Evil America's" fault. Yes, the US deported him, even though he had a Canadian passport. The USA was following false and misleading information supplied by the RCMP.
As a Canadian citizen, the U.S.A. should have deported him back to Canada, not Syria.
Canada needs to deport Harper back to Alberta. lol.
Can't wait for Rae to crush him silly in the next election.
Agreed. He's cutting back on essential programs while there is around 13 billion in surplus. The ones who will be hurt most are the ones who are most disadvantaged and really need help.
Oh he's just started on the social programs. God forbid he gets a majority. He'll be cutting left right and centre and me sotgwpdt views do not stand for such a farce for a man who says he's a believer in Christ. The same christ that if you read the new testament is like the first Communist Manifesto.

What programs is he cutting? He seems to be paying down the debt and bringing Canada into the black. I heard about program cuts, but not sure what they are? Some "programs" brought on by the Liberals are slush funds that are useless!
Sports, "deport" Harper back to Alberta? Alberta is part of Canada, and proud of it! No matter what your communist propaganda tells you, that is true.
"mistakes were made."
Yeah, that was ol' Ronnie Ray-Gun wasn't it? Over the Iran Contra snafu? I think he went on to say something like "...yes, we keep praying that someday we might live in some better world, where we won't have to answer questions like these ever again."

Canadians fully remember what a mess Bob Rae made of Ontario when he was premier.
They're not about to let him screw up the rest of the country. Rae was and still is one of the most hated politicians in Ontario. And since it's Ontario votes who decide federal elections...
Harper's doing a great job and riding high in the polls right now. No need to mess with success.
Next stop: Majority.
looks like sports gets Canadian media from one source and one source only!???
