Thought maybe we could have a place to say good morning and shoot the sh*t instead of hijacking another lovely thread.
So...
GOOD MORNING ALL!
Morning, my lady. I can't hang around much as I've got to go grocery shopping so I'm just stopping by to bring you a cup of coffee to start the day.
TTYL, kiddo.

Ahhhh. Thank you soooo much Lise! It's almost too pretty to drink but I need it so... down the hatch.
Have a great day!
While there are a few minutes left of the morning, I'd like to say Good Morning to you too. How are your lovely doggies?
Good morning to you, Purelife. How are your pom-poms?
Hi Gopher.
Two minutes until my morning is over. YES!
My poms poms are resting at the moment. They've beent through a lot. ;)
Ah well, give them a little rest and they'll be raring to go again before long.
How are you doing this afternoon, Gopher?
How am I doing? Pretty well I think - especially as I'm popping off for a beer in a minute or so. Any objections if I raise my glass to your pom-poms? Maybe it'll restimulate them.
LOL. How about if I join you for beer? ;)
Have you been posting in DV? What was your poster name? You sound too familiar...and my memory is failing me. :(
Afternoon, all. Geez.... it's past noon already. Where does the time fly?
How am I doing? Pretty well I think - especially as I'm popping off for a beer in a minute or so. Any objections if I raise my glass to your pom-poms? Maybe it'll restimulate them.
OH MY. X-rated on DS. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/9.gif) Mind if I join you, Gopher and celebrate the greatest pom-poms that ever walked the face of the earth?[/DIV]
I'm lost??? Pom Pom's????
SD. Use your imagination. Purelife's pom-poms. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/4.gif)

ahh i see......
Oh dear. This thread turned naughty quite quickly. It wasn't my intention... honest. *evil grin*
Hello to you dear kitten. My puppies are good. The little one had an ear infection but it is all cleared up now, thanks for asking. And how are you today?
Ms. Chicklet! How many puppies do you have and what breed?
I'm glad your puppy is better now. I just got back from the vet with my cat. I'm going all out to keep him comfortable and content as long as possible. I'm doing well, thanks. I had a stress test this morning and lived to tell about it, so life is good.
I just got back from the vet with my cat.
Darn, kitten. I'm missing something. What happen to your cat? It was SD's cat that got a hernia, right? That reminds, I gotta go get a vet's appointment for my guy too. Time for check-up.
Sorry, Chicklet, I thought I mentioned that Spooky's kidneys are failing. He needs to be hydrated twice a week at the vet's. He also has to take pills to stimulate his appetite, and now he has an infected bite on his tail that has to be treated with liquid antibiotics. He is an amazingly strong cat when I try to give him anything by mouth. I think his teeth double and so do his claws, which flail around quite vigorously when I approach with his meds. He isn't in pain, or I'd do the right thing and let him go. *sob*

No thats ME with the HERINA. My cat Tigger got mauled by a buch of boxers about two months ago. He finally might not have to have any more stitches after Thursday. And Angel my other cat has bad kidneys and is anorexic.
I have two Jack Russell's. They are the greatest. They are too much fun and are really good at getting my guy and I off our butts.
Gawd. Sorry, SD. Geez. I'm getting lagged in my pregnancy. I mean... ok, you're with the hernia and your cat got mauled. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/7.gif)
Sorry to hear your cat has failing kidney problems there, kitten. My dog's getting on in age too.... I don't want to loose him. Scared to think about the future. He's been my best friend forever but I think he's got about five years left in him. * fingers crossed *
Ah, Jack Russels are cute as buttons. Love them!!! Aren't they pretty, hyper, Chicklet?
Yeah, hyper is a good word. But they are just so much fun. Sometimes it's a little annoying when all you want to do is just chill on a Sunday afternoon and they want to play tug-a-war or get their ball out from under the couch for the 400th time. It's all worth it though, we love them. They are a big reason why we bought a house. Now they have a huge yard to tire them out.
Sportsdude, Angel's anorexia is directly related to the bad kidneys. The cat loses its appetite because his kidneys can't process the waste properly. That's why I take my cat to the vet twice a week for water injection under the skin (at the scruff of the neck where the least discomfort is involved). Cats get so dehydrated that it is necessary to supply enough liquid to keep them comfortable. Spooky is getting appetite stimulants to keep him eating, and it has made a huge difference in him.
Glad to hear that your cat's eating well, kitten.
How old are your puppies, Chicklet?
Ah its just a hernia. I've had one before. No big deal can't get it fixed now I'm too busy.
Hiya my sweetest chicklet,
sorry 'bout changing your thread. honest, it wasn't me. ;)
I'm so sorry to hear you guys are having trouble with your cats. It's os sad to see a beloved pet not at their best.
My dogs are 4 years old and two. The older is male and his name is Tyrus. The younger's name is Keegan. She is the handful. Tyrus is a sucky momma's boy, but you wouldn't want to mess with him.
Don't worry PL. I know you and your naughty ways. We are back on track now.;)
I do apologize. It was entirely my fault that the thread was altered. I'll try to behave myself from now on.(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/3.gif)
Oh kitten. Whatever are we going to do with you?
Anyone have any suggestions?
No.
Good morning.
ooookaaaaayyyyy. How very blunt of you tenkani. Was I out of line to direct the thread in that DVish way?
Hehe. Not at all.
I'm just distracted at the moment.
I guess I should have just posted "nothing to add".
That would have been very worrying as well my brother. Good to see that you are busy but make some time for your friends okay?
Be good. (but not too good)
Ah, well without you guys my heart turns dry and brittle in my chest.
I hate when that happens.
So um...what did you have for Breakfast?
(//forums/richedit/smileys/Other/18.gif)
Coffee, a banana and a granola bar (which gave me heart burn) And you?
I had frosted flakes.
A granola bar gave you heart burn?
Was it jalepeno flavoured or something??
I had oatmeal with a little low-cholesterol butter substitute and some soy milk in it.
Yum.
Hey, is it Ok to post in here after noon??
tenkani, you can do whatever the hell you like.
Yes, the granola bar gave me heart burn. I have severe acid reflux and too much sugar tends to send the acid up and effect my live singing ability. It was probably the coffe too but I can't do without it in the morning.
That is the suck. Have you had this issue all your life??
What a drag :(
I'm sorry, did you say you sing?
The singing thing was a jab at Ashley Simpson. My acid reflux has never, not once, affected my voice. Singing or otherwise. What a bad excuse for bad talent.
I actually have a stomach disease and the reflux is a fun addition to my life.
Not to worry, if the reflux occurs it's usually my fault. Too much red wine or some other trigger food or allowing myself to get too stressed at work.
YaHoo!!! No suggestions! I'm safe so far.
Gooood Mooorning! The weather outside today sucks and so did the traffic on my way in this morning. Phew, okay I'm done now.
So Kitten, I've had some time to think about it and I punish you to five laps around the Hasting Park Race track, riding naked and bare back on a black horse.
Chicklet wrote:

But are you punishing me or the public at large? It seems to me that they would suffer far more than me!
Ah, Kitten's tantalising modesty once more comes to the fore!
Good Morning all!
Well, Kitten, did you complete your punishment? I don't believe that it would be punishment for the public, you're just being modest.
Good morning.........
(http://www.goodcooking.com/coffee.gif)Anyone for a coffee ????
Oh yes please!
How are you today P.C.?
Doing fine Chicklet. A bit drab out there weather-wise, but doin' fine none the less.
I'm listening to chain saws and bull-dozers at the moment *cry, weep*. Somebody is 'developing' the beautifull lot up the road and thinks it a good idea to shave the property to look like a sub-division. *sniff*. This always breaks my heart.
And you ????
OH.....sorry
for you (http://www.greatclubs.com/prodimg/coffeephoto.jpg)
You are a goddess. Thank you so much for the lovely, life giving coffee.
Too bad about the developement. People just can't seem to leave anything alone anymore. We have a house on our block that had a gorgeous, massive maple out front and they butchered it. They hacked the top right off and left the rest standing in the front yard. The poor tree is trying to come back but it looks pathetic. I just don't get it. It wasn't dead and it certainly didn't look awful. And to top it all off, they are trying to sell the house. I wouldn't want a huge tree in my front yard with no branches. People just don't think. *end of rant*
Well most of the houses in my area can't be seen from the road......foresty type of area. I don't understand scalping the land, and then rushing off to the nursery to buy trees and shrubs. (http://www.maj.com/gallery/fuzzball7/emoticons/confused.gif)
Go figure.
Makes no sense to me either. I guess people like to be in complete control of their yards? Wackos!!!
I would kill to live in a wooded area.
What I'd really like to do, if I had the time, money and space, is to create a certified backyard wildlife habitat. I knew someone who did that and her yard was amazing. Everything was carefully planned out to offer food, water and shelter to all manner of creature. What a feeling of accomplishment she must have had when that little certificate arrived *wiping away tear*
Good morning!!!!! (http://www.motleycrow.com/ImageHost/2560.gif)
Good Morning!
I completed my punishment, but it was just as I warned you. One poor old man was resting on a park bench when I went past, and fainted dead away. At least I think he just fainted!
Good morning tenkani.Sounds lovely. We are trying to figure out what to do with our front and backyards. I want something natural and low maintanence. We have 8 lovely, well established hostas. They have gotten so huge over the past two weeks. Also we have a large clematis archway in the back. I thought it was jasmine but a huge purple flower opened yesterday. I can't say I am disapointed but jasmine would have been lovely.
tenkani, what a perfect idea. It must be a wonderful place to visit.
Oh kitten it was just a coincidence. It must have been the smell of the horse that overcame him. I'm sure it was a lovely site and I thank you for performing your punishment post haste. Now let's not repeat your behaviour. I really don't like handing out punishments, contrary to what you all may think.
It's certainly contrary to what I think, young lady! But it was fun, in a cold, goose-bumpy kind of way.
It wasn't supposed to be fun, it was PUNISHMENT. I don't know why I bother. ;D
Hello to all....Chicklet, tenkani, Kitten..........
The yard you spoke of sounds amazing tenkani.....I imagine it to be such a peaceful sanctuary. I don't really need to do much to have many sorts of animals here. We've had bears pressing their nose on the glass in the door......a cougar passed through once.....raccoons galore....deer, owls, eagles overhead, multitudes of bunnies and a boodle of other creatures. I love it, but wouldn't be disappointed to have the cougars only pass through when I'm NOT out weeding....lol.
I can derive fun from the strangest things. But the poor man got punished, so I wonder what he did to deserve it.(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/13.gif)
lol, Kitten.....perhaps he was a DV troll, and your niceness just bowled him over.
What a lovely thought! Care to point out some more trolls that need treatment? I've found a new mission in life.
I'm wondering if anybody elses DS is as painfully slow as mine.
Mine's pretty slow today too.
What I'd really like to do, if I had the time, money and space, is to create a certified backyard wildlife habitat. I knew someone who did that and her yard was amazing. Everything was carefully planned out to offer food, water and shelter to all manner of creature.
My right wing anti environment uncle did that. He has 130 acres behind his house plus government land behind it. After the farm sold all the cattle off in the eighties he just let the backyard grow wild. And now that he's got an 60 to 80 acre pond thats filled with catfish, blue gill and bass plus the run off area has become swampy so turtles (snapping stay away you will loose a finger) and bugs roam free. Plus a lot of deer roam the place. Its funny because they hate the tree huggers yet they turned there backyard into an oasis.
Was it pure laziness that made the paradise? It doesn't seem as though it could have been planned.
Well here was my uncles response: The cattle kept the trees down by eating the grass once the cattle were gone the trees came back. Its natural habitat was a forest I've got pics I'll up load them and I'm going down there this weekend I'll take the before and after photos they have on there wall.
Nice idea, Sportsdude. I look forward to them.
Ha! Too funny.
It's also funny that you have a conservative uncle.
Are you two able to discuss things or does it degenerate into ugliness?
Here's one of them I took on a ride up into the hills its on my cell so sorry for the resolution:
[A href="http://www.tinypic.com/view/?pic=10ome6g"][/A]
As you can see its on a bluff looking out is the farm land on the flood plain. The white building you see on the farm land is the farm the house you see in between the hills is my cousin and uncle's house.
I'd like to see more of the flood plain.
Are you two able to discuss things or does it degenerate into ugliness?
NOPE. NO TENKANI ITS THERE WAY OR THE HIGHWAY!!
I was taught from day one to just be quiet and sit there and have to listen to it and not interject. I have before and things turned ugly, real ugly.
Oh I got a one of those I was driving on the levee road and took a picture of a barge and and its tug boat going by. If the mississippi is down I might venture on to the beach and take a few. I wish my digital camera was working but it needs a new battery.
I also was taught that at an early age. The highway started looking pretty good by the time I turned sixteen!
one of my favourite things to do is to climb the 250 foot grain tower. The view is insane you can see the river and two villages near by.
[A href="http://www.tinypic.com/view/?pic=10oms8k"][/A]
Theres the river pic.
[A href="http://www.tinypic.com/view/?pic=10omtes"][/A]
Here's another pic of my uncles 'backyard'. The white thing is a beat up old trailer that my cousin got for free. I say we should blow it up for shits and giggles but they don't seem to listen. The stuff that looks like dirt next to it is a man made cliff Southern Pacific did about 5 years ago when they wanted to build an extra line of track they liked my uncles dirt. The problem is they took out an entire hill and the top of it is sliding off of it so the whole cliff might come down someday. And the blue you see thats the giangantic pond.
Here's the farm pic its kinda old and it was taken during the winter so the fields look barren.

Oh and last one you thought I was joking when I said I had a huge Canadian flag?
[A href="http://www.tinypic.com/view/?pic=10oo6y1"][/A]
Looking for a BC flag. Haven't been able to find one...... yet.
Interesting pics, Sportsdude. What do your parents think of your plan to eventually move to Canada? Or have you told them? Does the U.S. still have the draft, and do you think you might be drafted if they do? One more thing, have you considered going to a Canadian college instead of an American one?

What do your parents think of your plan to eventually move to Canada?
They love the idea. Plus it would give them an excuse to visit another country. Gave me a bunch of books for christmas on moving and finding a job in Canada. Heck my dad said he'd join my idea if we invade Iran with nukes. I'm sure he could find a choir/organist job at a lutheran church somewhere.
Have you told them?
Oh they know. The strive to move to Canada has gotten me through my struggles of late. Heck even my right wing uncle knows. We were going to take a vacation to Vancouver last summer but we didn't have time but we might go skiing at whistler one of these days.
Does the U.S. still have the draft?
Yes and No. When you turn 18 you have to sign a draft letter. But you don't get drafted, yet. It takes an act of congress to re institute it. It would be political suicide but if the u.s. ever went at it alone and invaded Iran like they did Iraq. Then yeah they would have to start it up again because they are running out of troops.
Have you considered going to college in Canada?
Yeah but I can't this time around but if I get into the place I want to go, get into the peace corps then come back two years later and want to get my masters or go to law school then I do have a shot because they'll see my record and they'll see the peace corp service on it. The two places I'd like to go to in the future are either UBC or McGill.[/DIV]
I'm rather surprised by your answers. I thought they were right-wingers and would disaprove of your moving to Canada. Personally I think it would be a good idea. Another idea would be to acquire some sort of trade in the meantime that would be useful here so that you could immigrate on short notice in case Bush got too wacky about waging war on everything that moves. B.C. in particular is in desperate need of workers while we gear up for the Olympics. Anything in the construction line would be more than welcome, and it would be a stepping stone towards independence, as well as provide money for university.
Oh no my dad's side of the family are democrats, my dad's never voted for a republican in his life and my mom well the last republican she voted for was Nixon. My dad's side of the family are big labour people, immigrants from hungary, grandma was in a concentration camp, they'd only vote republican if someone put a gun to there head. Except for my one uncle on my dad's side. He's a crazy republican but he's also a gambling addict and filed for bankruptcy. Lives in an attached home which is filled with junk up to the ceiling and there's a path to the kitchen and a path to the bedroom and the rest is filled with junk. We always say "what have the republicans done for you". We don't talk to him or that side of the family very often haven't seen them in about 4 years.
Looks like your uncle is living in a fire trap. Since it's an attached home, wouldn't that worry his neighbours a lot? Or are they the same type? Good to know your parents are all for your coming to Canada, though.
I think its an attached home its from the seventies looks like a trailer. No I'll take that back it is a regular home that looks out toward an interstate wall. To top it off he's a used car saleman.
wow! a good morning thread.
Goood Morning! Fridays rule!
Yep. I good morning thread but for me it might as well be the good night thread cuz I've been up all night studying and doing school work so off for me to get some shut eye. I've got a semesters full of tests to do and I'm going anywhere until I finish them. Good night!(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Other/9.gif)
Good luck with the schooling. I miss my college days, I was very free, then I became a slave to the MAN!!!(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Angry/6.gif)
HELLO, CK!!!!!!!
Welcome back. You have been missed!
CK!!!
What's up, mi amigo???
How have you been?
Good Morning everyone. Hope you had a great weekend. I spent mine in bed with food poisoning from Friday night. *sigh*
Poor Chicklet. How awful for you! Are you feeling better now?
Chicklet, where do you think you contracted food poisoning from? Hope you're over it soon.
You kids are sweet. I ate some apparently bad scallops. I feel better today but still look at food with a weary eye. I'll survive but thanks for your thoughts.
So, did anyone do anything exciting this weekend?
Oh I did a ton of school work. Then a friend and I looked up old friends and people from school on myspace. Oh the fun.
Weekends aren't for school work SD. They are for relaxing and catching up with friends after a week of slaving away for 'the MAN'. At least that's my take on it.
Geez, it's been quiet in here today. Must be a Monday.
My case is differnt I must get this class done before the end of the month. Anyway I hate family get togethers so I passed on going down to the farm this weekend for the holiday.
Ah, I see. What course are you taking? Sorry if you've told everyone already.
Environmental Science.
Wow. Very cool. How much longer do you have? Are you doing it through correspondance or do you go to a school where you are?
Hi, Chicklet and Sportsdude! (and anyone else I missed) I just woke up from a very much needed nap. On the weekend I did what I always do.....worked! But now I can relax and pity all you poor wage slaves. *gloat* So sorry to hear about the bad scallops. Now I know why I won't touch the things. Not really, I just had a bad experience with them the first time I tried them, so figured they weren't worth the effort. Back home I could have had all the Digby scallops anyone could want, but I didn't like the looks of them.
Hey kitten!
A nap sounds lovely.
I was having a craving for scallops so the BF went out and made me dinner. He wasn't thrilled with out how the recipe turned out so he passed on the scallops. Now I wonder if he was trying to poison me????? At least he curbed my craving for the little white cakes of usual yummyness.
Through correspondance. This weekend I've done 3 tests and starting on a 4th. Then I got to finish my british english and technology by my birthday. Want to get this over before I turn 20.
I admire your drive and commitment. I wouldn't think it would be easy to do a course on your own. I am very good at slacking off and finding something more interesting to do. When is your B-Day? I'll start planning the party now. Any requests?
Chicklet wrote:

I haven't had drive and commitment really since I've had these courses for a year and half and haven't touched the technology course in a year. I realised I can't do things on my own I need a school setting. When is my birthday? Well I won't give you the exact day but I share it with NDP Leader Jack Layton, Nelson Mandela and John Glenn, Steve Forbes, Richard Branson and the late Hunter S. Thompson.
Hmm. Mid July eh? I can have something thrown together by then. How do you like pretty girls jumping out of giant cakes?
LOL. Thanks for the suggestion. But like most of my birthday's. Its "happy birthday" from my parents and my response "thanks" (in a miserable tone). I'm a crank, it sucks, never happy.
We'll have to work on that. ;D
I fit the personality of my avatar the manatees. You look at one and they look depressed 24/7, well thats me in nutshell.
When you feel unhappy, try thinking of all the people who really have something to be unhappy about. Count your blessings, Sportsdude. You have shelter, food, and clothing, as well as the opportunity for an education. A large percentage of the world's population doesn't have any of what you take for granted. You are a very furtunate man, you know.
I know thats what makes it worse. Crazy fools around here don't see that then another problem I have is that I watch the news too much.
Keep in mind that you can't save the world, but you can make a difference in it. A small thing like volunteering or giving to the Food Bank. Take a senior once a week to the store for groceries. There must be plenty of opportunities for volunteering in your town. There never seem to be enough to go around. The nice thing about doing this is that it makes you feel good about yourself. Does wonders for the ego. Also it is an advantage when colleges are looking at your interests outside of schooling.
Good Morning world. It is lovely and sunny here in Van. today. Anyone planning on getting out of work early to enjoy it?
Holy crap. Yuki and Himitsu have been busy. Great imagination ladies. Where do you get the energy.
Anyone else around?
ROFL ROFL.
This world is full of strange and wonderful individuals, hey?
Good morning, sis.
Holy crap. Yuki and Himitsu have been busy. Great imagination ladies. Where do you get the energy.
Anyone else around?
WE have a drug tree in our back garden ofcorse. The pink pills with red dots.
Well, perhaps you could pass some of those pills along.
I couldn't keep up with them tenkani. How have you been? I was just about to send a thread out looking for you.
I've been so lonely I had to go over to DV and read that filth for a while. I thought I saw Isis's handle but it's probably not her eh?

Hmm. Sounds like girlfriends. Well it's cool that you guys can hang out here and let your imaginations run wild. It's interesting for us to read as well.
Lol thanks. We write anyway, we have over 500 exercise books filled, and over 5 different storylines. We get very bored. oh when you said girlfriends, you ment Girl Freinds right.? okay.!!^^^^

Just thought I'd say Good evening on the Good Morn thread! Wow! Life is busy. I am working outdoors a lot right now and I am loving it. Hope all is well with everyone! Life, better hurry up and have some FUN! Its a flash!(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/25.gif)
Morning.
Nice to see ya CK!
Good morning gang.
Woke up this morning thinking it was Friday. D'oh. It's going to be a long two days.
The forum seems to be working a litle better today. Yesterday was painful, I just gave up and went over to DV for a bit. Man are they jealous of us. ;D
Good morning and such.
Hello to you. I was begining to think I was talking to myself. How are you on this fine day?
Hiya Chicklet and Tenkani.
Wasn't it so much fun there, Chicklet? LOL! :P
Hiya purelife! I must admit that it was a little satisfying. Kinda like old times but the kiddies have changed. Not really my place anymore but when I'm feeling naughty I'll be sure to drop by.
I'm doing Ok, Root Sista.
Ok, mostly Ok. My fingers are killing me because I had a small landscaping job yesterday and my mentor had me weeding by hand for about 2 hours. It's an area that we really should just cover with horticultural fabric and toss on some wood chips, but I think my mentor realizes there's more work in it for us if we have to keep coming back and hand-weeding (//forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/8.gif)
How are you guys?
Doing alright.
Sorry about your hands. *rubbing tenkanis palms and stretching out the fingers carefully*
I'm sure your boss just wants you guys to appreciate what you will one day have. The power to make the underlings weed by hand for two hours. :D
LOL!
I can't wait! *rubbing hands together in glee*
OW!!!
I haven't weeded for years, much less mowed lawn. I'm the biggest, strongest person in my family and I can count how many times I've mowed the lawn on one hand.
Careful there.
Hey questions for you root brother. We have a very large cedar in our backyard and want to create a planter/shade garden under it. Any suggestions for plants?
how big is your yard chicklet?
Wow, it wouldn't let me post. I'll try again...
Sportsdude, why did your family let you off the hook?
As far as shade plants under cedar, what is your climate like? How cold does it get during the winter? How many days of frost do you usually get I mean, and what's the lowest temp you usually have to suffer through?
I'll do my best, but I'll bet Gopher could give you a better idea!
Our yard is quite big but the area we want to create is only about 22x28. Our climate zone number is 8 and it gets to about -5 at the worst. It's getting warmer and warmer during the winters here. As for the frost, it's pretty minimal but we do get it from about early Nov into late march.
They have and still do not let me do the lawn because every house I've lived in has had a huge hill in it and our lawn mowers have been known to be dangerous and they don't trust me, I'll screw something up and not make it look good.
Backyard hill is as steep as this picture:
[A href="http://4north.no-ip.com:8080/pics/shindig03/orig/michelle_steep_hill.jpg"]http://4north.no-ip.com:8080/pics/shindig03/orig/michelle_steep_hill.jpg[/A]
Ok, well it makes a huge difference whether you intend to plant directly into the ground or use planters.
Cedars have massive, shallow root systems that will drink up nearby water and nutrients so if you plant into the ground it has to be something that can survive in that competitive environment.
Also, I think the soil under cedars tends to be acidic, but I'm sure Gopher would know more. That can be dealt with by adding limestone chips I believe but it's a lot of grunt work. If I were you I'd have my soil tested first of all.
Were you looking for a ground cover? Supposedly carpet bugle and english ivy can survive under cedars. Maybe vinca as well. Be careful though, because vinca major is highly invasive and a vigorous grower. Vinca minor might be a better choice, although it will take a little longer to spread.
When you mention the zone, are we talking Sunset zones here?
Thanks man. Zone 8 actually refers to the climate. We will be planting directly into the soil but we need to build a retaining wall and add soil to level out the area. I really want something that looks forest-like and will pretty much take care of itself. We would definately do some type of ground cover. We have english ivy growing on a wall not far from the tree so I would probably go with something a little different. I'm not too worried about the hard work to get it going as I'm sure the result will extremely rewarding. I've found a couple of great web sites that give plant lists for shade areas but wanted your expert opinion tenk.
Can you estimate how many hours of sun the area gets per day or is it completely shaded out by the cedar foliage?
Off the top of my head, hosta, acanthis mollis (bear's breech), various ferns and impatiens will likely do well. I need to cross-check with my sunset guide though to check the zone requirements.
I found a horticultural message base and someone provided the following list:
Mahonia nervosa (Low Oregon Grape)
Polystichum munitum (Western Sword Fern)
Epimedium
Vancouveria (Inside-out Flower)
Lonicera (Honeysuckle Species)
Vaccinium parvifolium (Red Huckleberry)
Vaccinium ovatum (Evergreen Huckleberry)
Sambucus (Elderberry)
Gaultheria Shallon (Salal) - be careful, this can crowd out other plants.
Western Sword Fern will be the most successful in this competitive situation.
And here's an interersting journal/article on gardening under cedars!
http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/shade_gardening/9872
LOL, I know the zone refers to climate, but there are several different systems for determining climate zone. Here in the U.S., we have sunset zones and USDA zones and they are definitely NOT compatible.
In class we use the sunset zones exclusively, but that's mostly because our textbook for plant ID was the sunset western garden book :)
Our sunset zone is 4. Sorry, has it become terribly clear that I have no idea what I am doing?
The area gets about 4-5 hours of sun a day and it's afternoon sun to sun set.
Hey, I was just reading up in my text on zone 4 and you should be happy, check this out...
"No zone grows better perennials and bulbs; people who like woodland plants and rock plants love zone 4."
woodland plants = shade plants so w00h00!! (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif)
Just checking out some of the possibilities cross-reffed with my sunset guide...
Acanthus Mollis - Bear's Breech : Mollis isn't listed for zone 4, but its cousins Acanthus balcanicus and Acanthus spinosa are. I happen to like this plant, but it's a little weird looking so I'm sure it's a matter of personal taste. Does very well in shade. It needs water though, so if you want low-maintenance then maybe it's not the plant for you.
Hostas are another plant I love and would do well in your climate and in shade, but again, they will need watering. Have you considered setting up an automatic irrigation system?
Hydrangeas, again need water but should do well in your climate.
Sword fern is the same. Great looking, does well in shade, but under a cedar would require additional watering, especially in the summer.
I think I may have mentioned Impatiens before. I don't think they could be grown as perennials in your climate, but Gopher will know more.
Mahonia nervosa is a groundcover that might be something worth looking into, as it needs very little water and does well in the shade and in your climate. Look online for pics and maybe check it out at a nursery to see if it's the kind of plant you'd like in your woodland landscape.
Epimedium does well under trees and needs only moderate water. It might be worth looking into.
Vancouveria looks a bit like ivy and makes a nice groundcover in shady areas and actually prefers acid soil, but it needs moderate to regular water and "spreads slowly", unlike ivy. I guess it might come down to how quickly you'd like to see results.
Thank you so much tenkani! Invaluble information. I am very excited about the idea, now I just have to execute it. I have 4 weeks off coming up and will probably start working on it then. Is it okay to start a new garden this late in the season? I'll be sure to keep you updated and pick your brain if that's okay. If I could figure out how to post pics I could do a before and after. That will be my mission this afternoon.
I don't think it's too late to start...well, Ok starting in early spring would have been nice but nothings perfect right?
The thing you really want to avoid is having new plants in the ground when the first frost comes. The more settled they are by the time the first cold snap hits the better.
Get your soil tested.
Hello green thumbed friends.....this all sounds so excting
Sacred site of green thumbs

Yes Sir! Will do.
I think if I can do it sooner (like in the next two weeks) rather than later the plants should be well on their way to being established before the first frost. But hey, this is Vancouver. The saying "if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes." was made for us.
These ferns cover the forest floor everywhere in my yard......as they thrive naturally in sunshine and shadow, and are plentiful around a cedar forest, they can make nice 'filler' ( and I'm sure you can find an area where you could gently 'liberate' a couple)

Thanks P.C. I really like ferns and they are one of the first plants I think of when I think of the forest.
If you don't mind me asking, what part of the lower mainland do you live in? I know that there are not many houses left that sit on that kind of land.
You're so right Chicklet....that kind of property on the lower mainland IS becoming scarce.....well if not scarce, unaffordable. I live on the the Island.....lots of affordable foresty properties here. (I bought in 88, compared to todays' prices, they almost gave it to me...lol)
I was pretty strapped for cash in those days, so made do with native plants. Lupins, columbine, foxgloves and various wildflowers.....and of course lots of ferns. It seems if you change their 'wild' or natural situation and plant them as you would a more 'formal' garden....it becomes quite lovely. (and very little is needed from the nursery each year to fill in some splashes of colour) Mostly I add planters and hanging baskets and that's all I really need. oh yeah....and lots of hostas. They DO like their water, but can tolerate LONG periods of drought.
Your ideas sound like you're heading in the right direction......good for you.
P.C., I like the way you think.
I love your plant choices :)
And yeah, unfortunately a lot of the better looking selections will require at least some additional water which is why I asked about the possibility of installing an irrigation system.
A simple drip irrigation system can be fine tuned so that the cost of water is pretty minimal and if you're planting under a water-hungry, shallow-rooted tree it makes sense.
Yeah an irrigation system would definately be something we could do but I have no problem standing in my lovely backyard with a hose for a while every other day. I like to putter in the garden but don't know enough to have a graden that needs really specific care and lots of fuss.
Pardon my ignorance but why would someone need an irrigation system in Vancouver of all places?
Hey. Watch it. >:( lol
The garden will be situated under a large cedar tree and stays pretty dry so it may need some extra help. Besides, it's hot and dry in late spring and all summer.
Not a dumb question, dude.
Cedars have very hungry, shallow roots so the soil under them tends to be drier than the surrounding landscape.
Never saw a cedar tree til I went to Seattle and it blew my mind. Anyway you guys don't know hot is until you've lived in the midwest. It was 95 F (35 C) yesterday with 100% humidity and a hot breeze to no breeze at all and its not even July or August yet!
Yowza. No thanks (http://www.motleycrow.com/ImageHost/icon_smile_dead.gif)
I'm really particular about climate and I wouldn't survive long in a hot/humid area.
TIME TO MOVE SPORTSDUDE!!!
Tell me about! Can't stand the people, the weather, city or the landscape!
Come on over to the left coast, amigo!!
(//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/11.gif)
I have a cedar with your name on it.
Fiesta!!(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/19.gif)
ROFL.
You know you spend too much time on message bases when every other comment reminds you of a funny forum pic (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
LOL, tenkani.....I bet you're looking for it right now.
I just went for a drive along the beach, and the skies opened up lak hek !!!!! WOW...it was impressive.....now everything smells so good.
I'm a putterer too Chicklet. I can spend hours on end fussing in the garden but my knowlege doesn't come close to my patience. I think gardening on any level is the most gratifying, of all things. I never wear gloves as I love the feel of the soil (and the smell of good soil too). It's such a peaceful....almost spritual feeling to be playing in the earth.
I hope you learn to post your pics.....before and afters would be wonderful. (and when you learn how, pass it on...lol)
I will pass along that info P.C. You would think that I would have figured it out by now. Too lazy I guess.
Chicklet, are you here?
[div style="text-align: center;"] [/div]
tenkani? Are you here? How are you? You seem like a very nice man. Do you want to be a designer? I think you would make a very good designer, especially a fashion designer.
Funny you should mention that.
I did design a series of patriotic C-rings a while back, but no one seemed interested.
I'm wearing the maple leaf ring right now.
Meet?
Absolutely. Here? Or there?
I swear to Xenu, one of these days DV is going to lose me my job.
Just you wait.
Thank you so much for this tenk. I am almost off for the day so if I disapear you will know why.
Let's do it again real soon. ;D
Anytime, my little persian princess (http://www.motleycrow.com/ImageHost/frenchyf1.gif)
Funny you should mention that.

Lor tenkani!! Just a single maple leaf.... say it isn't so!
Woops. Gotta run. Just thought I'd drop by and let everyone know I'm not dead yet.

Come back and talk to us when you have more time pls!!
Missing you lot like crazy. It's been hectic lately. Dunno where the time flies.
Anyways, I'll check back when I have more time. TTYL.
Aaaaarrrrrgggggg !!!! DS is painfully too slow for me today. I get blank pages with cut off ads and too many minutes between pages.....SO, while I'm here, GOOD MORNING !!!!!

Good Morning P.C! I know what you mean about the slowness. It had actually been okay for me yesterday afternoon but now its slowed right down again. *sigh* What you up to today lady?
I'm easing into the day, Chicklet. I can't decide what to do with myself. I often suffer this when there are SO many things to do. I think I'll pot up the last of my planters and have a chat with my climbing hydrangea, who has yet to grasp the concept of climbing. I'm considering some form of bondage with the insubordinate little weed. Then, maybe a little raking, a little sweeping a little weeding and Mother nature took care of the watering yesterday.
And you ??? Working today ?
Yep, workin'. But it's Friday and I have dinner plans with friends so I'm just looking forward to that.
I had a dream about my forest garden last night. I can't wait to start.
I didn't know there was such a thing as a climbing Hydrangea. I really like the flowers. I have friend who has one in her front yard and it grows like crazy. Just give yours a stern talking to and I'm sure it wil snap into action and climb unitl you can't see the top.
Ohhh, dinner plans....NICE. Anywhere special, or are you cooking ?
Climbing hydrangea has flowers more like the 'lace cap' variety. I have one on each side of an arched arbour....one is doing well, the other is behaving like it's bratty little sister. Perhaps that's all the more reason to pay it some attention. (I'm going to give it an extra pinch of Miracle Grow, and I'll use ribbon instead of twine to tie up the little bas.....I mean....the nice little plant)
Starting a new project is always exciting, especially when you have a vision. I like the idea of a woodland garden to honour your cedar. I think we shouldn't fight with what we have. Of course people DO have gardens where they can plant pretty much what ever they like, but when the basic necessities like sunlight, and water aren't all they should be.....just go with it. There's always something that like to grow somewhere. (I think that's why my hydrangea is rebelling)
Good morning and such.
Hope you fine folks are doing well!
I just realized why Gopher hasn't chimed in about the shade garden.
He's out of town!! D'oh. I have a mind like a steel sieve.
Oh my dearest tenkani. Don't fret, we all have a little mind slip once and a while. It's called getting older.
I know when to chime in about gardening.........when all the experts are away. I'll tell you anything you need to know *as long as tenkani or Gopher aren't here*.
LOL. I happen to think you are an expert. If you deal with it everyday, in your own yard, then in my books, you are an expert. You know what works and what hasn't and all the little tricks you've used to make your yard lovely.
Kind of like the master of your domain ???? ROFLROFLROFL
That's all you need to know, is how to manage the space you have. With the time I have left over, I can go and admire the gardens of those who know what they're doing.
Gaaawwwwd, that took FOREVER to reply.
Chicklet EXACTLY!
P.C. I would trust your opinion over my own any day.
Like I said, I have almost ZERO practical experience :(
I would more than happy to share my 'experience' with you tenkani. ;)
Sometimes you frighten me, Chicklet.
Be gentle.
Chicklet doesn't frighten me!! just kidding...sorry...She actually makes my heart skip beats!
Hi ten and nucks sis!
omgitsbeenawhile!
Loving work right now. Out in the Rockies a lot! So beautiful. Also Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan is a buzz, feels like a different universe than the Canada I grew up in. Slow paced and very much has its own beauty.
Back home for some rest and FUN! Hope everyone's Friday is cool!
CK!!!!! Howdy buddy. Sounds like things are really great for you right now. I'm so glad. So I guess you have a very happy GF eh? Has she been rubbing it in much? Cause if she has, I can come out there and 'talk' to her.
tenkani wrote:

Don't be frightened. I would never, never hurt you or let anyone else hurt you. Ever! (Does that sound a little stalkerish to anyone?)
Has she been rubbing it in much?
Not really since her Flames died a long time ago. But she has been rubbing something..(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/10.gif)
..scare everyone away?
ten and chicklet
*big butt squeezes*, I am off, my network at work is too slow to use DS right now.
Miss both of you!
P.C., Lise, kitten, everyone else! You also!
Sorry, my bad. For some reason I thought she was and Edmonton fan. Oops.
Be good and come back soon, we miss you too.
W00h00! I'm back. Was off poking around on the 8th ring of hell.
Hi CK!!!! Sounds like you've been communing with nature and whatnot. I'm jealous! :0
Chicklet, clue me in.
Nothing to clue into. It makes sense to me and that's the way I like it.
I think maybe I should go away for a while. Have some lunch and maybe get some fresh air.
See ya on the flip side.
Rats....missed you CK. Glad to hear everything sounding so bright !!!
Chicklet!!!
I'm so confused...so very confused.
Can ya help a brutha out?? (http://www.motleycrow.com/ImageHost/icon_smile_shock.gif)
Please PM me before my brain explodes.
I'm thinkin it was hockey-speak, tenkani....lol. (not 'ICE' hockey....remember....just hockey)
How are your weed ravaged hands today?
That which does not kill your fingers...
They are much better, thanks.
I have another landscaping job tomorrow. If they aren't recovered by then I'll be in a world of hurt.
Chicklet, I love you baby. Don't do this to me.
You should get some 'gardeners friend'. I think Burt Bees makes it. You put it on before you weed....then Tiger Balm after. Look after them....I'm paying for treating mine like they were replacable.
DS is running TOO SLOW for me....it's making me crazy.
Well back to the garden for me.....good luck on your job tomorrow tenkani, lucky boy. Now that's a job that wouldn't feel like a job.
Thanks, P.C.!!
Great advice!
Have a peaceful and relaxing weekend, sister (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/19.gif)
tenk. Check your PM dude. ;D
i'm in a bit of a bad mood. thought maybe this thread might cheer me up.
nope. lol.
Sorry dude. We'll try harder next time. Can I get you anything? A beverage perhaps?
lol. how about a nice cup of stfu. lol
Cumming right up.
LEGION!!!!

Ha Ha. Yeah I thought this thread would make me happy for some reason.
I wuz wrong. Hey Chicklet. See you @ DV!
Legion, PM me if you want to talk.
Or not.
You're going to let one idiotic mod turn you into an electronic killing machine?
Remember how you always used to tell me all this stuff was meaningless???

Hey buddy.
Work has been taking me to some beautiful places. Unfortunately, with my job, I some of man's laziness in protecting the environment. But all in all, two thumbs up on spending time in the mountains.
How is the horticulture? I am thinking a trip to California this fall. Friends, family, and some California warmth in October would be sweet,

Miss you too. I am busy as normal I guess. I am just doing more outdoor work this season. This weekend is a chill out weekend. Taking it easy.
*kisses on the Lady Sith*
Hopefully we are on at the same time soon. Later Homey!
Good morning everyone. Hope you all had a great weekend. When is the next one and how fast can it get here??????
Hate Monday mornings..............................
I love Mondays! I got to sleep in, had a leisurely breakfast, and read the paper and did puzzles. I also drank a LOT of coffee. Wonderful day!
Exactly the opposite here. My first day back after a holiday, the garden looks like a jungle and at work there's too much to do, too many unanswered phone calls to sort out, too much unanswered post, too many visitors, too much chaos created in my absence and too much apathy within.

WELCOME BACK GOPHIE!!!!!
Good morning, everyone! Good luck with your "babies", tenkani. Don't grow lights use a lot of energy?
Gophie?????
Thanks Tenki
*crossing "gophie" off from book of approved terms*
Most grow lights burn a lot of juice.
I found a T5 Flourescent fixture that is only 40 or 50 watts.
Low-power but extremely high-efficiency.
The lights aren't bright enough to grow throughout the life of the plant, but from seed to seedling (maybe a little more, we'll see) they are perfect (so they tell me).
Will the seedlings be able to grow in shady areas? I believe you said you had a problem with adequate sunlight.
Are we still talking Zinnias, or did you give birth to another variety during my absence?
Whether seedlings will grow in shady areas is something I intend to find out. LOL
Actually, my problem isn't so much shade, per say, as lots of fog at different times of the year. Actually, there is also a nearby huge tree that shades the yard, but only part of the day.
In my room I'm growing Zinnias (3 different varieties), a sprinkle of wildflower mix just for fun and some coleus because I love them dearly.

Kitten you are at 999 posts (666 upside down). One more and you're a HERO!
It's absolutely stunning out there. I don't think I'm going to wait till lunch to get outside. I'm going to get a coffee (rarely do I do that) and go up to the common area office deck and watch the city crawl to life.
I love starting work before rush hour hits.
Ooops never mind. You already are a hero. DUH!
I'd better go get some more coffee....
Morning.
1000 posts!!! Does that make me a double hero, or does it mean I talk waaaayy too much?
A good pre-noon time-frame to everyone. A stunning day all right. I'm stunned by it all!

Thanks kitten. I need it in the worst way. :-[
BOO!!!
How's everyone this boootiful morning?!?!?!
Just mowed the lawn yesterday. Yes. Me.... pregnant and mowing the lawn. I have the POWER! Hubby had a bad back, NOBODY wants to do the job.... I guess with the booming house market, there's no lawnmower guys to be hired. Sucky.
Hiya Lise! Nice to see you. I was going to ask you how you were feeling but if you're mowing the lawn then I'm sure you're doing okay. Any 'morning' sickness?
Heya Lady Chicklet!
No, no morning sickness. Not really. Been fine except maybe for the 1st trimester. A bit of morning sickness but unable to vomit. That's a bad feeling to have all day long.
I've been fine. Going into my 6th month and have a little bump to show for all. * heh *
Unable to eat all the goodies. Have just been dignosed with gestational diabetes. Horrah. (sarcasm) Now I can't eat sweets, candies and plain carbs (noodles, pasta and rice!).... ah well.
How about you? Anything new on the home front?
Oh Lise. I'm sorry to hear that. You be sure to take care of yourself. Did you have the diabetes with your first?
Not too much is new. I am looking forward to 4 weeks off coming up and our powder room is almost finished. It has taken months. I was watching that Extreme Make Over- Home Edition and was quite bummed that it takes them a week to build an entire house and us 3 months to finish a powder room. Bah!
Oh Lise. I'm sorry to hear that. You be sure to take care of yourself. Did you have the diabetes with your first?
Yep. Unfortunately with gestational diabetes, if you have one with the first, the chances of getting it again with the second is the same. So no big surprise there.
I just have to watch my diet (hah! try saying that to someone who's mind is constantly on food) and do a lot of exercise. It's ok because overall, I do feel better and healthier. I get to go out, enjoy my walks and get a variety of food. It' amazing how much calories are out there - we take food for granted all the time so when you're hit with something like this, it makes you wonder about the things we consume without a second thought.

Oh how nice. I wish I had the time and funds to do up our house. Most of what we have go into the kids. Your place must really look nice by now.
That's the thing with Extreme Make-Over though. They have like a thousand and one crew who would do the work 24 hours, non-stop. You can accomplished many things if you had that.
Lise, are you here?
Chicklet, are you here?
Happy Tuesday!!!!
Lise, so good to see you around again!!
Sorry about the diabetes thing.
So you've told us what you CAN'T eat, what CAN you eat??
Lunch plans?
Tenkani!!!! You can't talk about lunch in here. Geez, some people. ;)
Brunch?

Lise, if you check the drug stores there are lots of sweets for diabetics, including chocolate bars. You don't have to give them up, just change the type of candy. I look after a diabetic and have to check labels carefully. If you bake, Sugar Twin is good and measures the same as sugar.
Good Luck, and happy pregnancy.
Sugar Twin and pregnancy?
Sure. They go together like cats and witches.
I was more thinking on the lines of twins and pregnancies.
As in.....double your pleasure????
Sort of...
Hi all,
Sorry had to spring away for a tad. When you have a toddler that demands attention, you gotta shut down and go.
I hear you.... diabetic sugars. For some reason, they're a heck lot sweeter than I can stomach. I don't understand why they're made sweeter than normal sugar.
Besides I'm trying to stay away from artificial sweetner. Aspartame and what have you not is not very good for pregnant women. At least that's what I heard. Just to be on the safe side.
Thanks for all the helpful tips.
hope you don't have any hills in that lawn of yours.
Small hills, Mr. SD. Minor bumps along the way. One day I'm gonna rip all the lawn out and add pebbles and gravel. Damn grass grows so fast.
Ah when 2.0 and 3.0 grow up they can do it.
By the time they're old enough to do it, they'll just say, "Ah ma, just let the robots do it."
Awesome that's just what I need. A cute looking man. *heh*
Good Morning all. It's another beautiful day here in Van. Here's to hoping it's a better day than yesterday... Cheers!
So far so good!
I wanna go outside and play.
Good Morning lovely DSers. I woke up this morning thinking it was Saturday. :'( The next two days are gonna SUCK.
Morning all. Nice to see you guys. Am home with a sick toddler. Blah. Had to take the day off. *sigh*
Lovely to see all the loving going on with DV Mods.
Good morning Chicklet ! This IS my Saturday....and not a moment too soon. Just had 5 days of 12 and 13 hour shifts. Gawwwd I can't handle that kind of stuff anymore.
Chin up Chicklet....only one and a half days til Saturday.
....and a good morning to Lise and Some Chick too !!!!
Greetings PC. What's new with you, girl?
Thanks P.C. I'll try. It's been a pretty intense week for me at work but I am done this job next week and then it's 4 weeks off. Woo hooo!!!!!
Hiya Lise! Hope it's nothing too serious. Hopefully your little one will sleep today and you can relax and try to enjoy some of this day.
Anyone have big plans for the weekend? It's supposed to be really nice.
Yo, Ms. Chicklet! Doing anyting with your four long weeks?
Lise Jr. is fine. Woke up with a fever, gave her Advil and is now sleeping it off. Thanks for asking.
Hopefully, Lise Jr. will be ok to go to the Vancouver Aquarium this weekend. Hurray for the sunny weather!
What about your plans?
Hey ladies, how's the morning going?
SD!!!!! Things are just okay. And you?
Hey Mr. SD. Who's the man-avantar?
could be better, tired of news.
Gordon Lightfoot - Canada's version of Bob Dylan.
But of course. Wow. You know Gordon? I never heard of him till I came here. *meep*
Media's blowing the terrorist act in Ontario. You can't get anywhere but hear about our 'home-grown terrorist'. Sigh. Perhaps a sign of things to come??
I think there is a lot of sensationalism going on considering there had been 12 raids in the past 2 years and nobody ever heard of anything. And just by going to the canadian media sites you can tell who's trying to push the sensationalism 'run for your life mentality' and who isn't.
CTV and Globe and Mail are doing that.
The Star isn't.
CBC isn't.
And I don't check the CanWest papers but I can garuntee they are pushing wall to wall coverage because of there political leanings.
Its gotten so bad at CTV.ca that I've boycotted it for the time being.
Poor Lise Jr. It's always tough seeing the little munchkins sick, Lise.
Howdy Sportsdude !!!!! Haven't had much of a chat with you in a long time......how is every little thing with you ?
No big plans for me this weekend Chicklet.....maybe a start on ripping my deck up. We'll see. How about you ? How is the 'cedar tree' garden coming along ? Have you had much chance to get at it ? Spring is flying by too quickly and I find I haven't been taking the time to smell the roses.
Oh I don't know listen to some music finish this class I am taking (plans for weekend). Kind of been having a down week but atleast I don't work for another week.
Oh P.C. The shade garden has not progressed except in my head. With my four weeks off I will strive to accomplish something. Hope you enjoy the weekend, it's going to be a sunny one.
Listening to the news is depressing these days. I hope the case will come to a close soon. I can't help but feel that if we get the troops out of Afghanistan, this wouldn't be happening. Ah well. A new chapter to add to Canadian history.
I know what you guys mean about the garden. Geez. I have so much work ahead of me and it seems like the weeds are winning. Hell... I can't even spray my garden this year because I'm pregnant.
I need to pull two plum trees from my yard. Don't know what to replace them with? Any ideas?
What kind of Plum trees were they?
Are they big trees Lise? What kind of sun exposure do they get?
Tenkani or Gopher are the ones you really want to ask but I'll give my two cents if you want.
European plum trees. They're growing like crazy. It seems everytime I trim them back, they sprout new branches the following week. Can't keep up with them.
Not in a sunny spot too but they're side by side. Have thorns on the trunks which I hate. I want a plant that's evergreen in the winter months but can flower in the spring or summer.
Maybe I'll ask tenkani and Gopher next time.
Well I guess I can't help you considering the only trees around here (midwest) are oak trees and dogwoods.
Ah, no worries. I'll find something eventually.
Anyone going away this year? Like overseas or something like that?
I love dogwoods. They are our national (or whatever you would call it) tree SD. Did you know that? It's illegal to cut them down and pull flowers from then. I have no idea what the punishment is but I'm sure it's something like thay cut off your hands the same way you cut down the tree.
Dogwoods can grow out of hand at times but they sure are pretty to look at.
They are? I thought they were only in Missouri. Its the state tree.

Maybe but doubt it. If I did it would only be by myself and thats no fun.

There's a lotta things you can do on your own, SD. If you go on a tour group, you'll end up making friends and who knows.... perhaps a little romance on the side too. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/4.gif)
I went on a Contiki tour to Europe and made some friends. A couple broke up... the girl found someone there she really liked...... so you never know.
Oh never thought of a tour group. I was thinking of me just flying to vancouver and wondering around B.C. until my passport ran out or something. In other words 'get lost', which is impossible because I was born with a map in my head.
You do that, amigo. Drop me a line if you're ever in town.
Anyways, Lise Jr. just woke up. Bye! Take care all!!
Good morning. There seem to be quite a few people on here this morning so I'll greet you collectively instead of individually. Ignore all the clouds. I'm sure they don't really mean to be blocking our sunlight.
I was overly optimistic at 6:30 this morning when I came to work and opted for just a suede blazer.
It's... CHILLY! But, if I'd worn layers of fleece, the sun would come out at 2pm when I'm walking home and I'd broil. ;)
Rather be freezing then sweating up a storm. But then thats me, I like the cold. For instance I can't go outside today because the sun hurts my eyes and its too hot.
Good Morning everyone. Hope you had a lovely weekend.
I see this board was invaded over the weekend. I have to say I am uncomfortable with the new 'feel'.
Sorry for my dumb contribution (so far) if I am included in that. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/3.gif)
Didn't realise that there are already so many threads about DV.
Hey 007, don't be so hard on yourself. I was referring to Superstar. You can talk about whatever you want here. Oh, and by the way. Welcome!

We do need more injection into this site though. More traffic, more ppl... more posts. I'm all for it.
I really dislike those people (sub-humans) that think it's fun to display their ignorance. They are in the same category as the graffiti writers, IMO.
kitten wrote:

That is true but I'm for rooting anything that will speed DS traffic up. Too bad we can't just smithe all the guests that come in here for fun.
I still think that everyone should have to register before they can post. Keep the riff-raff out.
Well TehBorken can make more message boards. Have one that only registered users can post in and one that un registered and registered can post in.
Good idea, Sportsdude.
Maybe Teh Borken will consider this????
Hmmm, I guess I can see both sides.
My understanding of TB's position was that since DS didn't have much trolling, there was really no need to have mandatory registration (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
With the recent influx of new users, I admit that we've gotten some posters that are a bit...rough around the edges. Personally, at this point I don't have a problem with that, and don't see a need to "fix" it by restricting access.
Your mileage may vary.
well good night sd needs to sleep. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Other/9.gif)
Good night, sweet prince!! (//forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/5.gif)
Good Morning all! How is everyone this morning?
Hi there!
Uhhh, I'm waiting for my first cup of tea to cool so I can get some caffeine gremlins in my system.
I think I'm going to have to buy a pepsi though, cause I'm falling asleep in my chair.
How about you?
I'm good! Today is my last day on this job and I can't wait to get out. Hopefully I will be able to leave early and start my four weeks off. Yippeeeeee! I have big plans I tell ya.
Congratulations, there's hardly anything better than leaving a job!
4...Weeks???
Tell me tell me tell me tell me!!!!!11
I know I'm so very excited. I'll need a couple of days to recoup and catch up on some sleep but then it's a free for all. I have appointments that I have to make, a shade garden to create and people to re-connect with. I love what I do but it's pretty intense and takes up a lot of my time. I'm also glad each gig only lasts a few months. The only sucky part is having to look for a job constantly. I don't know how people can work at the same place, with the same people for years and years. I love the constant change. If you don't like someone, just wait a couple of months and you don't have to see them again.
W00h00!! Sounds like a fantastic career!
Good luck with the shade garden, the mingling with old friends and the relaxation!!
I would kill to have 4 weeks off in the summer!
Ah, old friends - I count mine the most priceless of all I have accumulated in my life. Cherish them!
Good Night for me Good morning for you...
Good Morning kids! Hope all is well.(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/2.gif)
I'm having a great day! Been at work for almost 3 hours and made about $1200.
:)
Some Chick, I'm impressed!
If you ever have trouble finding ways to spend all that cash shoot me a PM!!
Happy Tuesday!!
;)
It's spent. Between my daughter and my mortgage...
I'm always going to have to work.
That must be a great feeling to make that much in a few hours, some chick.
One day, I will be working for myself. I already have something in mind....
The best part is that every time I make money, another organization in the US is better equipped to raise the funds they need for their non-profit activities.
I like being part of a ripple effect.
Eventually I would like my own business as well. I am planning on running it with my daughter when she's old enough and taken the schooling for it. That's another reason I need to earn alot. Schooling a kidlet ain't cheap.
Well I make 21 dollars an hour but sadly I only work 2hrs a day.
[span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"]sadly I only work 2hrs a day.[/span]
Actually, I'm impressed.
Most days I don't work at all (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/19.gif)
Yeah but I work when most people in the northern hemisphere are sleeping.
And how does that make you feel?
Not good. I don't get any social interaction because I work alone. Just me and the BBC World Service and talking to myself. This why I've become pretty good in british and irish accents. Always listen to World Update at 4am ct/2am pt time with Dan Damon. Then I watch BBC World News on BBC America from 5ct am to 8ct. But the worst thing about the job is the sleep schedule. I can't seem to get things going during the day. I'm pretty sluggish.
*Yawns and stretches*

Mornin' all :)
Good morning SC.
Good morning you lazy f*cks ;)
Happy Wednesday and all that.
SC, get me some coffee while you're at it, this day is draaaaaging.
Hiya, Teh!
*Blink*
Get YOU coffee?
I have newbie I'm training that gets coffee for me. I'll send him out for you too. Flip me a toonie though, Starbuck's don't come freeeeeee.
Morning! Just dropping to say HI and get caught up. I wouldn't want to get too far behind.
Hope everyone is well.

What have you been doing with yourself????

Howdy there pardna...I've been busy working at my new job. Not to mention my century old computer makes me mad.
So this is where eveyone's hidding out these days....oh to be back with good friends....and to be idolized again.
Got some grapes for me?
Since Purelife seems to be delinquentin her duties, I'd be happy to do the honors ;)
*feeding Isis peeled grapes*
So work is keeping you busy? Sorry to hear that. The best jobs, IMO, leave one completely free to pursue their interests while maintaining a facade of mature professionalism. Some people seem to prefer challenging careers that keep their mind and body occupied, though. Crazy...
Work is busy...true, but it's because I work nights and end up sleeping part of the day away. It allows me to get things done during the day before work, so it works out for me.
So...I'm moving to Edmonton, probably in the fall sometime. Just waiting for my ICBC settlement to roll in and then I'm gone. I figured I needed some change. Vancouver is getting old for me.
Well I gotta go...need to do some things while I'm off today. I'll drop in later...
ciao baby!
Yes, please come back soon!!
Start a thread here about how much Van sucks.
You'll probably draw Swan Dive over and we'll have another soul in the bucket.
Recruit! Recruit! Recruit!
OMG, I missed Isis's presence. I had to grab some lunch. Ah well...
Are you planning to visit CK eventually? Why Edmonton...just curious.
How was everyone's lunch? For lunch, I had a chicken wrap and a chicken gumbo soup. Yummy.
Wrong thread, Purelife!!!
Oh well, the Lunch thread is covered in cobwebs anyway.
Your Lunch does indeed sound YUMMY PL! I had some shrimpy noodles, corn chips and Pu Ehr tea.
Word.
Wong thread? whutdoyamean? I'm confused.....
I meant it's not the Lunch thread, but I was only teasing.
Xenu's throne, I can't believe it's only 2:30!
Halp...
Ahhh...I see. I guess that I just have to bless you for teasing me...kee hee.... :D
Wow! 2:40! Yippee....I'm almost oughta here...not that I don't want to be here or something....
I'm sore from my workout yesterday.
Hiya purelife...sorry, I had some errands to do and then lunch. mmmm food...
Edmonton...it's a place I haven't lived yet...still close and cheap enough to return home to the parents if needed...and there's a really great guy there waiting for me. Plus job opportunities are better there then here for me.
awww...that is excellent to hear, Isis. I'm happy that things are working out for you. Yes, I've heard great things about Edmonton. I was planning to visit this city some time soon just to have an idea of how it is. Vancouver sure is getting to be so damn expensive. It's so difficult to save anything with the money I make. Two jobs isn't enough.
Its cold in Edmonton. That's what I heard anyway...

Winters can be cold there. Summers are pretty damn warm though. That town has some pretty cool festivals too. The Fringe, folk fest, jazz, and blues fests there are some of the best in North America.

Good Morning!
ouch...shot down!
