Title: Censorship alive and well : Orwell's 1984
Post by: Jolly Green Giant on Apr 19 06 09:07
Did any of you read some threads on the Discovervancouver forum about Isaac Hayes' leaving South Park comedy, a few weeks ago ?

I commented on it. Since that time I am unable to post anything on that forum, even if I use another nicki. They apparently blocked not only my nick or the IP I posted from (I post from several IPs as I use public pc's in cybershops) but all IP's from the same ISP - and not only that: even if I try posting from another city with presumably another ISP, it's blocked as well !

So it's fairly clear. I cannot post on Discouvervancouver anymore because I criticized Hayes' double standards attitude.

What do you think of that ?

It may not be because of that- a lot of people have had their IPs banned more or less by accident or as collateral damage. But who knows, they may indeed be trying to screen out any 'disharmonious thoughts'...I don't know.

Yeah, I don't think it's anything personal. I tried to post there last week, and found that I couldn't. It had been about a month since I'd posted anything, and there was nothing offensive about anything I'd said. Unless maybe they didn't like one of my pseudonyms.

Folks, no IP Addresses have been put up for banning lately. The only ones I've submitted have been spammers.

If you still want to return to DV, pls send me a message via DS and tell me your handler name. I'll look into it and get your IP Addresses ban.

Apologies to those who may have been accidentally banned.

LOL!

What?? You're implying that DV is controlled by Scientology?? Dude, if that was even remotely true, I know of one long-lived thread that would have been whacked months ago    (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/7.gif)

The 1984 reference is used far too often IMO. You make the Orwell cry.

'disharmonious thoughts'.

Wow. Now I've heard everything. No, we don't simply ban ppl just because we feel like it. You have to be the Surpreme Idiot of all the Universe to get to the banning wagons. The mods are tolerable there.

Mods are human beings.

In every group of human beings you will find a few (or not so few) specimens of below average intelligence, above average ego and spectacularly bad judgement.

In that case, I think I better haul my ass out of tenkani's way. His wit is too sharp for mua.

Come back to DV when you can, amigo. You are much missed there. You still made the DV hottest men list even long after you're gone.

I stole your wisdom and am using it as my tag line. Thank you very much tenkani.  It rings so very true.

I think I also stole someones picture but I don't have one of my own and it's the only one I like.

Tenkani isn't going back to DV until they upgrade that shitty software.

His friend might poke his head in every now and again though    (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/5.gif)

You beat me to stealing his quote, Ms. Chicklet.

Aaaaaaaaahhhh..... ok, ok... maybe the Gods that be will upgrade the software. We have a 'i like kittens' filtration system going. Why? Don't ask.

It's just not fun over there anymore.  I pop in once and a while and am mostly disgusted by what I see.  It's really too bad.  It started out as such fun only a year ago (for me any way).

There is an ebb and flow to the tide of poop over at DV.

Right now, actually, it's not terribly bad. The racist posts, which were one of my major peeves, have dried up a bit.

On the other hand, for some reason trolls like EED have achieved a certain cult-hero status even though they handle-jack, post gore pics and threaten other users. I guess bad boys will always have a certain appeal     (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Thinking/3.gif)

YAH to Chicklet. Welcome Jr. Member.

It's getting better. Still depends on the time of the day. The night ones are still a pain. EED is not so bad, at least he's got his favorite STFU line going for him and nothing new. At least he's keeping DV from becoming too boring.

We still need tenkani's tender loving touch though.

What? Oh.  Yeah, DV is bad.

Ha. I miss a lot of things about the old days.

Panhof and TUX for one.

Sure, they were sexual deviants.

But some of their posts were mind-blowing.

Oooh, and Zolph.

Another deviant, with a wicked sense of humor.

Panof... I thought he was still around. No more underwear talks surfacing? Comes up now and then on DV.

I thought TUX lurks here nowadays.

And yes, I miss Zolphie. Tried emailing him but no response from him. I miss the good old days.

I wonder whatever happend to Zolph.  He was so involved there for a while and then he just disapeared.  I wonder about a lot of the old gang.Like, how are Westcoasters wedding plans coming along and how the heck is Isis?  Braveheart, Kevlar and Stoner have all but faded from my memory.  I want them back damn it. :\'(

TUX was here for maybe a week and then dissapeared.

I miss him because he made me feel normal      (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/9.gif)

  Zolph cracked me up.

He's one of the few people who actually took flirting "too far" on Lunch.

Did you know he had a pretty substantial crush on you, Lise?
Title: Re: Censorship alive and well : Orwell's 1984

It was totally obvious.  I was a little jealous I must admit.

I know. I miss the boys and gals. I thought Isis was back the other day, told her how much I missed her but it turned out to be someone else.

I wish there was a way we can catch up on everyone else.

Yes, tenkani.... I kinda realized Zolph had a crush on me. (who doesn't? Heh) But he's found someone else to wrap his heart around her little finger so I'm happy for him.

He posted a tiny pic that was hard to make out.

On the Net you never know.

But yeah, she was jaw-droppingly hot.

Hmmm.  I never would have thought of Zolph as 'buffy' looking.  You don't mean the tv character do you?  'Cause if you do then yeah I could kinda see that.

From the small picture, he was a pretty muscular guy. I totally did not picture him that way.

This is several weeks back, it's not really lately ; and I am not aware of having spammed. Message via DS ? Do you mean a private message ? I am not registered, probably it doesn't work.

Furthermore, I wonder how people could be accidentally banned ?

If a range of IP addesses was banned and your IP happened to fall within that range the effect would be the same as if you had been deliberately banned.

That's obvious. I should have understood that.
But I thought of something (this is more for Lise, I suppose).
Most of the time I use the Tor network (http://tor.eff.org) for surfing. The Tor network consists of a large number of computer which relay the IP packets. I can't post either when using the Tor network, so it the IP numbers of the Tor network must have been banned as well for good measure, I suppose !
