Title: Graduation
Post by: TehBorken on Jun 16 06 07:05
I'll be off later today to attend my son's 6th Grade Graduation ceremony. I can't believe he'll be in Junior High School next year. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Shocked/5.gif)

Pardon me while I go off into a corner and feel very, very old.   (//forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/2.gif)

It's not just flying, it's breaking the sound barrier, lol.

On a cheerier note, my son told me that my ex-wife told him that she hopes I don't show up at his graduation. What kind of sick shit is that to say to a 12 year old kid? What a f*cking ****.

Well f*ck her, she's just shit out of luck. It's a once in a lifetime event and the school is 2 blocks away. Fricking god himself couldn't keep me from being there. Hell, I've been involved from Day 1, I'm in the PTA, I've been the school's webmaster for 7 years, and I put up the money for the graduation swim party they had the other day. I'm in class all the time helping out and doing stuff.  My ex-wife's involvment consists of everything shown between these two lines:
[hr style="width: 100%; height: 2px;"][hr style="width: 100%; height: 2px;"]
That's right, nothing. Nada, zip, zero, zilch. The teacher wouldn't even recognize her if she ever did drop in to the class. (Assuming she could even find the school, lol.)

So she can sit on a barbed-wire fence post and spin like a disco-ball for all I care. I couldn't imagine saying something like that to my son about his mom. And she wonders why I got custody. It's simple: I'm not a sick, vindictive psycho-bitch from hell, that's why.

TehBorken, you are a very good daddy to your son.  You are young enough to know and understand him, and yet old enough to guide him wisely.  He is a very lucky boy.

He's a lucky kid to have such a devoted parent!
As for the mom, she sounds like a waste of flesh, but try not to let her insanity ruin the good things in your life!! I know it's easier said than done. Anyway, I'm very impressed with your parental skills and focus!

I guess I don't now Washington States school system but in Missouri 6th grade is middle school.

Where I was raised, Kindergarten was optional.  Grades 1 - 6 were classed as elementary, 7-8 were junior high, and 9 - 12 was senior high school.

It's different here.

  Kindergarten is optional

Grades 1 to 7 is Elementary

Grades 8 to 12 is High School

I think that different parts of this city has a Junior High.

On the Island, they have Middle School.  Great division.....1 to 5 at elementary....6 to 8 at Middle School and 9 to 12, high school.  It seems wiser (and more comfortable) to group maturity level rather than age.

doing 8 to 12 isn't good for high school because that invokes a lot of peer pressure on the 8 to 9th graders. I should know first hand my cousins both got pregnant during that age to older guys because they wanted to fit in the 'in' crowd.  But my middle school was rampent with that stuff too I might add. A 6th grader got pregnant one year and 7th grader the next year. And a group of 6th graders wanted to blow up the school had a hit list of teachers and the school called in the swat police. But of course it didn't get on the news because I lived in the WASP area of the county. Funny cause all the high brow schools were the ones infested with drugs.

Well, I dunno, SD.  Where I grew up it was junior high (grades 7-9) after grammer school, then three-year high school.  It sucked.  My nieces are both in middle school now (grades 6-8) and I can see that their reality is a lot different.  Of course, they're in an upper middle-class suburb with very protective parents--but my junior high was right next to a university campus, so most of us were profs kids or had professional parents who had high expectations of us.  The thing I found difficult is that the 14-year-olds can seriously bully a lot of the prepubescent 7th- and 8th-graders.  I played sports, and the girls' teams didn't separate us out into grades like the boys teams, so I saw this on the field a lot--and in the hallways where younger guys were getting their asses kicked by 9th-grade thugs.  14-year-olds belong in high school.  Plus, junior highs are just like small high schools with cheerleaders and pep rallies, crap like that--I'm under the impression that middle schools don't bother with that stuff.  Plenty of time for that rah-rah bullshit in high school.

Okay here's an example I was a year older then everybody in my grade (now I'll most likely be 3 to 4 years older when I go to university but oh well it doesn't matter anymore, Jesus lived with his mom until he was 30)

6th Grade 12 turning 13   Mostly everybody was 11- turning 12 a girl got pregnant at 12 at my middle school the boyfriend was in high school

7th Grade  13 turning 14 Girl got pregnant during this year also the guy was out of high school.

8th Grade: 14 turning 15

Freshman 15 turning 16

Sophmore 16 turning 17

Junior 17 turning 18

Senior 18 turning 19

Now when I was at my last high school my senior year I was 18 turning 19.  The freshman class was mostly turning 14 or 15. Now if 8th grade was part of high school (which it was when I was in kindergarten) 13 year olds would be in a high school setting.  I know seniors who date freshmans. 19 year olds should not be dating 14 year olds.  I have a friend who is in college and he's dating a 16 year old and he has been doing so for 2 years!

Well, it was a really nice ceremony and I'm now the proud parent of a 7th grader. They put together a great video featuring all the kids (about 60 kids from 3 classes) and played it at the end of the graduation. They served soda pop, cake and other goodies to the survivors afterwards.

My son's mom showed up shortly after I did, and the grimace on her face when she saw me was just about what I expected. She congratulated our son afterwards blah blah and then dashed to her truck and left without spending a minute more there than she had to.

We hung around for a while, snarfed up some cake and cookies, said goodbye to a bunch of his classmates and friends and then headed out ourselves.

Anyway, I'm off to do some naughty things tonight so I'll catch up with you all later. Have a great evening!

She must be super crazy. But I know how you feel. My Aunt is like that too, her kids were the ones that got pregnant in high school. She's a complete loon.  She's in her 50's where's g-string thong low riders (she's an elementary school teacher) asks for money all the time, got a boob job and liposuction. Basically ruined my cousins life by forcing boyfriends on them at around 10.  Result my cousin is an emotional wreck and my other cousin is just lost.

Congrats TehBorken....and of course to TehBorken Jr.

These are the things that your son will form his own opinions on when he is older....not what someone TOLD him to think.  He will know who was there for him and who wasn't.  Kids aren't stupid....and learn a whole lot more through example and action.

Good job !!!![img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/more/bigs/a194.gif" border=0]
