unbelievable. So now instead of 4 its now 3, technically 2.
CBC - government
CTV - bell
Globa- CanWest
Chum- bell
Another sad day for canadian democracy.
I hope the CRTC blocks this.
Oh yeah, I saw this on the news a couple hours ago. Wonder what's going to happen to those music channels / City TV (I think they're owned by CHUM... correct me if I'm wrong) And I don't find CBC all that bad... they've got a few good shows.
Apparently they want to get rid of the A-Channel networks. What does that mean I don't know.
From the article: BGM said it expects to divest the A-Channel stations.
CHUM announced today that it is cutting 281 positions at television stations across the country because of economic pressures.
A-Channel ... hardly watch that channel myself. I guess it wouldn't be a great loss if they get rid of it. (channel 10 or 12, cable)
Imagine being one of those people that showed up for work not knowing their job was gone. No chance to say goodbye to their friends and coworkers. I feel bad for them and hope they find new positions in their chosen field.
Local news is going to be dropped from the CHUM station and replaced with a national report, according to the news this morning, and yes, A channel is being sold.
I bet you wouldn't even notice a difference as you flick through your channels. Anyways, its summer, TURN OFF YOUR TVs! hehe! (I know, easier said than done).
As for the folks losing their jobs, OUCH! Its one thing to know months ahead, another to get the shaft the morning you show up to work. Best of luck to them.
