So, the morale of this story is lets not compare a Jesusland Bible thumping area of the midwestern USA to the Pacific NW.

Sorry to say SD......your dad didn't appear to be too responsible a person.  Your mom could have used the reimbursed premiums to buy herself something nice.

umm what are you saying?

I know a guy on long-term disability who stays home with his kids.  He makes quite a bit (tax free) on his WCB cheques because he was in a high-paying trade when he was injured.

I know another couple of guys who had kids later in life and were able to take early retirement and collect their pensions while they stayed home.

But I don't know a single guy who stays home (without collecting some source of income) all the time while the wife works.

Same here.  But my coworker told me of a friend she knows where they guy stays at home and doesn't make any money while the wife works.  She makes enough to support the two of them and their kids.  I think this situation is really rare.

A LOT people I know out here in the 'burbs work opposite shifts to avoid paying childcare.  If the dad works nights, he stays home with kids during the day.

I know a couple guys who have stayed home on a temporary basis with kids (ie laid off of work, on disability, etc.).

And I know a couple guys who work seasonally (ie fishing) and stay home the rest of the time.

hilarious, Van Dude.

Back to the original topic, I think it's great that people are free to work (...or not...) in whatever capacity they choose.  I remember in the early '80s when Michael Keaton was Mr Mom.  It was the first time a stay-at-home dad was portrayed on screen.  Then it was the cartoon Adam, before he became a dot.com consultant from home.

My guy's grandpa loves to vacumm, and perhaps, that's where he got it from.  He made it VERY clear to me that HE'LL be vacumming the carpets at our new place.  LOL  Hey- I ain't fighting. :)  Now, to get him to buy a better vacumm...... maybe I'll just break the old one... LOL

I know several guys who like to vacuum.  Mr LM is not one of them.

Nah, vaccuming is for girls! So are cheesy movies...

Hmmm, I wonder if this has something to do with me being single?

(just kidding on the "for girls" comment btw!)
