Which three features guarantee to give you an instantaneous bad impression of another person?
Mine:
A Bombastic Attitude
Foul Language
Body Odour
Overdoing on foul language
Whiner
A Snob
1. People who don't 'light up' (or at the very least, react) when greeted.
2. Aloofness. (probably the same as number 1)
3. 'Know-it-alls' or people who use their professions jargon, knowing you don't know what they're talking about.
I've always thought that the over-use of jargon was used to mask the fact that the speaker had very little knowledge of anything else (especially his/her own language).
Complainers.
People who check themselves out in windows.
Anyone that wipes their nose with the back of their hand or doesn't cover when they sneeze.
Anyone that makes a sexist comment to me before they know how I will react (people who know me know I'll laugh, but that's earned with familiarity and trust.)
Cheesy one liners.
Boogers in the nose.
Bra straps showing.
Basically anything that tells me they don't take care of themselves. That shows me that they don't care so why would they care about me?
Racism or bigotry.
Oh, and people who think it's a sign of strength to try to kill you with a hand shake. C'mon, we don't have to prove how tough we are. Just give it to me firm, then back off!
Flip side? The limp wristed shake. Ew.
Bra straps showing...really?
When I wear a tank or something that shows more of my shoulders, I wear the bra with the straps because I absolutely find the strapless bras way too uncomfortable. I see many girls showing the strap and thought that it looked okay.
From a man's point of view, they don't. I agree with Some Chick.
Really Gopher? Guys don't like to see the bra straps?
Can'r speak for everyone, but most of those I know don't.
I'll ask around during the next few days, just to confirm this or otherwise.
Bad impressions aren't necessarily 'deal breakers' for me. It's not unusual to get to know someone AFTER a bad first impression, only to find out they're nothing like the first impression you had of them.
On the other hand, racism and bigotry are definite deal breakers. There's NO interest whatsoever for me to want to know anything more about such a person. Anyone who gives the 'impression' that they're racist, IS racist.
The worst are those sorts of people who come out with speeches such as the following, "Well, I'm as racist as the next man, but even I......"
Exactly Gopher, or the "I'm not racist BUT".....then they tell a racist joke. I find most often, regardless of the topic, that everything berfore a 'BUT' is usually a lie.
As for bra straps, if I'm wearing a tank, I won't wear it if the tank straps don't go over my bra straps (they have to go right over them even if they don't cover them completely). The bra strap has to be the same colour as well. Black tank, black bra, red tank, red bra. And if I am wearing something with a T-back, I wear a bra with adjustable straps so I can hide it.
It's not something I'd given much thought until I saw a stylist talking about it a few years ago and pointing out that bra straps showing simply said "I don't care". I'd never thought of it that way, and I do now.
As for racism and bigotry, I dumped a guy I was dating because of that. He'd constantly use derogatory terms. In 30 minutes of a visit with my mom I heard him say 10 DIFFERENT terms to denote race. My mother and I both, at exactly the same time, turned and I said "Do you know how stupid you sound?" and my mom said "What are you, a Nazi?"
He hadda go buh bye. His only redemption was that he had the decency to blush.

That's very interesting. Personally, I wouldn't do it because others thought that I had the "I don't care" attitude, but the way I dress is important to me (first impressions)...hmmm, I think that I may be contradicting myself.... so, I'll have to look into this to find out more thoughts on this. I've been told that it's okay. I think that it looks okay as well. I do agree with you on the same shirt same color bra deal. You can't have a white strap with a black tank. That's a fashion faux-pas, most definitely.
I'm not a fan of the visible bra straps either. Suggesting that showing your underwear is 'fashionable' probably came from those same designers that make those hats that need training wheels, and dresses that have PVC pipe in them. It DOES have that 'I don't care if I'm put together before I go out of the house' look. However, it's not something that would give me a bad impression of someone.
Does for me. Ditto the thong showing.
I was in a disposable job being trained and this woman in front of me was leaning forward at her desk with this tattered, grey thong hanging out for all to see. It was not remotely sexy and just made me think she couldn't really be all that bright if she wasn't aware of how bad it looked.
Same applies to bra straps. I don't know how many times I've seen greying, fraying straps on shoulders that just appear not to care.
If you're going to share your underwear with the rest of us, at least make sure it's clean and new.

If you don't care if it shows, I agree.....at least make sure it's perfectly clean or new. As far as the undies......wear them UNDER. I suspect there's a reason they call it UNDERwear.
I have a friend who always has stuff hanging out.....she DOESN'T care what people think AT ALL. She couldn't be kinder or bigger hearted if she tried. She's witty and funny and I would truly have missed something by not having her in my life had I let that first impression influence me.
(And shifting the topic a tad, what's with people who come to job interviews wearing the same thing they'd wear to the beach or a night club.)
rofl.....that's just poor planning. rofl
See people that don't understand first impressions make inappropriate choices for themselves.
And I also have friends that don't give a good impression at all. One of them is a 375 pound man that sweats if he walks five feet. But I love him to death, however, people take one look at him and peg him as a stupid slob.
It's not really about whether or not your first impression of someone is right or wrong, it's more about the basic understanding that we all have them, and if you want yours to be better, you just need to be a little more self aware and take care of those areas you have control over.
Now, THESE straps I might show.

ooo...that's a very pretty strap. I haven't seen that before.
Thanks for your input girls. So, no strap showing no matter how clean the strap look, right?
If the strap is really obviously different from the top, it shouldn't show. If you have a strap that is fairly similar in shape, width, colour, it can peek out, but should align with the top strap exactly.
I want to get some of those jeweled straps. Or even the clear plastic ones aren't as bad. That will take care of a lot of issues I have with certain shirts. I have a pretty decent bra collection but there are only two that work with the tanks.
People say a lot about what they want their first impression to be. Piercings, tattoos, hair, clothes, makeup... We're ALL trying to make impressions of some kind.
My idea of a good impression might totally gag a goth chick.
Where can one find that fancy bra in the picture? I don't think that I've seen it before....
Where do you buy your bras? La Senza? I find their lingerie/panties/bras are bad in quality. Same applies to La Vie en Rose.
I buy most of my day to day stuff there. I'm a C and they're one of the first stores I found where I could buy cute/sexy looking stuff that fit and didn't look like my mother's underwear.
Matter of fact, I need a few things. I'm gonna do that today!
Jacob lingerie has a really good sale on right now, if you're interested. They have some ok lingerie items.
Anybody who starts doing racist slurs
Anyone who calls me a nazi because I'm german and have a german sounding last name
Anyone who looks like a redneck and talks like one
Anyone who puts pro-life or nra stickers on the bumper of their car
Anyone who uses racist slurs to speak about other races
Anyone who talks like they are on Laguna Beach
Anyone who watches MTV.
Short short pants, tank top t-shirt that reads "Say hello to these puppies", flip flops, and giant sun glasses that cover the entire face and chewing gum or smoking.
Anyone who puts a wing on there car and or a giant over sized muffler that makes there car sound like its taking a crap.

spitting in public
body odour
picking nose on bus
swearing
smoking crack in public or anywhere
pants that hang around the waist
people who don't pay bus fare and say they just need a ride
people who gawk
rap music played loud in a little low rider import cars
vietnamese coffee shops along kingsway
What the hell is wrong with Vietnamese coffee shops along the road?!?!?!?!?! I love them!!!
For me, it's a no brainer: hallitosis and bad crowns - can't help but stare at a person's teeth. Tells me a lot about them.
teeth eh?
Like how?
Not crowded teeth in general but badly fitted crowns. Like the color's so off that it just glares at you or the fact that the crown is so bad you can see the a big chunk of the margins. Can't help it.
im pretty tolerant of most people to a certain degree but...
'boys' that wear their pants almost around their ankles
can somebody explain this to me? looks like they took a dump in their pants.
