Five pairs of socks.
Flowers and a bottle of wine for my neighbour. Although I'm off to town now...so that may require updating soon.
That's what this thread's for - constant updating.
Are you trying to boost the economy ? (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif)
No, I'm trying to boost the number of postings.
lol. It's in a sad sad state.
Anyways....I'm off to find some 'What did you last buy?' fodder. Have a wonderful day Gophie.
2 bottles of spritz soda pop.
4 jumbo cheddar smokies = 8 regular sized smokies.
6 sausage rounds
1 loaf of bread.
2 lbs chicken thighs
2 lbs chicken drum sticks,
1 dozen eggs
and that put my account down to negative 60 dollars.
if i get some money again i will buy a new bicycle 150 dollars vrs 60 plus install and tax on repairs... new one might be the better investment.
I love buying books. If I ever won the lottery, I would have a huge room for a library.
I bought a new stainless frying pan/wok at Winners. The small frying pan that came with our set, doesn't have a perfectly flat bottom. This is a problem with a ceramic top stove...as they don't heat evenly.
Perfectly flat bottom?!
Anyways, I bought some groceries at Safeway a couple nights ago..including 4 boxes of Hamburger Helper for $8! Wahoo.
Last weekend I bought some Easter goodies for the kids in my extended family.
I buy beer every couple of weeks, and some office supplies for work (reimbursable).
I bought 2 pr of pants, a sweater and some shirts before I started work in Feb.
A newspaper.
a pitcher of beer
1/2 price big fat easter egg.
My Coach purse which I absolutely adore.
Did I mention my Coach purse?
We went perusing through a bunch of antique and 2nd hand places yesterday. Fun fun fun. Sawdust even came with me...it's not really his thing...so that made it double fun. I was looking for something specific for a project that is brewing in my mind, but didn't find anything that would work.
So....all I ended up buying, was a small box filled with stacks of newspaper clippings of old recipes, for a dollar. The old recipes were fun....but it was what was on the backs that caught my interest. Some of the newspapers were from 1940 up to the newest, which was 1957. There were some ads on the back of one for a summer resort on the water....for $12.50 a WEEK. lol
Toothpaste
Laundry detergent and mixer late last night. The mixer seemed a bit superfluous, since I'm out of vodka, but I was at the StupidStore anyways and tonic water is only $1.18 for 2L.
Fish, Bread, Oats, and Sausages.
Canada Post bubble ma-thingy with my cousin's wedding gift that I got from the Chinese Garden in Chinatown. A paper cutting happy marriage silk scroll. I have to keep the 'globe trotting, worldly, and random' label.
Its getting more and more difficult to keep this image going. I figure I'll get my cousin a Granville Island t-shirt. He likes beer, his nice shirts when he goes somewhere either have metallica, john deere, or budweiser on them (classy shirts, not white tees). So If I got him the Granville Island it would be the equavalent to H&M for him.
lol
So we won't be seeing him on the cover of GQ any time soon ? lol
Today I bought an iron picket type of fence railing to re-do my balcony railing (which still sports it's 80's pickets) It's ok, but have been looking for something to pull it out of the 80's without changing the 'cabin' style too much. It needs a little work.....well....a lot of work, but it should be fun. I LOVE the ReStore.
Also, some glass insert kitchen cabinet doors....which also need a little work.
Oh how fun PC. :P
Yeah no GQ for him, unless there was a FQ (Farmer's Quarterly) then he and the farm would be on it every week, with all the farm publications that have taken their picture in the past couple of years.
I'm stock piling work cheques, I'm goofy, I've been losing extremely valuable things lately. I have to buy new stuff. I don't really care about the ipod or glasses, but the jacket, super nice jacket, good grief.
Beeeee careful. Stuff's expensive these days.
Maybe the Farmers Almanac will do a section on Farm Fashion. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
I'm glad you're not my kid, SD. I'd be killing you right about now.
Last thing I bought was some beer and cider at the LDB, and a tub of margerine at Safeway.
haha.
Yeah, I know. I think it was the past month. I went 3wks before realizing my glasses were gone. But, I knew that was going to happen eventually, the glasses never were the right fit on my head (got a weird nose). So it was always on off on off on off. Well, sooner or later with my track record, I was going to lose them.
So, I'll just get a new pair that fits my head, looks normal, to the point I can wear them 24/7. Or get contacts. lol
Ipod was 4yrs old, it kept having strokes and heart attacks. It was near its end, and I was going to get a new one anyway.
The coat is the one I can't believe.
And I still want to get a decent camera by the time I go to San Francisco in June...

You would have until about 10, then you'd of given up and realized "Its just SD" love me for what I am (a person who forgets and has really bad ADDHD moments, and like literally saying it after a thousand times he still forgets), and pray someday he'd stop forgetting. lol
hahaha
You need a pair of those CSI glasses. My neighbour has a pair....and hilarious as they are....for certain tasks they're awesome. I think I may join the geek brigade and get a pair for the workshop. I have to look for my glasses every time I put them down.
CSI glasses?
*googles*
comes up with nothing.
These be they.
[A href="http://www.whateverworks.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=K7560+CL" target=_blank][/A]
I saw these glasses a couple of weeks ago and filed them into the "too weird to work" category. Then... I watched an episode of CSI: NY and saw a character use them. The [A href="http://www.whateverworks.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=K7560+CL" target=_blank]Clic Reader Glasses[/A] actually are a great idea, now that I think about it. They close in front, right between the eyes, with a magnet, and they have a built-in neck band to prevent them from falling. The best part: you slip them around your neck when you're not using them.
I'll pass P.C., but that's for your concern about my social life's well being.
A dress to wear to a wedding next month.
Trois Pistoles and St-Rémy, and then groceries this morning.
Last thing I bought was gas on the way home from harrison..
Apples (from Brazil), Oranges (from Spain) and Bananas (from Costa Rica).
Looks like the 100 Mile Diet might not work for you Gophie.
Friday I saw some 24x24 inch exposed aggregate patio pavers at Home Depot in Nanaimo, but I had the car instead of the truck, so didn't get them. So....yesterday, Sawdust was in Courtenay, so I asked him to pick some up. He started out with eleven (they weigh more that 80 lbs. each). When he got them home, I was disappointed to see, that the aggregate was totally different.
I went to Nanaimo today and picked up what they had left and ordered some more, with the stipulation, that they would be the same. The guy says to me..."Well lady...stone is stone...it hasn't changed much over the last few years". WELL I LOSE IT ! I SNAP! I said...listen smart ass ....and proceeded to explain, that in fact the ones from Courtenay are not even CLOSE to the ones you have here. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Angry/5.gif)
I'd never curse at a worker no matter what the situation, only in the car and it would be to Home Depot and not the employee. lol
The man was rude and condescending...the man got the curse. It was a bit out of character for me...yet milder than what I wanted to say.
SD, I normally dont either get upset at employees as they are only doing their job.. but like PC says, some of them are turkeys as they are tired of dealing with people at certain times of the day or month. Its human nature.. its also human nature to snap back at them, usually using logic, common sence, and facts dazzles them.
I last bought bottomless pop at Riverport last night.. proceeded to sit down as we managed to time it perfectly to miss half the crappy previews.. Put it to the left of my left foot as I dropped into the chair, and lovely miss starfishie as she was sitting down pushed out with her feet to clear around her chair. We argued for a bit as to whom was going back to fill it up as the movie was just starting.
Sounds like you had a bottomless and a topless pop. lol
Getting upset at employees that are only doing their job is off limits....(regardless if they are doing it poorly....poor training is usually the source) But rudeness is not in the job description. Rolling his eyes at 'my stupidity' paired with his condescending remark was uncalled for.
Then when I got home, I called Sawdust and told him we were going to have to return the 2 tons of pavers he got in Courtenay, I heard him roll his eyes too. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
When he got home, he liked the Nanaimo stones much better too. (phew !) [/DIV]
LOL. I'd curse if you asked me to return 2 tonnes of paving stones!
you're aware that you can return purchases at any Home Depot and not necessary at the same store of the purchase...right?
bought a lot 'ladykiller' clothes for um looking nice, moved out of peasantry, might lose my 'radical leftist' (whateverz) label on campus. shucks.
I insisted I do it, but Mr Sawdust did the deed today. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/14.gif) At least he likes the Nanaimo ones much better too. As a matter of fact, there was someone there today when he was returning them, doing the same thing....and the gal that works there said she thought they were kind of yucky.
Yes 49er.....it's definitely a good thing to be able to return anywhere. It was more a matter of convenience for hub to return them where he got them, as he is there every day.
Anyways....got the first 3 down today. It took me the WHOLE day. (well, plus I had to build a couple planters on each side of the steps to the shop, cuz it looked purdy.) I always find that one job always leads to 4 or 5 others along the way.
You got three stones down in a day.. with all the other little jobs? lol. Always seems to be the way of how it works hey? Every time I go to use something, I see something wrong and start fixing that.. then see something else.. by the time I do what I started out to do its like an hour or so later. I get comments then.. it took you all day to accomplish only THAT?
The last thing I have now bought is a wiring loom for a set of offroad lights. Dont know why I bought it.. but I did.
Going to get some stuff I need for packing to go away soon.
Yup. 3 stones. But hey....that's 12 square feet. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
The thing is....I'm a little impatient when it comes to foundation work. It's all the digging and leveling that was cramping my style.
What is a wire loom ? Are you going to make some metal undies ?
I bought a Metal Rake from the ReStore.
I bought a roll of flagging tape from Home Depot.
lol. You're high maintenance. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
I brought a bowl of yummy soup from the local pho place. This one had real crab with tomatoes, tofu and vietnamese ham on vermicelli noodles. So yummy!!!
Also purchased a bag of Lays, pack of avocados and ketchup from Stupidstore.
They'll get used to it. I haven't used plastic bags for a couple years....although I have forgotten my cloth bags a few times.
I usually forget to bring the cloth bags, but I re-use the grocery bags for garbage.
I never forget the cloth bags at home....I just often leave them in the car....and sometimes I'm too lazy to go get them once my food is on the checkout. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
Using the plastic grocery bags for garbage bags is exactly what they don't want us to do....cuz they still end up in the landfill. We've been getting bio-degradable plastic garbage bags, but the bloody things are a little pricey (and really thin). They should be making the makers of these types of products, ensure they are reasonably priced and available.
Tea (Earl Grey), salmon and milk
lol. I know. I have never really known who they are either....and I seldom refer to...them. I was going to write to them once, but I didn't know where to address it. I figure if they don't want to show themselves, then they shouldn't get a vote.
Woohoo! Another convert (to the rice cooker cult, that is).
We bought chicken breasts, broccolli, pesto cream sauce, and garlic butter.
Made a white cream spag sauce with chicken hunks.
I too have lots of cloth garbage bags in my Truck.. and always forget to bring them in.
I think I'm going to get a rice cooker too. I like the idea of "set it and forget it."
purelife wrote:

This is the very reason that I have a crock pot.. works great for lots of little things!
Apples, oranges, bananas, rice, cocoa, chicken.
Went down to pick up the concrete pavers that I had on hold at Home Depot. (they wouldn't put them on hold until I payed for them...which is fine) ....but, low and behold....they sold them anyway.
strawberries, apples, bananas, grapes
Dark chocolate KitKat bar yesterday at 7-11.
They have KitKat in dark now ? Yum.
Just discovered it.
Made some cookies last week- white choc chip and crenberry/oatmeal. I think I only like white chocolate in a cookie. Otherwise it doesn't taste like much.

This would send me over the deep end if I was already having the issues you were talking about. I feel sorry for you PC!
Last thing I bought was dinner tonight for myself, starfishie, my bro and his girlfriend. Went to 89 inn as we havent been there in a while.. they renovated and added sushi to teh menu. <burp>
Im still packing away here. Lots of little things to pack, but Im almost there. I head out on wednesday pm now as they didnt get my visa issued until today.
Back to the same boat, Russ?
I gotta get out more. White chocolate chips. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/8.gif)
It was pretty frustrating Russ.....this all after spending half an hour on hold to find out if the remainder had been shipped yet. (which it wasn't) Then someone else phoned me, and aked if anyone had called to let me they were in. They weren't.
The upside is, they are going to deliver them, and waive the $60 delivery charge. Works for me. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
This trip keeps getting shuffled on you. By the time you leave you're going to have over-packed.
Lil Me wrote:

Evening miss PL and PC!
YEah, back to teh same boat. I didnt want to go back to the same boat but they didnt have anything prepared for me to go anywhere else.. and all the other companies I applyed to have just answered NOW in the week before I left. Cant do that.. leave a black mark on my name. Bad news in this industry..
I hope I dont overpack PC.. I think Im better this time than I normally am. But we will see.
Michel;
Oh, no, not true, a book on MesoAmerican archaeology. From BookWarehouse, 5th edition
Hey Michel, I am heading to Navojoa, Mexico (Baja Peninsula area). If there are any sites in the area you would like me to photograph, I would be happy to try to get there.
I will be there for a month maybe more.
Sawdust bought me a new shovel today. It has a nice padded grip. Now that's romantic. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
Maybe he wants to you *ahem* use it on him. A flogger, if you will.
lol....woowoooo !
Actually, I cracked the handle of our new shovel yesterday, trying to dig out a boulder that was larger than I thought....but I like your idea much better.
Take it back and get a replacement?
New, as in not 10 years old like my last one. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif) I think I've had it over a year.....which is sort of brand new in the shovel world.
P.C. wrote:

You are a luck girl to have a man like that!

There are some pictograph a little south of where you'll be. I was supposed to go there last Christmas, but found way too much other sites on my way there, so I postponed it to next Christmas.
Most people don't know mexican geography very well, but if i say baja peninsula area they get an idea of where I will be.
OK - cool - how much furhter south? 10 km or 200km?

lol....no....just a frivolous whim. I'm a spoiled princess....I see it, I want it, I get it. And today I got to play with all my new stuff. I made some custom exposed aggregate stones for the steps to the shop. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/14.gif)
Painted black and decorated with flowers?

Coffee this morning. (evil S'bucks empire, but I left home in a hurry...)

The beer in the fridge at work is working wonders for morale (go figure!).
And...the boss has NOT complained that I purchased the fridge...
OOOOOOoooo.....those look super nice Michel !
I bought a bunch of summer clothes....and a nice bar stool that matches our bar chairs. I found it at the Restore....brand new for $15 bucks. These are the bar chairs we have....and the stool is the same, without the back. The stools are regular $140....so that was a SUPER find.

What a bargain you got on that dress, Lise! And so purty!!!
Last purchase was a lot of groceries yesterday. I have to go buy some long t-shirts and more comfy pants soon. I don't want to stretch my regular shirts.
lol. I know what you mean, purelife.
I stole a lot of MrLM's shirts when I was pregnant.
Haha I always find it kinda a cool weird when women are wearing my shirts.
I bought Iron horse beer, because I'm a HORSE full of IRON. *crushes rocks*
I love men's clothes especially the shirts. I did remember wearing a lot of my hubby's shirts during pregnancy. I mean, c'mon... you're only pregnant for so long and men's clothes are extremely comfy. I draw the line at underwear tho. lol.

I don't think I got 1/2 of them back ....
A waxed jacket.
Some varnished pants. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
A CK shorts and a Nine West sunglasses from Winners.
Ahh. My new sunglasses came in today too. I order the exact same pair that I lost/was ripped off.

Ouch! I hear ya, PC. At least this one will be in mint condition. Now don't ever leave it at the store again. :)
Yes ma'am. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/11.gif)
A sari ($35) in Surrey.
Also got some matching jewelry.
Got 2 pair of shoes in Queensborough.
1 pair jewelled sandals with heel ($39) to wear with the sari and 1 pair casual shoes ($19).
A spider plant and potting soil.
Belly dancing scarf
Tuna & Cucumber Sandwich
Jewerly and lip liner from Avon.
A baby carrier, front and back. It was on sale at Toys R Us for $35 from $50. MrPL is gonna love carrying this lil one in it.
A pedicure (my first ever) and a case of Bud Lime.
NICE !
I've still never had one. Everyone says they make you feel like a million bucks. How close are they ?
Oh heavenly.
High backed massage chair, whirlpool basin for your feet, and someone who massages your legs and feet. Do it! I wish I did years ago!
I have insanely ticklish feet. Is this going to be a problem ? I mean REALLY ticklish.
A vise for my nuts
tongs and bread.
Apples, Oranges, Bananas, Salmon and Milk.
milk and two bags of Lays chips for tomorrows family bbq.
I might just have to open up the dill pickle bag tonight.
I might do a manicure and a pedicure for a Christmas present. I'm just a tad turned off by the whole process especially when you kinda get the feeling the tools they used aren't quite sterile.
Sunflower by Elizabeth Arden.
There must be some way to check the reputation of these places ?
Supposedly the high end salons will open sterile packages in front of you. The dinky ones don't. I mean, you could technically bring your own tools there and ask that they use.
The one time I went to the Kingsway spa, it was horrible. I was amazed that they just dip the stuff into warm water before cutting my nails. Not the best experience. I won't be going back.
This is going to be my winter project. Complete with original wooden wheels. I couldn't resist its charms.

How old is it?
I'm not sure Gophie. That's something I'm not very good at, establishing time frames. Some things I know by certain characteristics, but many I don't. I'm guessing maybe the 20's ???
Those little wheels on the foot of the desk make me think 1930-40 but the front handles and the shape of the desk make me think 1900-1910
i am at a complete loss on how to age it. i do know it is beautiful and would like to compliment you on your good eye. enjoy the restoration project. i am slightly jealous over it...
Hey thanks Lazy O. That's what threw me a little. The hardware looks original...and I would have given it the 1900's too. But the style is a mystery. I've been half thinking about cutting the center bridge out and making a pair of bedside tables. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif) I'm not usually a fan of killing antiques, but I don't need a desk. For 15 bucks, I might just have a little fun with it.
I bought this; not quite as big as I wanted.. but the price was right.[meta XXXX-EQUIV="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"][meta name="ProgId" content="Word.Document"][meta I was already in the backyard with papers flying all over in teh wind and pipes rolling down the driveway. Who needs instructions. I also have discovered that my backyard is not flat like what I had always thought. Over the 15 foot span it drops 4 inches. Never noticed it before.
Waters been in a few days now and its still freakin freezing. Im thinking about rigging up a poor mans solar heater.
EDIT: dammit ive been browsing sites again now for about the last 30 minutes.
Good idea on the solar heating. You can also get those thermal pool covers to keep the heat in. They work amazingly well.
http://www.builditsolar.com/Projects/PoolHeating/pool_heating.htm#Homemade
It came with some sort of cover but I didnt like it. So I just bought one of those floating covers with the little bubbles in it.. Damn thing wasnt 15 feet like it said it was! its like 13.5! Arrgh.
Yeah.. im still looking for stuff on craigslist now for supplies to build some sort of solar heater.
MrLM was researching solar water heating systems a while ago. Will get him to contact you about this.
What a beautiful piece of antique desk you have there, P.C.! Did you buy it from an Antique store? I can't wait to see the after photos.
Nice pool Russ. It's so refreshing to cool down in the pool on a hot summer day like today.
Hello miss PL, LM, and PC!
Would love to hear what he thought of or found out miss LM.. Ive been measuring and looking things over.
Yeah miss PL.. it IS nice, lol. Ive suddenly got people randomly stopping by. One person seems to be over every day.. I came back this afternoon after a haircut and running around to find him bbqing and swimming in the pool with his girlfriend.. then didnt think anything of it. Hmm..
Will ask him, Russ.
Love the desk, P.C.
Thanks LM and Russ.
purelife...it came from a thrift store. I don't think you could get anything...even in that dreadful condition, for 15 dollars at an antique store.
Some of the antique stores around here are just funky junk stores. I think they're just kidding when they put the price tags on.
Lots on Front St in New West, Main St Vancouver, Cloverdale.
[div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;"]
Yes...there's a lot of those around. Love poking around in them, but most seem to charge the antiquey prices for the funky junk as well. I picked up the desk at a regular old thrift store. They also had the most beautiful piano I have ever seen. All beautifully carved but not ornate, VERY old. The top and back was styled almost like a mantle. It was cheap like borscht, but Sawdust would have fainted to see another piece of furniture come into this house.

I agree, too overpriced for many things.
Sawdust shouldnt worry. My brother and I cured my mother of that pretty quick. We had a wood burning fireplace at the time you see.. and the oldest in was teh first to go. She wouldnt notice for a bit.. then she caught on quick.
Russ,
This is probably the most impressive hot water heater - in that it doesn't need any kind of a pump ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTO4aQZ9LI8
One REALLY easy thing to do is to simple put dark or black plastic mats or other objects on the bottom of the pool.
this one is really cheap and easy ...

Russ,
This uses a different technology, a parabolic mirror focused on a pipe.
Simple and pretty cheap.

Russ,
I like this one - I think you could modify it for water I like the surface area that the sun would hit.

Thanks VG!.. Things to look at.
I was looking at these, and figured if they worked for the pool.. I might move them to the house for our hottub (down for only ten years). Maybe also for our house's hotwater heating.

Wow you are really serious about this!! Yeah I looked at the design it looks great.
The only thing that I can add is that in the heat exchange resevoir - I would be tempted to look at the thermal properties of rock or brick.
In the center of the coils is a large area with only water. I think that rock / brick in this area would add to the ability to store heat for longer - of course it will add more weight (if the resevoir is in the basement no problem).
Let me know if you would like a hand. My folks installed a heat exchanger (i think it was like $10K) in their house in Bowser but I think the heat source is electric - if I could build the solar water part for them - I think they could virtually eliminate thier heating bill.

just below the one you were looking at - it's a $300 version of what you are considering. One of the cost savings is using a 55 gal drum as a resevoir instead of building the 2X resevior - hell even if you use 2 barrels - it would be a LOT cheaper - I know a place out in POCO that either gives old barrels away or sells them for $10.

LOL! Um, I was just reading the same thing. Yeah? I was trying to figure out where I would get some barrels. I was actually thinking of doing here to try on the pool, then if it works at my parents place on the beach nearby your relatives place.. They use wood heating during the winter and I already bugged them about doing a heat exchanger on the chimney.. maybe I could convince them, lol.
Russ,
I will have a drive by the barrell place today and see.
Again I think they are either free or $10 would you like me to pick up a couple for you??

I've never paid much attention - never had much use for them.
It's along a road i travel all the time - I remember seeing the sign and thinking that the barrels were either cheap or free.
I'm coming to the island early next week - I'll be taking my new truck so if you want I can pick up a couple for you too!!

Barells $10 each
I drove past and got the phone number - 604-464-5451
The barrels have paint residue in them.
So for you Russ that shouldn't be a problem as you will not be using the water in the barrel for anything other than heat storage.
PC not sure what you had in mind for the barrels - give them a call if you have concerns.
If you can call them this week and you are ok with the residue - let me know I can get upto 6? for you.

Well, thanks VG forlooking into this.. but I cant attempt this yet as Ive started something else with my brother. lol.
Thankyou VERY much for looking into the barrels. Ill keep the number for now, so dont worry about the barrels yet!
Well, the project we started was one that should have been started along time ago, lol. We just shifted the red toyota that has been sitting in our backyard with no motor and front end damage for the past 4 years lol. So we put it in the garage, bought a clutch kit, and started assembling the drivetrain. We found 3 bee's nests over it and thankfully didnt have the garage doors closed yet when we found them.
Had another buddy drop by yesterday after calling like 20 times from the launching ramp.. his boat wouldnt start. So wouldnt you know it.. he came by after giving up and we ended up checking that thing out for a bit. Not that we minded.. he showed up with beer.
Ok, packing and preparing stuff today... for the venture to teh island tonight.
Russ wrote:

Russ - no problem ...
were the bees in the engine compartment?? i.e. a bee in your bonnet?? ha ha
Sorry - I couldn't pass THAT ONE up
enjoy the island - I am heading over on monday myself. btw .. I understand that your dad might be keen on joining the power squadron - if he is let me know I can hook him up with my dad (he has been with them for 10?+ years). My dad would be happy to introduce him around.
One was in the rotten out exhaust pipe.. one WAS in teh bonnet, lol. And the last was on the front clip, so tecnically in the bonnet.. but the new front clip was sitting on top of the truck.
EDIT: yeah, supposed to be really nice on the island this weekend. I was gonna bring the boat over.. but my brother isnt coming and it would be a waste of money to tow it over and back with only a couple of us.
Folding table and some chairs for the office at work.
New beach towels for this sunny summer weather. :)
Im buying last minute stuff for the trip. Lotso bug spray with HIGH Deet.
I also got some ice.. and starfishie was telling me that she read how McDonalds will fill up a cooler full of ice for you, for a donation of money towards their ronald mcdonald foundation.. anyone heard this?
I've had McDonalds donate ice to my school's fundraiser but I've never gave a donation to there charity for ice.

You get used to the cost. But it always hurts.
How do you like the truck? I saw a Suby with a car carrier on the top the other day and thought of you.
I took a wow, when we filled up the boat in Campbell River before we got to and launched in port Hardy. The guy puts premium fuel in it, and it took 380 litres.
Last thing I bought was a coffee at a Chevron in Agassiz
Love the truck- as a passenger. It's honestly not my fave thing to drive.
I need my own valet parking attendant. LOL
I'd rather drive the rice rocket, but MrLM has been parking downtown this week, so he takes it.
I don't miss the Suby. There was always the doubt whether it was going to make it from A to B in those last few months! Hate waiting for BCAA, being towed home, and feeling like I'm being ripped off by mechanics...
Nothing worse than not having confidence that your vehicle will get you where you want to go.

groceries at Costco and the farm market.
Spent about $93 on the the supplies I needed for my glucose monitor. What an expensive diagnosis! I had no idea there would be any costs to incur. :(

Hey PL.. how hard is it to order online from Costco? Does it come to your door or to the closest Costco? Do you have to pay extra or at a certain amount shipping is free?

Well, I have to get cracking on finishing changing my power steering box, been sitting by the truck for a few days now, lol.

Heya Russ -
It's very easy to order from Costco! You have to first create an account. Shipping and handling is free, as far as I know, (I've purchased one item that was $35) and Costco delivers to your door via UPS (so far when I've ordered). Costco sends you emails to inform you of the progress of your shipment and you can track it online once they give you a tracking number. I've ordered about 6 items from Costco, one of them weighing 50lbs, and UPS has always shipped it on the day they say it will be shipped.
Oh, and refunds are VERY easy. Just bring it to any Costco. And their Customer Service line is awesome.
I don't usually order online but am very comfortable doing so from Costco.
Good to know.. thanks!
Yeah, I agree Costco has a great return policy. I have never had a problem. good to know its the same with the online stuff.
For the online returns, all you have to do is print out that email that Costco sends you showing the price. I only returned one item because it wasn't working properly.
Not only is their return policy good....they will also give you back the difference if an item you purchased goes on sale. (not sure of the time frame for that...but I think it might be 6 weeks)
I bought my microwave for $119 and then it went on clearance for $79....and they gave me back the 40 bucks. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif)
I keep my Costco receipts for that reason. When they have their weekly specials, I check to see if it applies to any of the items I purchased. And when Christmas comes around, some of their items go on sale in January, so I keep an eye out for them.
Last purchases: groceries and 50 pack blank DVD's for $10 from London Drugs!! A good deal indeed.
Mince, Liver, Sausages
avocados and tomato paste
I couldnt find a used charcoal weber bbq and other parts on CL even though I searched adn called people for the last few weeks.. so I got mad and bought a new one so I could steal the lid and grate for my 'project'.
Can you believe, it was cheaper for me to order a new weber bbq and take only the lid and grate, than it was for me to just order a new lid and grate?
I KNOW Russ. It's a crazy world out there.
Because the major cost of most consumer goods is shipping, not composite parts?
I don't mind paying for the shipping but the handling cost that included with the cost that I object

Asked to borrow my brothers truck to do some loads to the dump as it was free dump week. He went off and said no its his truck. Well, whatever, but it still annoyed me.
I started thinking about how we shared vehicles back and forth but he still annoyed me a few times. It really started to annoy me yesterday as I thought about it. I pulled into a dealership. I didnt make it to any other boat places or boats, but ended up all over the lower mainland yesterday with starfishie and my dad. I pick it up on thursday.

Hi Russ,
Recently, we purchased a ship called the Teakerne Navigator here in Corpus Christie. When I did a general search I found your posting and was wondering if you had any info on the ship? We were told that it was a Canadian Naval vessal at one time, but cannot find any history. She is a 71' Star Shipyard, built in 1953, with Canadian colors and Maple Leaf on the stacks. Hope you can help us out, or show us where we can find more info. Thanks!

Nothing yet but I am thinking of one of these 2 devices to replace my Ipod nano, the cost to repair it is more than these items cost with the exception of the touchscreen being higher priced but the screen is larger and my Ipod is only 2 gb in size.
this is the one i am thinking about purchasing next month. it is a bit pricier than some other mp3 video players but it is still less expensive from other kinds. However i have not heard many reviews for this product. but i think the almost 3 inch screen will make long boring shifts @ dead sites a thing of the past.

Just don't buy a ipod nano then have it drop off the work desk and you accidentally kick it down a hallway and under a radiator, it flew faster than some hockey pucks...the screen on mine is busted...plus it has a significant dent in the corner where the headphones plug-in. I found a place that offers to repair all thinks ipod cheap... it is Irepair in north Vancouver Canada, the link is [a href="http://www.irepair.ca/"]http://www.irepair.ca/[/a]
so i just don't know, should i repair my Ipod for about 70 dollars with taxes or buy just buy a brand new video player with a nice larger screen with more storage capacity and i just love the additional storage ability but does it include a sacrifice of battery life and how many hours of battery life does one get with a plugged in micro sd card say a 8 gb card with 8 movie's on it and 20 audio books...
so just what does one buy...

Well, ended up buying clothes.. and kitchen stuff from the seattle outlets. also picked up a bunch of baby clothes from there. lots on 70% off from the store there. Bought a bunch of tongs and utensils for cooking.
Have I mentioned I hate lineups yet?
Bought a GPS navigator thingy. Also bought a bunch of groceries.
Oh, also bought some nice glass pitchers and pint glasses from Ross.
Starfishie bought a bunch of nice tops and jeans. Finally.
I hate lineups.
Bought 2 bottles of tequila to bring back.. both cost 36 bucks together incl tax. Good deal when you consider that a 1.14 litre bottle costs 49.95 in the BCL plus tax.
Ive discovered that the best bang for the buck in hard stuff is tequila.. A bottle of Rum or Vodka costed 16-18 bucks a bottle at teh duty free, while at the BCL they are around 39 bucks.

They are for friends of ours that had a boy last week. We couldnt think what to get them and thought of them when we saw the baby clothes.

Cons running shoes size 14 extra wide USA sizing chart. They fit like a dream with my thick pair of woolly socks.. I am so happy having a nice comfy pair of runners and warm fuzzy feet. Best 15 dollars I spent this month. .. alas I shall have no choice but to put them comfy runners away for a pair of winter boots :( heavy clumsy and slightly uncomfortable as well. they are warm but that does not make up for the fact I just do not like them cause they weigh so much. the worst buy of 2007 .. '
Can anyone recomend a pair of light weight and comfortable winter boots ones that will be warm with a insulated liner or at least a minus 20 to 40 rating. I need to find a pair of boots ankle to 1/4 calf high Just how do you go about finding and choosing a pair of winter boots. I don't know where to go. Maybe Marks work warehouse. A size 12 to 14 EEE depending on British UK or Usa size charts Uk size charts.
what do you guys think ? any recommendations from the women shoe shoppers for us inexperienced shoe shopping men.
A&N? or Marks.
Thanks LM that is what I was thinking as well, So on monday I will go with Marks theres a clearance center on hastings near commercial. they will be worth a check at the very least. the ones I bought at zeller in 2007 for a on sale price of 9.99 these winter boots are still good and I think they will last at least 1 to 3 more winters.
They held up great to the winter of 2007 as for the winter of 2008 well they got almost no use, with my being in the hospital and house bound while recovering from my illness. the boots are just heavy and unsightly... perhaps I am just being overly critical of them they are nice and warm though.
I like a light wieght foot ware comfort is just as important as warmth. . when you are as big and as clumsy as I am, when I am accidentaly stepping on your toes and with big old tonnage boots on my feet I am afraid I would accidentaly hurt some one.so I think lighter and softer is better.
As for my army and navy shopping sprees, I bought my winter boots and shoes a couple of times over the years and have had pretty much horrible quality products. 3 months after our salt snow & rain of 2005 the boots were trash, totally destroyed, the ones in 2006 lasted only a little better almost 4 months. and for the 45 dollars i spent on them they should of lasted a minimum 2 winters of use. our winters being only 4 months long november december january february
and my A&N runners lasted me 2 months and the glue fell apart, I really try not to buy shoes at A&N anymore due to the rather poor quality of the products, I would sooner go back to zellers the shoes and boots I have bought there seem to last relativly well. However the Shoe and Boot selection is better at A&N. I know A&N has a some new winter boots on sale starting december 18 and at 15 dollars and up there might be a good bargain or two to be had, even if the quality can be a little on the poor side..
perhaps I am just being to picky and Ishould just keep my thinsulate boots till they are unfit to wear and replace them then. But I can afford to buy lighter boots and new ones ones that mioght be more comfortable and do not take 15 minutes to lace and tie... and these boots can be donated to look out... mmmm
what you all think should I keep them or buy lighter more comfortable ones that might not last as long but will be more enjoyable for me to wear not to mention be faster to put on and take off... and then some one less fortunate gets a nice warm dry pair of boots.by donaion to lookout ?

dental services roughly 1000 dollars worth since My first dentist appointment nearly 2 months ago.
Last thing I bought other than gift cards for xmas presents for everyone.. as well as bottle of booze. Was a Macbook Pro.
Got mad and tired of the PC that I had with all the problems, crashes, and program conflicts. This new Mac has me super happy! Well, so far. Battery life is amazingly enough almost a full 8 hours.
Sounds good Russ. People who have them, swear by them.
We bought another 42" plasma TV (Samsung). (for about $2500 less than the one we bought a few years back that crapped out after 2 years.....which we have since found out that there is a class action law suit against them for this particular tv, because the problem with ours is exactly the same as the problem shared by countless others. And all LG has to say about it, is "I'm sorry for your 'inconvenience'". Inconvenience ? Inconvenience ??? Inconvenience I can deal with. A whack of money down the drain is another story. )
DON'T BUY LG !
Soap!
A new computer.
Hot water tank and clothes dryer.
Caused a leak down 2 storeys by emptying the old tank (ulp). The drain hose flipped out of the bathtub. Then a lot of cursing and re-welding to install the new one. Another trip to Home Depot next morning for more fittings, but it's done now.
Clothes dryer is great. Wonderful to have one that works!
Insurance claim and restoration work ongoing after leak.
Car battery.
And I was determined to change it myself while MrLM stood there with his hands in his pockets.
groceries.
Drinks last night.
Will also be paying a $500 insurance deductible, soon...but that's nothing compared to the thousands of dollars worth of damage we caused with our leak. Insurance is good!
Lil Me.....what are you doing at work on a Sunday. Good lord girl.
LOL. The bookkeeping backlog. I only went in for 2 hours today, so there's still a LOT to do.

Thats too bad.. at least you went in for a bit on your own to do SOME. Do you get overtime or anything for coming in on your days off?
LOL. As if!
My last purchase was lip gloss and a herbal cleanse kit.
Time for the semi-annual purge.

Hey Orik. We all do what we need to in order to survive. Don't be ashamed about applying. You're in a temporary jobless situation AND you're waiting on answers about your health. Both totally legit reasons. This is why we have welfare...hope it helps you through this current crisis.

The Wendy's chicken burgers i bought last week at quest were 911 burgers. they were way to hot even when washed and boiled for 2 minutes, the things were to flaming hot. I enjoy a mild to medium heat for spicy foods but them things should have been sold with a warning label ie you may need a fire extinguisher to put out the heat.. or at the very least 1 litre of milk..this time i bought some milk but there will be no need of it to put out any spicy hot foods...

tomorrow after pay. pay the rent and bills for march then pick up the rest of the needed items, I hate shopping
I sold my perfume on Craigslist for $25 and in return, I purchased a Lagostina deep dish saute pan from Costco. LOVE my pan. I really needed one that was non-stick. My other frying pans suck.
Also got baby a jolly jumper. He loves jumping in it. It hangs on our door frame.
Parmesan cheese is so expensive! I needed one wedge for a recipe tomorrow and it was $5, just for a small wedge!!
I agree Purelife Parmesan is way to expensive, but it is a needed item in some dishes.
today a donut and coffee at Tim Hortons
I'm not a fan of non-stick pans at all. Give me stainless or nothing. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif)
Oranges, Apples, Salmon, Carrots, Ham, Chocolate - and I forgot to get any bread!
I have a 8 CM stainless one PC I love it, anice thick base. good and sturdy now that it is burnt in and been used a few dozen times it is lost it's sweet shine but when u need to cook just a couple of small items ie 2 eggs or 4 sausages or a single hamburger patty it is the bomb. Add a bit of olive or other vegetable oil one likes to the pan use a low heat to warm the pan then up to high for a few seconds then back off the heat everything fries right.
'
the trick is to warm the pan and oil to a nice temp add ones meat to sear it on both sides then fry it at a medium to low heat to perfection... similar to grilling sear it then lower the heat for the full cook
The only problem I have with Stainless frying pans is the general cost of a good one, loads of cheap ones around but not worth it to buy a cheap one that will last 1 to 2 years at most. and maybe even less if it warps or the handle falls apart or like I had happen once the pan literally cracked. How I managed to do that, I will never really know. Probably a flaw in the product, which is my best guess. I added a bit of cold water to a fry up, to help steam my veggies and pop the pan cracked...
Worst of all when it comes to anything stainless is the cleaning of them, they are a nightmare if you burn anything in them. I am a fair cook. but even I burn things at times, but thankfully unlike a nonstick a good stainless steel pot or pan can be cleaned and recovered for reuse. Burn something baad enough in stainless aluminum or a nonstick pan and they can be considered a write off.
that 8 CM frying pan costs over 50 dollars (I got it for free) , the 28 cm I wanted to buy costs close to 100. but you do get what you pay for. but my money is not much so when it comes to the kitchen I can not afford extravagance but I still want quality, this is a set If it can be found locally, I am wanting to get to replace my kitchen and it is in serious need of being replaced (except that small frying pan)
[a href="http://www.shopworldkitchen.com/index.asp?pageid=231&upc=70950046076"]
For a well known name in cooking this 10 piece set is fair priced at 180 USD[/a]
if any one knows of a good set on sale in the local vancouver area. post the information please.
I am mid thoughts on consider a cheap 30 dollar set at London drugs as a emergency tide me over till I can afford to replace my cookware with a good set of tools. unless some one else knows of better at reasonable prices. 200 is to much right now =( hell even 100 is. but i need a good stock pot a beter large frying pan to go with my good small one. a decent sauce pan and a good dutch oven plus a nice stewing pot would be a god send. sighs lets not forget the broiler pans and other needed items for baking.. damn... the whole kitchen needs trashing the kitchen counter has to be replaced serious need for a small apartment sized deep freezer.
It is better to buy in bulk then precook and freeze some meals for a month or two, Then when you have need you can just take out and defrost (reheat in a microwave if to impatient to wait over night). this way one is less likely to buy premade meals or junk food. ... This kitchen has need of a new oven prefferably one with working temerature gauges. a window i can actually look through to check the condition of a roasting chicken with out opening the door.... love to take out the linolium and replace it with some thing thaty has less holes in it too.,
all things that need to be fixed. some I have to pay for the rest is the landlords responisbility. but cost is a issue these days.. grabs belt tightens it a notch. at least I have enough hours for EI just have to be patient on the first check.
ahh well i am rambling and no one wants to read 5 paragraphs of my rambling LOL honestly how many read all of what i write ?
I love my Stainless too Orik. Mine are about 10 years old, and look as shiny and new as if I bought them yesterday. The trick is to never use an abrasive cleaning pad on them. I only use the powdered stainless cleaner, which works on the toughest mess.
As for non-stick...a stainless pan is as non-stick as you can get, providing you are putting food into a properly preheated pan. Putting food into a cool or warm pan is what causes sticking.
If your pans have taken on a blueish hue from burning, you can get rid of it by bringing flat CocaCola to a boil in it. Shiny as new.
Thank you PC I will try that trick as soon as possible. Do you think the Presidents Choice generic cola is going to work as good as coke and does it have to be flat first ?...cause I've got a bottle in the fridge right now. ? but if it doesn't matter then their's no need to let it go flat first. I hate that blueish look to my stainless. now if only there was a way to make the copper base looks like new.
the nice thing is if i buy some ginger and lemon to cut up and add to that cola for the last 3 minutes of it being on a simmering boil. you can make a very delicious drink. once you let it get cold that is, i am not a fan of it hot unless I am sick...
but if you add a bit of honey to that coke ginger and lemon when it is hot, you get a soothing homemade cold relief... the ginger, honey, lemon and coke are so nice on the sore throat and it helps clear the sinuses some. I learned of that trick form a chinese guy at work. blew my mind how well it did work and how good it tasted hot... I had expected it to be rather nasty. I mean who ever heard of drinking Hot Coca Cola or hot DR Pepper for that matter. though some guys swear buy the stuff.
If I had the money, I would be buying stainless steel pots/pans and cast iron. I have my eye on the paderno set from costco. I think it's a good brand.
Oh well....
purchased pack of onesies from Costco. this babe is growing like a weed!!
I hear you purelife... they grow like weeds trouble is they wont become worth while till about 14 then they can start contributing to the family finances. but think of all the joy and harrow as they grow up... the pride you will have when they have that first successful potty and the first horror the first time he glues his dirty nappy to the wall... well anyways enjoy it... I hear it does get better and worse and then better....
did you have any luck finding the leak ?

Awesome! Glad to hear he's healthy and strong.
I'm not positive that you need a whole set of pots, purelife. I know that I'm no gourmet cook, but I only use about 3 pots on a regular basis: frying pan, pasta pot, med sized saucepan.
I probably have too many pots and pans then. I have two full sets, plus some special pots that I bought separately. I swear sometimes I still don't have exactly the right pan for a particular job. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif)
A load of stamps.
How many stamps are in a load again ?
is a load of stamps the same thing as a packet of stamps.? I know that there's 10 stamps in a small packet for 5.71
and I think a roll of stamps is 100 or is it 1000 not sure now...
i bought dental services yesterday and for dinner after the freezing wore off I bought from that little organic indian bakery place on commercial across the street from the pizza garden. kitty corner to megabyte pizza what I purchased was 2 Pakora's they were nice but i found them a little sweet.
From what my friends had described I had expected more of a hot curry potato punch than the mild sweet yellow pepper flavour I was a little disappointed. I think I would of been better off buying a couple of the curry potato samosas which are packed with peas and onion which is better than the pakora in my opinion at any rate.
The pakora had nice texture crispy outside nice soft inside but so does a samosa and IMHO a samosa is 5 times more flavourful than the bland sweet pakora. Thea small corn black bean salad with red onion and diced cherry tomatoes ( it needed more tomatoes and less oil mix I think it would of been better had they used a Roma tomato. the corn is sweet enough with out using a cherry tomato)
The chocolate bliss ball for desert, was rich and sweet...absolutely sheer bliss, just like its name suggests... But it is not worth the 2.50 they charge for the thing. for 2.50 I could of bought 4 hazelnut hedgehogs from Purdys for 3.00 just as an example in price comparison and every one knows Purdy's is decadence when it comes to chocolate... well this place is nice but over priced in my opinion... there are better places on Commercial drive to spend your money avoid this over priced place if you are on a budget.
And if any one else has suggestions for good eats on commercial similar to this place... fire them off I hope to find some more places to eat at... mind the pocket book I am on a seveer budget.

Some libraries also have great book sales too, SD. All dirt cheap!!
Yeah! Although I'm looking into really specifics and I went to the VPL's book sell and I'm not into romance novels. I was really impressed with VPL's online help system of talking to librarians online and they'd look up books for you. To see what they were capable of I gave them an obsecure topic that I knew wouldn't be in an American public library. But sure enough, they had a lot of books on "swedish politics from the post-war era" so I am a believer.

I went to costco for some groceries with my dad.
We came home with an 8 x 10 shed. Didnt get half the groceries my gf sent us to get.
I am currently on a break, but after starting to erect it, then take it down a few times... going to be putting in 24 x 24 in concrete slabs as the base. Theres a lot more room in this thing than I thought. Had to move my two composters as well.. grr.
omg Russ Russ Russ.
Can you even imagine life if you ever had your Costco card revoked for any reason ? (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif)
Those sheds are pretty roomy alright.
Lived in one for a few months. they are plenty roomy.

Morning DDD.
Yeah, those temporary garage things arent the best. We went through three covers over the frame under warranty cause they kept breaking.
We finally put a tarp overtop of the cover, then ropes surround the tarp and tied down to eyes we drilled into our driveway. For a bit we had 5 gallon pails full of sand tied to ropes holding down the frame.. then teh canvasses started to rip and fly away with the frame staying in position.
It took us months to get to that point.. then we finished fixing the boat and took it off. Havent used it since. lol.
Got the shed done, now building shelves inside the unit. Bit mad at ikea right now. Gave us the wrong info and we bought some wrong stuff for it. Didnt really lose any money but didnt save as much as we were supposed to. Ah well, it will all work out in the end.
Got info from my company that airports should be opening up tomorrow so I could be flying tomorrow.

Yours sound neat! Which one is that one? I saw one at Costco but wasn't sure if it was good. Was it that one you purchased?
I had to ask miss SS. I couldnt remember after you mentioned my sickness.. costco.
It was apparently Walmart we bought it.. for 11 bucks.
It however is one of the ones with a mechanical gear ratio that we have to spin it, through the gear reduction to spin the basket inside.

I went on a trip to Tennessee for a car show type of weekend thing. One of the shopping centers had them. I had to pay for the cage and food only. The crab, extra shell, rocks, watering tree were all free. The shell on the crab I have is painted like a lady bug. I also bought one for my younger cousin. The shell on her crab is painted like a dolphin. You can prbably get them online too but it would be considered an adoption. That's how it was for the turtle I have.

Keyboard. got it cheap but it sticks and the keyboard spring is shot. I will try to fix it but it will probably be just trash :( otherwise this is 60 dollar gaming keyboard and I got it for 3 dollars at a thrift store on Hastings... what a shame the space bar is shot... but iof i can fix it, it is an amazing bargain cause thats the only problem with it.. and if not I''m out 3 dollars
the thrift store is all sales are finale, no exchange, or store credit or refunds... and they have no way to test anything they sell. Consider this They do not pretest what they put out for sale... It makes me wonder if that is even legal to sell things they have not tested and doubly so if they sell none tested merchandise with no exchange or store credit or returns.. just how can that be legal grrr...

LM.. LOL, trying to avoid the shanty town look.. put the black coroboards up to keep people from looking in the back gate at all of my stuff.. and to prevent the scrap guys that drive up and down the alleys from seeing stuff I have at teh side and hop the fence to 'help' me get rid of junk. Or so I was told when I caught someone in my backyard.
More like time to lay the boots to the guy trying to steal off your property... Or you could call the cops.. but it is better to leave them in a bloody heap. word gets out to the street you beat the hell out of thieves there is a form of honor amongst thieves... they would rather go to jail pretty much get out the same day than get stitches or worse... ...
Ohh I am working for a junk yard doing scrap removal... No you are a thief and I am gonna kick the living shit out of you... he has 2 choices run fast or fight.. and since you are a tall man with a lean build, he is apt to run very fast..
What did I buy last?
Groceries
$50 later at Ikea, purchased highchair with tray, set of plastic bowls and hooded bath towel.
Ibuprofen
Deluxe Burger with Cheese and under cooked fries... My favorite food on the fly joint ruined my day. The normal crispy fries were soggy under cooked and fit for the pit leaving me hungry and disappointed. Burger was over cooked very unsatisfying cheap processed cheese instead of the normal cheddar...
The next time I am in there, I am going to have to lodge a compliant and find out if they have a new trainee in the kitchen, cause this sub par meal just wont cut the mustard... If they changed over to processed cheese, I can live with that, I will just order it with out cheese, next time. Home style French fry's, need to be blanched, then time to be cooled and drained on the rack for at least 15 minutes, before you deep fry them till golden brown. Which is about 3 to 5 minutes depending on the fryer.
Sighs.... to many years in a kitchen...

Good morning Russ =)
Is there anyway you can confirm payment has been made before you get there so you can avoid all that hassel?
I guess there could be, but I was given 4 hours notice on flying so I was busy last minute checking and packing my stuff then out the door. I had a confirmation of a reservation from my company and I thought it was all covered.. but they only reserved, lol.
It wouldnt be that messed up normally but with the volcano, everythings been a mess in the personel movements office.

No. But there have been later buys:
Oats, biscuits and bread.
1 250 gram bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos
1 2 liter container of Cherry vanilla ice cream
2 2 liter bottles of raspberry ginger-ale
2 boxes of Indulgence Belgium Chocolate & caramel covered cashews. They are Just like Turtles but 1/2 the price and twice as good.
2 liters of skim milk
1 loaf of banana bread ( sweet and delicious) put in the fridge for later...I had to stop myself from eating it all just to good when it's this fresh..
12 hot dog buns I cut them in half & freeze them for later
12 Dinner rolls. small trick with the dinner rolls if you cut them in half and add garlic butter before freezing them. this way when company is over for dinner you remove from freezer 30 minutes before dinner is ready and just before you serve dinner place them under the broiler for a 1-2 minutes until they are golden, serve with dinner yummy crispy out side, garlicky and buttery soft inside...
1 Jar of Mayonnaise
6 medium sized carrots
4 orange tomatoes
4 red tomatoes
6 green chilies
2 red chilies
4 x 100 ml lemons of organic lemon juice (edit they are 100 ml size not 255)
1 glass bottle of DNB root beer
1 T-fall pot... non stick, not my favorite but I needed a new simmering pot... and the 7 dollar price tag made it a fair bargain.

I have a hell of a time with "one socks" I just don't get where they go. If I do laundry and can't find the mate to some socks I throw them in a bag and hope they show up in the next load.
then every once in a while I dump the bag and see if I have any matching pairs.
Aaaaah. I have many "half sock" piles.
Ah yes, the dreaded singles club. I solved that problem a long time ago. I couldn't take it any more.
I buy 20 pairs of white socks all the same style and 20 pairs of black socks all the same style. They last much much longer and I never know who is single.
so...you started a swingers' club?
It was the least I could do. So many singles with no hope of ever hooking up. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
I remember many many years back, I took my washing machine apart. I mean seriously apart, because I was convinced it was hoarding them somewhere. What a disaster that was.

I thought your liver damage was caused by your binge drinking?
What binge drinking ? I rarely drank. If I did drink it was a pint here or a pint there and that is by no means near enough to cause liver failure. This damage was done by a unknown virus. What the virus was, they are not sure of and why it only went after the liver, they also do not know. Science and medicine have progressed quite a ways, however there are still many things they just don't have answers to.

But is it gone? as for the bullet thing I hear yea there
I think it is messed up that so many people are not organ donors. Most of their reasons are just ridiculous. They'll say they don't know how, they haven't gotten around to it, they are not super young and healthy so their organs are no good, they want to be fully intact when they are chucked into a casket for years of rotting... argh!
I am a registered organ donor, but I'd like to donate everything... blood, organs, skin, eyes, hair, etc. Anything that can be used, they should use it... just cremate me after. I think they let the family decide about hair and eyes and other external things, so my family better be listening to me when I tell them I want to donate everything and be cremated.
D. They Don't know if it is gone or just waiting on the side lines to jump me when I least expect it =( I had a second attack in June a few months after the first attack, they thought I was on the mend, all signs had pointed that way at any rate. The next thing I knew, I was back in the hospital and sicker than the first time.
The damage at this point in time to my liver was severe. They did a second liver biopsy and found the internal damage was almost 75 percent more cirrhosis fibrosis (thats just a fancy way of saying scar tissue) than the previous biopsy. To this day they do not know what caused the first attack of hepatitis.
The etiology or is it entomology, anyways, whatever they want to call it. Is from a unknown cause the first time nor do they know what caused it the second time. I have tested negative for all the Common & uncommon forms of hepatitis. Whatever it was, well it might be gone or it might come back again.
They just don't have any real answers for me, at least none that they can give me, with what is known in modern science today. That does not mean they might not find a answer tomorrow... What I do know is this. Autoimmune hepatitis is the most serious and complex as there is no definitive reason for why the immune system attacks the liver.
What else I do know is that the Necrosis (death) of my liver cells brought on by the inflammation and fibrosis may lead to liver failure. Well that has happened to me twice. I defied the odds and by Gods grace I survived. In most cases Death within 5 years of onset occurs in 40 to 50% of patients. That is the outlook of my life...
I have survived since October 2007 (possibly the first time liver failure began) If things go the way in the text books I may be one of the 50 to 60 % to survive for a long time. Or I could be unfortunate & have liver failure brought on by another bout of of a autoimmune form of hepatitis and end up dead a few days after it starts.
Now you know as much as I do.

Again I have no clue what you just said right there ..lol. I do remember the bigger monitors. Funny how at the time, it was the best thing ever. With all the advancements we have now, it seems embarrassing to even admit you had one.

A book at a used bookstore, and then the cashier told me that the stuff I'm looking for is at the other location. So off I go -- eventually.
I am still stuck on the KEG of BEER............
Macadamia Nut Short bread Cookies. 2 X 1.75 L Oasis Premium Orange juice (Without Pulp) the Fresh Squeezed variety. I Just noticed though the best before date on them is only 2 days. I Love this Orange juice but I am not sure I can drink it all before it goes off.
Maybe I should Freeze some in the Ice Cube Trays ? I love this juice but wish it had a longer expiration date. =( I also wish the store had the Wildberry flavor which is in my humble opinion just totally awesum.. Ah well for 2 dollars the orange juice is still wickedly good. Sipps from the frosted beer stien filled with icy orange juice and smiles happily

We have met once, lol for coffee at a starbucks. Good talk, we both were in sea cadets in our pasts. Different times but similar memories.
I agree with you D.. Im, still stuck on the keg.. but I have to wait another two weeks. Around abouts anyhow. I normally go through a keg every 2-3 weeks during the warmer months when Im home due to all the friends that stop by. Their wives g/fs like it for they arent at the bar and are usually close to home so when they call, the guys can skedaddle.

Hello Hello!
It's been a long few weeks. Damn HST has me putting in long hours at work.
I did make it on a supplier's dinner cruise a few weeks ago. Good times. I was still drunk the next morning. I made it to work to open the office, but went home as soon as reinforcements arrived. I was back in bed by 11am.
Went away this weekend with Scouts. Had an amazing last camping trip of the year on the Sunshine Coast.
*cheers*
^^^^
this was intended for the LUNCH thread!
My last purchase was ingredients for an easy supper. Minute rice, pkg of ground turkey, pkg of frozen peas.

Speaking of buying things, anyone have any experience with survellience cameras?
Marty wrote:

A little. What do you need it to do? Indoor, outdoor, night-capable....
One camera. Night/low light capable. Preferably indoor but view of outdoor through a window (glare?). Recordable preferably wireless streaming. Motion activated. I need it to be high enough quality to get an image where a person can be identified with.
For the record, I am not stalking someone. I am having some issues with some punk ass kids in my neighbourhood causing mischief and I want to catch the little turds in the act.
I also want to know if I need additional equipment or if they make a stand alone camera that can do all of the above.
Marty wrote:

You might look at IP-enabled cameras...a bit on the expensive side, but they can stream video to a PC which can record it and trigger on movement:
[a href="http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=off&q=ip+based+web+camera&revid=762941007&sa=X&ei=UCBQTLNHitS1A7zQwL4H&ved=0CFMQ1QIoAA&fp=ea7fba01c8c35813"]IP based web cameras[/a]
That's what I was looking at. I just wanted to make sure I didn't need a converter box or anything like that.

I have 5 around my place set up. Have caught people in the act but trying to find out who they are is a different story.....
Go high end as the ones that where cheaper would not buy again
You have a brand preference or system preference? And on your cameras, can you actually see faces? Identifying them once I have an image won't be a problem.
Marty wrote:

[P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal]I just let my Electrician pick out everything. You have no problem picking out faces as for how clear all depends on the distance away from the camera. I have it set up that I can print it out to a colour print (high end) and they can be just as good a picture from my camera. I was having some issues and once I installed them (you can see them) 99% stopped.
So what's happening is we have these little punks who like to bang on my bay window at 2am. Last time, they chucked a Slurpee at my door. They've done it twice already so I have a feeling they'll be back. When they come back for round three, I want to have them on camera. I don't want them to know it's there because I want to bust them in the act. Then I will find out who they are and deal with them.
My idea is to mount a camera on the corner inside of my big bay so that it points across my lawn and when they come up to the window I'll get em on video.
I was looking at stand alone cameras because I don't need a big expensive system and I was concerned about glare.

Lemon juice, a few lemons a couple of limes and a 2 lb bag of sugar..
Would any one like a glass of freshly made Ice cold Semi sweet lemonade =) delicious..
Yes, please. It would go down a treat.
I've just bought (last thing I bought) were some fish and a newspaper.
Any time you are in My area Gopher i would be happy to pour you a tall glass of it.. It goes down so nice on a hot day.. it is even better to wash down a plate of lime chili prawns..
Groceries.
Some precut crown corners.
Cell loads. x 4
Pls tell me your method for making lemonade. I have a big bottle of lemon juice in the fridge and some sugar.
Bought some shorts and tank tops on clearance yesterday at the mall.
Bought Heckyl a t-shirt (2.99) and MrLM a pair of North Face hiking pants (9.99) and Heckyl a couple of comic books at Valu Village tonight.
A Red Box dvd of Alice and Wonderland
1 fresh lemon 1 fresh lime scrub clean. or peel. cut in half squeeze half in to a pitcher of Ice and water cut other half in to rings and add to the pitcher later.. or to individual glasses..
1 cup lemon juice
1 cup sugar
8 cups water 3 cups ice.
If no ice then I use 10 cups of water
Semi sweet lemonade and it has a hint of lime... the secret to a perfect cuppa is to adorn the glasses with a lemon and a lime wedge. something to chew along with your ice..
Meats, Veggies, Fruit. Dessert. Juice, Sugar, Tonic Water. Cheese. Prescription medications & some over the counter vitamins. Surface cleaner... 45 minute trip out and about and 100 dollars gone in 15 minutes.. but I have some freezer goods & some refrigerated goods... but it wont last long =(
Orik, your lemon recipe makes my lips pucker.
Last thing I bought - Green tea
All that much Easier to kiss you then.. LOL.. but why does it make your lips pucker Natasha? The recipe I use is semi sweet, in and of it's self it is not bitter, it is a perfect thirst quecher With the above recipe... Now then Natasha, I can certainly see you doing a lot of puckering up
I can actually see a lot of puckering up going on for any person who goes chewing on the lemon or the lime rings. Cause they alone are very tart, but if chewed first and then washed down by the glass of lemonade, it will make that semi sweet glass of juice, so much sweeter than it actually is. Only cause that wedge it's self is so bitter...
It is also 10 times cheaper to make your own lemonade than it is to buy it.. same thing with fench fries 1 bag of fries 1 kilo's woerth about 5 dollars.. 1 killo of potatoes right now depending which store you go to and what brand you buy will cost from as low as 19 cents to as high as 1.49 a pound. Also take note most stores like Safeway and Super-Value & overweighty (save on foods) are thieves they are charging you 5 times more than most local farmers markets.
FOR GOODNESS SAKE, STOP SUPPORTING STONG'S!!! THEY ARE SO OVER PRICED!!! ALMOST EVERYTHING THEY SELL can be purchased so much cheaper at safeway.. please note Safeway is also one fairly expensive place to shop... < and yes I did mean to shout that bit, just to make sure I have your attention.
so many food items lets take the Price of. 2.99 for a can of Campbell's chunky soup, Trust me when I say Stong's grocery stores are thieves. You can buy all most all the same stuff Stong's sells at Safeway and you will pay from 50 cents to 1 dollar less for many of those same items.
Lets go to produce and deli you will find prices at Safeway 10 to 50 cents less on most of the deli items as well... Usually about 1 to 2 times a month Either, Safeway, London Drugs or Save On Foods will have Campbell's Chunky Soups or some other Canned goods on sale for bargain basement prices.
When those Canned goods are on sale, they will usually have expiration dates 6 months from now.. Stock the hell up & spend a bit more to save a bit more.. Also pull them from the back of the shelf & check the expiration dates on those canned goods. the stuff from the back of the shelf will normally have a better and longer shelf life. First in and first out..
Just because it is on sale at the store does not mean you have to always buy the stock with a shorter shelf life.. I like to keep a minimum of 7 days worth of canned goods in my larder, just in case of some sort of emergency enough food for me. but normally I prefer to keep enough to support 2 people for a minimum of 15 days. But due to financial difficulties of my own I can only afford to keep about 7 days worth in my larder.
I am just that kind of person . It is also the same reason I like to keep at least 2 weeks worth of drinking water in my house. And 2 weeks worth of washing water. more shopping tips later.. And please feel free to share your own..
China town and the local farmer's markets are a great place for produce and some amazing bargains on exotic fruits and vegetables.. It also pays dividends to dry out or dehydrate those summer fruits for winter.
Freeze some and Can some as well, you can buy lots of good fruits now at bargain prices. but they will cost 10 times as much come winter. So freeze and preserve them as best you can for winter use right now. I think Army & navy has a sale on a canning kit and so does Canada tire if I remember correctly..
Please share your shopping tips as well.
Bye for now

I'm sure the recipe is great but I don't drink lemonade.

Heckyl is an anime junkie. Naruto, YuGiOh and Bleach.
Jeckyl reads Archie and Garfield.
My last purchases were: school supplies, new cordless phone, new keyboard.
Heckyl insisted that the old keyboard is a piece of junk and keeps getting jammed. It works fine for me. He said the keystrokes aren't fast enough for his games. Whatever. I type way faster than he does, and I do ok with the old keyboard...
I understand your son's frustrations LM. I finally broke down and bought a second keyboard that one is for my gaming & it has a much faster keystroke, this old one has a slower keystroke and requires more force when typing... Believe it or not Lil_Me there is a world of difference on keyboards and each person should spend time with a few models & styles of keyboards trying to find the ones they like best..
for typing reports and blogging I like a firm keyboard one that requires a little bit of force to hit keys that spring back up. that makes me feel better.
When it comes to gaming I want a soft key board, one that takes no force to type with, it needs to have a fast response & the keys need to be programmable. The Perfect gaming board will respond to a gentle touch. But the board it's self must be rugged enough to take punishment.
My logitech mouse & keyboard for gaming... the mouse is multi purpose and I love it but the keyboard i find is only good for my gaming i can't stand using it for any thing else.
I love my Old HP keyboard for blogging things or for responding to things such as on the forum work live chat & media ... but it is slow I can not respond or work fast enough in many games and that few seconds lost on response times means the difference of surviving longer or an early demise...
to each there own :) u can always do what I did use both keyboards the one that meets your needs and one that meets his..

Dental Services to clean my teeth and to fix a lost filling, finished off with a fluoride treatment.. 200 dollars later..
Aspirin for my aching tooth. A refill on my pain medications, which do nothing to kill the tooth pain but seem to work fine on the knee and back... A chicken dinner with a large Ceaser salad. The salad was horrid. The Chicken was over cooked and tough as cardboard. The mashed potatoes were cold and lumpy. The corn was juicy, piping hot, but needed butter. This was yesterday.
Today was 3 bottles of Twist, 3 loaves of bread. and a couple of cans of diet lemonade Horrible stuff Safeway can not make a decent lemonade.. maybe the problem ios it was semi carbonated or diet... to sweet not tart enough. had almost no lemon flavour was more like a sweet tonic water..
If I got a filling and a cleaning for 200 bucks, I'd consider myself lucky. I must be going to the wrong dentist.
cleaning was 200 filling was free, they think they accidentally broken the front enamel while doing the cleaning. I did not correct them on it. I did ask to try a new cleaner the next time I go back.

Natasha it sound's like you're getting ready for Hell-ooo-ween =D
Well let's see todays shopping trip
1-1 litre Jar of baby dill pickles,
8 navel oranges.
2 bags with 14 rice cakes in each the white cheddar cheese flavour & let me assure you they are thoroughly disgusting in taste. Next time I am buying some plain rice cakes if they have them in because they taste way better than these horrible things.
1-1400 ML, Happy Planet, Organic lemon iced tea.(not bad even if it is rather tart)
2-750 ml organic vegetable broths.
2 chocolate caramel bars.
1 bag of 24 dinner rolls (with sesame seeds)
1 loaf of sour dough (is gonna go great toasted & served to dip with the vegtable broth)
2-1 litre bottles of sparkling lemon water now these are nice and refreshing, not tart, not sweet. They have a very subtle flavour, much better than the Mandarin Orange flavour, which is just horrible in my opinion. But neither is near as good as the Peach which is very good and then their is the Black Cherry which is wickedly good. Only one small problem the peach & black cherry sell out quickly.
1 Jar of Mayonnaise
1 packet of powdered milk
groceries = 18 dollars and 02 cents
1 crossword scratch & win = 2 dollars
Prescription Medications = 48 dollars
grand total = 68 dollars and 2 cents
Sighs not much to show for so much money. I hate spending so much money, for such little things.
No milk, no sugar, no spices, no ketchup, no mustard, no hot sauce, no plum sauce & no jam either. It looks like they were sold out of these items once again. When they do have them in stock, they sell out fast, just like the spices & sugar but they do not get many of these items in. Quest is a great little place for low income people to shop but sometimes the selection is very sparse. they really could do with some larger corporate donations of food stuffs but I like Quest a hell of a lot better than the food bank.. Well thats it for today.

LCD Screen protector for My New 8 GB Sony MP3 Player... I am Loving this replacement, it has nice crisp colours very fast charging (90 percent charged in 30 minutes) has 4 hrs of video but I think that's understated. I am getting from 5 hrs to 6 hrs on video, I think it depends on how it is encoded I use for my basic Video encoding a 320X240 25 fps 600kbps WMV2 encoding format. For the video audio I encode at 128 kbps. this gives me a nice clear video with good sound it also seems to stretch the battery life, a real treat.
I also feel the battery life depends on the settings, such as if you use the clear stereo setting and have the equalizer on ,they will each lower the battery drain by 25 % this will reduce battery life by 50 % some other things people should consider for extending battery life on this player is how loud you have it, also do you have the volume limiter engaged. Some other things will be significant on battery drain such as how many frames your video is playing at 15 - 23 - 25 or 30 & most importantly how bright you have the lcd set at.
The awesome sound level on my Nickleback, Dark horse album it sounds crystal clear and my entire Johnny Cash collection has such wonderful clarity. You can hear everything so well... I forgot how good music can be.
The radio is decent but not great, if you plan to use this indoors let me tell you about that, the radio reception is horrid... Outside it works fine works pretty good on the buses as well. The equilizer is excellent so you can really play around and bring out your music to your own tastes or use one of a half dozen presets. ..
All in all this is a nice all around little player and it was dirt cheap at London Drugs at the corner of Granville & West Georgia, since they got the new Sony models in they put last years models on clearance for really cheap ( and to be honest the NWZ-E344 is a better model IMHO it has some features the new ones they got rid of.. Mind you the new version does offer speakers (all they do is garble the sound in my opinion) They got rid of the excellent head phones and they cut some other things but they offer a greater battery life. (that remains to be seen if the battery life is actually better or not)
I got my last years 8 GB model including the LCD screen protector, for a grand total of 44 dollars.
I buy from Costco or London drugs because they offer a over the counter 1 year exchange warranty and al these other places have such shit warranty coverages. This alone makes most London drugs items a excellent deal..
The LCD Protectors are expensive plastic coverings for the screen but I learned my leson from previous mp3 players that they get so scratched so easy in a pocket full of change it is better to have a cover on it..I love the purple and black ones the red and black ones But I went with the Classic Metallic black sure it collects dust and finger prints far to easy, but it looks sharp..
best 50 dollars I have spent in 6 months...

It can be quite a long and overwhelming task, Orik. It's amazing how spacious a home can become and how light your soul feels when you declutter. You should make doing that every 6mnths a regular process.
Three birthday cards and then I dropped them somewhere on the way home.
Aww that's sad...
Peanut Buttercups...and a coffee. After work will be halloween decorations!!
Three birthday cards (again) and this time I got home without losing them on the way.
^ lol.. bless your heart.
The last thing bought... a small salad
Its not an easy task is it Orik? We are doing that almost daily now with going through stuff we went through a few days before cause we found more stuff. Im getting to the point of buying a bunch of rubbermaids and opening up the crawlspace into my attic and jamming stuff in there.
I dont know how it is with you, but its HARD to get rid of stuff that Ive spent a long time collecting, and then once you get a bunch in one place, to go through it.
The last thing I bought was some stuff at Home Depot. Caulking for baseboard and door trims, new nail puller cause I used mine for something its not meant for and now need a new one, and box of 1 1/4" finishing nails. Ridgid 12" sliding compound mitre saw with laser, mounted on a stand. That thing is massive, bigger than I was expecting. I had the theory to buy something good and did everything so I wouldnt have to get something else, unfortunately I could build a house with this thing and needs two people to move it.
Sensodyne toothpaste from London Drugs.

Groceries
18 pork steaks
Do you end up freezing most of them, Gophie?
I purchased a black/gray horizontal striped sweater, necklace and pair of earrings from Smart Set. I'm not sure why but I really like the horizontal lines. I have about 3 tops with horizontal-lined pattern. But where I draw the line is horizontal-lined pants for me. :P
Yes, and I also bought 12 chicken thighs (also gone into the freezer).
Bought fireworks last night. Ran out and went back with a few friends that showed up at my place and bought some more at clearance.
Its now 430pm and Im still hung over. Starting marguerita's at 2am after drinking beer the whole night is not the smartest thing Ive ever done. I also discovered one of my friends had stayed the night. Half an hour ago when I went into my spare bedroom in the downstairs 'man cave'. I now have a picture of him snoring half clothed with his arms wrapped around a pink elephant. Oh to facebook or not to facebook...
I got a couple packages of chicken theighs and sausages that I downsized from teh large econo packages. When I package them into sets of 6 for chicken and 3 for sausages.. I marinate the theighs for a day then freeze them. Do you both do this as well? Or do you just separate and freeze them?
I had to laugh PL when you wrote that.. I am using sensodyne as well.
I just thought of something. Today is monday.. I really hope my buddy who is still refusing to get up didnt have to work today.

Good morning PC, its been ages.
I know. Changed up my routine. Decided I was getting into a pattern that was a little too much like a rut. Plus I've been doing a lot of house stuff. Played around with the notion of selling the house this summer, and have finally decided to give it a shot in the spring. So some decluttering is in order. How time consuming !
I had the feeling you'd probably sold it and were currently moving into somwhere new!
Couldn't do it. Got as far as having a realtor in and I couldn't handle it. As I got closer to realizing it was becoming a reality, I cried and cried and cried at the thought of leaving here. Decided I just wasn't ready. May not be in the spring either. It's hard to leave a place you love.

Thank you, she's a great kid. Kind hearted, well mannered, well behaved, silly, does great in school, does charity work... so she deserves a good gift every now and then. She decided on a Super Mario game because she found a carry case that looks like the outfit he wears :)
You did well raising her Natasha! :) Any secrets or tips?
Secrets or tips.. hmm. We are mother/daughter and best friends. The trick is knowing when I need to be - have to be mom and when I can be her best friend. Correct any bad manners or bad behavior at an early age... seems harsh but it totally works. I never tell her "do as I say, not as I do". Always try to lead by example. At an early age instill the importance of a good education (she's already preparing for college.. at age 10!) Be active in every aspect of the childs life. I don't hover and I don't attend every outting (if there are other adults) but I think it's good for her to know that I'm interested in her life. I'm willing to stop whatever Im doing if she needs me... especially to talk. Keep it real. I don't allow my daughter to know the nitty gritty details of certain situations.. she is a kid afterall... but she does need to know that sometimes life is going to get hard... be it with family, school, friends and there ways to positively handle those situations. Having bad feelings or thoughts isn't wrong. We're all human, we all have them. The difference is knowing how to handle it. Everyone makes mistakes so I don't let her feel bad is something goes wrong... but I do try to make sure she's learned a lesson from that mistake. Charity work is a wonderful positive way to remind us of what we have and to be grateful for it. Plus seeing the gratitude from others is such a blessing. Teaching kids financial responsibility is very important. I opened a savings account for her when she was 5. For the past couple of years, shes had an active part in every aspect of that account. We have our own little system worked out. She has two piggy banks in her room. One for fun, one for the savings. She earns her money then divides it into both piggys. When they fill up I drive her to the bank to deposit her bank money. Then we leave there so she can go crazy with her fun money :) which leads me to fun. She's a kid and I want her to enjoy that as much as possible. After the seriousness of school and/or chores is over, it's time to just be silly and be a kid. I know it seems like I'm overloading her but it's really not like that at all. She only has chores on non-school days. On school days I prefer she concentrate on shcool stuff only. This way she spends so much time on the priority for that day and the rest of the day is fun.
For the most part, I'm just blessed. She's always been an easy going kid, easy baby to care for, has a good heart, kind spirit. Most of what she is isn't because of me. It's because Jesus gave her to me that way :) She's everything I've prayed for and more. I let her know everyday that I love her all the sky, I'm here for her no matter what happens. I guess love is what it really boils down to. Everything else is just simple guidance.
I totally agree with you and I hope to have a friendship with my son as well as being his mother. I also don't believe in terrible two's and when I tell other parents that, they give me the "are you crazy?!" look. I know children act up, have tantrums and such but I believe there is a reason. They are either learning from their environment or about themselves or testing their parents. It's a matter of how we handle these situations.
I'm a firm believer of being patient and calm whenever possible around my child. If he is crying or fussing in the mall due to being tired, I remain calm so that he doesn't scream even more. If I yell at him, it would just make matters worse.
I've been lucky with having a child who doesn't have tantrums and is a happy-go-lucky, calm and quiet kid.
I never understood the "terrible twos". They seemed pretty normal on my end. I even tell people they were more like the "terrific twos" :)

Same here I think it is all how you look at it....................I wish I could go back to that time was great
2 bags of corn chips.
2 cans of re-fried beans
2 cans of kidney beans
4 cans beef consume
3 cans of tomatoes
3 large onions
1 bundle of green onions
10 1 liter bottles of peach sparkling water
12 355 ml cans of orange soda
2 lbs extra lean ground beef
2 lbs regular ground beef
3 lbs sausage (british bangers)
5 lbs chicken wings
2 lbs chicken thighs
12 hot dogs
9 mini peperoni sticks
2 packets of cheese slices
1 instant taco kit
9 packets of beef mr noodles
1 900 gram packet of spaghetti
2 jars of ragu pasta sauce
16 hamburger buns
8 dinner rolls
1 loaf of bread
that's all I could cart home in 3 trips by bicycle. I also ran out of money. My fridge and freezer are looking nicely full now but there is not much in the cupboards. I still need about 5 lbs of rice and between 2 to 3 kg of corn, and 2 - 3 lbs mixed veg. dish-washing soap, laundry detergent also still required is
That's quite a list.
Gopher, That's just the beginning of the shopping trip. I will still need to spend about 150 to 300 dollars on basic staples. Which will be the usual dehydrated fruits and vegetables. Then there's the frozen goods plus the sundries, lets not forget the salted or canned goods.
I still have to refill the pantry it is completely barren.
I like to have between 2 to 3 months worth of canned & dried food in my storage cabinets and about 1 months worth of frozen meats. I really do try to be well prepared. I like to keep approximately 1 months worth of water on hand. i keep a decent first aid kit & necessary medications. Then there is some other things I keep. A Sewing kit for clothing & 1 for people.
I seem to have misplaced my portable propane stove and that is going to cost a pretty penny to replace. A portable radio and flashlight.with hand crank. By doing 3 minutes of cranking it will give you 2 hours of light or 1 hour light and radio. I also have the solar power recharger.
Gopher in case of an emergency can you support your family & self for a minimum of 7 days ?
I like to think I can do so and for longer than 1 month when I plan the shopping correctly.
Survival is the name of the game and I for one wish to survive. You may also wish to think about having some form of device for self defense against the worst sort of animals. a scared and hungry man. A hunting slingshot, a crossbow or a shotgun are all great for self-defense. only the shotgun needs to be registered.

Gopher in case of an emergency can you support your family & self for a minimum of 7 days ?
......................
Yes, two freezers are packed to the limit.
Excellent. I trust that you already have a few pounds of dried beans & rice on hand to go with the freeze dried and dehydrated goods. A good mixture of fruits, vegetables & meats is vital to maintain health.
I trust you have enough emergency medications for the family's medical kit and basic equipment such as a sterilized kit containing a scalpel scissors gauze needles and thread. You probably have Bottled water on hand for drinking and taking a field bath then.
What about a generator and the fuel to run them for up to 1 month? You may need to run those freezers if you drop off the power grid for a while. If you want to plan for a worst case scenario then you should have enough fuel to last a minimum of 3 months. Depending on the storage method you choose to use, you may need to filter the fuel before using it.
What about B.O.B? Do you have the family's bug out bags on hand if you need to evacuate for whatever reason?
Initial costs to start up a family survival kit, are a bit high but once you do have it built. It then becomes much easier to maintain and for next to nothing. You will need to remember to swap out certain food items every 3 months or so to keep the kit in good order. Other things like the drinking water will need to be swapped out every 6 months if it is water you bottled yourself or once every 2 years if bought from a local water company.
Apples, salmon, butter and corned beef.

From the First United Church on East Hastings.
Which is very low on food donations. This seems to become more of a problem. More people sign up for the food hampers but the donations are not very big.. Less food to go around. First united could really use some canned food donations consisting of basic items such as Peanut butter. Canned Beans & meats such as tuna & ham Assorted fruits & vegetables. I think those have to be canned as well, I do not think they give out much in fresh produce at least I have never received any but this was my first time asking them for help..
I Didn't buy it but somebody did & they donated it to the church. I get 1 food hamper, I am not sure how often, I think it is once a month type thing. This is what was in the one I received last Monday..
1 can vegetable soup.
2 cans mushroom soup
1 packet Mr noodles
2 boxes no name macaroni & cheese
1 can tuna
1 can pork & beans in molasses
1 can chickpeas
1 can alphagettie the letter shaped pasta in tomato sauce
It, Lasted until yesterday. When I ate the last packet of Mr noodles
So I have till Friday 12:30 -2PM when I can go to the food bank on kingsway.

The store keeper said most people think he's a stuffed dead cat.

We bought LOTS of toys for Little K when we were down in Oregon. Thank goodness she gets an exemption. Shes now got more toys that have some sort of educational value than I ever had.
Also the VERY last thing I bought was the ferry ticket for the ride over the ferry towing my boat. Because my boat was wider than the normal allowed, but NOT bigger than the lane margins didnt matter, it was 320 one way. It was crazy, I had to insure the trailer for a year (trailer was narrow enough), then buy an oversized day permit (15 bucks) because of the sides of the boat, and had to have three red flags per side. Nothing else and no other worries, lady told me not to hit anything though. Then I hit the ferry...
Both, Russ.

Thanks. Exactly D but it could lead to a change in career if everything plays out as it should. It can at least give me the freedom to work from home on my own schedule.

3 lbs chicken thighs
2 lbs pork bite
1 large bag of pasta (about 2 lbs worth)
3 cans tomato sauce
1 can mushroom soup
2 cans vegetable soup
2- 1 liter packages of chicken broth
250 mls ketchup
1 2lb bag of mixed dried beans
I still need
24 hot dog buns 24 hot dogs, 5 lbs of hamburger. 5 lbs rice. 1 lb lentils. 1 lb pearl barely. 1 800 ml jar of mayo,
5 cans of tuna 5 lbs of mixed vegetables. 5 lbs russet potatoes. 2 lbs onions 2 lbs of seasonal fruit
1 dozen eggs & 1 lb of butter. Sadly I lack the finances to get it all at this time. So it will be back to the food bank

Hope your headache went away and you were able to get some peaceful nights sleep, Natasha. :)
1.5 lbs regular ground round. This meat was a Total rip off there was over a half pound of fat enough to fill up a whole pop can once it was done cooking. and for that they wanted 1.99 a lb more like 50 cents worth of meat in a pound I feel ripped off.
6 hamburger buns. but only had enough meat to make 4 once I was done cooking.
12 hot dogs
1.5 lb bag of mixed dry beans
12 cans of no name ginger-ale for 3.00 it would of been cheaper to get 2-2L bottles instead.
1 can of Chickpeas
2 boxes mac & cheese generic no name variety
2. 1 lb bags of a Italian ribbon shaped noodle. I am not sure of the name or type just yet. I need to translate the Italian first.
2 cans of sweet-peas
2 cans of vegetable soup
2 cans of vegetable, grains & bean soup
1 Lb Chicken thighs
2 Lb pork bite
1 dozen eggs
1 lb pirogi's onion & potato
1 liter sweet potato soup
1/2 lb roast beef
1 packet cheese slices
I Ran out of money, so I ended my shopping trip. all in all not a bad haul for 65 dollars. But then again it's not that much worth of food either.
A dollar does not go very far these days. The worst part is the butchers bill 4 dollars for a dozen eggs when the hell did they get so expensiveness. That price of 2 dollars a pound for some really low grade fatty regular ground hamburger pissed me off the most. I so want to take that can of God Damned fat and dump it on the butchers counter and demand a freaking refund.
That meat was not fit to feed to a God Damned dog. there was more fat than meat in it.. GRRRRR
Chicken 3.49 a lb ouch I remember when it used to be 2.39 for chicken thighs this time last summer.
4GB Memory Stick

Thank you so much. Wish I could say I did but last night I only slept 3 hrs. This time because I was too emotionally bruised to rest. If it's not one thing, it's another. Maybe I'll do better tonight.
Oh dear Natasha. Take your time. Emotional stress does take a while to heal... I do hope you are able to get some rest soon. I know this is so cliche but it's so true "When the tough gets going, the going gets tough." I feel that you're a strong person and I know you will get through this in due time. :) *hugz*

A little better. Thank you for asking. Still not getting enough sleep and my eyelids are showing it. No time to rest now either. Have laundry to finish, dinner to cook and kids practiceses to attend.
