Title: Height Question.
Post by: Sparkleface on Mar 15 07 05:01
Okay, so I am 5 foot 5 and that's considered 'average' height here. I am going to be moving to Japan shortly, would 5 foot 5 for a women be tall there?

Any info would be great. Thanks.

You'll be taller than the average by about an inch or so, according to WikiPedia:

[a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height"]The average height of a Japanese female is 5' 2.4"[/a]  (scroll down)

Actually a *lot* of Japanese women wear high heels, so just wear flats and you'll hardly be noticed. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/14.gif)

Yes SD.  We know that you're tall and have big feet. ;)

Sparkleface, you'll do just fine over at Japan.  Enjoy the boys, clothes, shoes and sushi. ;)

Size in hands and feet don't matter.  All that matters is the size of your wallet. ;)...just kidding... I meant the heart.  Bigger the heart, the better.

I've been pondering how to say this correctly all day.

I'm thinking you should wear your 'tallness' (which isn't of Amazon proportions) with pride.  Asian beauties here are noticed not only for their beauty, but for their delicate proportions.  Would not the same contrast be noticed for it's beauty there?  Just a thought.

Be proud...be confident....be kind.  How could you not fit in admirably?

you aren't going to stand out when you're 5'-5".  I'm almost 6' tall and when I was there a couple of years ago there were many young japanese women in the streets that I didn't have to look too far down to.  I know they were over 5'-2" because that's my wife height, and they were taller than her.

Yeah what 49er said, you aren't going to stand out. I'm about 5'9 and I barely noticed the difference when I was there last year.
