Bus pass? Low energy lightbulbs?
Or Beer and Bingo???
If I was eligible or received it anyway, I'd buy a bike.
Dunno. It will probably end up back in the government's pocket.
I'm going to buy the sun.
Hey! That would be a pretty sweet return if you could buy a bike or the sun!
I will throw a spotted owl BBQ party for all my friends.
lol. To BBQ some spotted owls? Or to invite spotted owls for dinner?
Hookers and blow.
I think I'll take the bus.

Im similar. Booze and Loose Womens.
Seriously? Ill probably not even notice it. Almost certainly it will go on booze.
Hmm How much money is the provincial government giving back?
Much less than they will be taking.
$100 per person. Mine arrived in the mail today.
I think I can get a good price on the sun. It doesn't seem like it's being used much.
Ah okay! Yeah I knew it was something around there. So yeah, if I had a cheque that's half way to a cheap bike.
Not sure Michel.....but I'm sure it's just a buffer before they slap us upside the head with another tax.
Yes, I think it is something like you pay 1000% tax and get a .01% climate action dividend.
Those may not be the exact percentages...but something like that.
Sounds about right Van

What if everyone bought $100 worth of Gas-X? Would that improve air quality in the province?
It comes out sooner or later right? (gas)
I don't think that would solve the problem.

Hmmmm. That explains a few things about the new Finance Minister Colin Hansen.

lol Lise. Poor (ahem) little guy. He must be very uncomfortable......and worse, I bet the mice laugh at him.
I've started to memorize the bike routes of Vancouver. Gosh it would be so awesome if they had a bike path from UBC to downtown if it only wasn't for the Point Grey neighbourhood. lol
We're still deciding what to do with our collective $400.
Here are some suggestions courtesy of the Eco News on Vancouver Island.

The definition of resident for the Climate Action Dividend is the same as resident for income tax purposes. An individual is generally considered to be resident where the individual, in the settled routine of their life, regularly, normally or customarily lives. The following factors, among others, would normally be considered in determining residency status: the location of the individual's home, spouse, and dependants.

LOL all my friends are getting this, hilarious. If I only was able to land a job during the school year on campus. lol Wait, according to the rules I had 'residency in BC' by Dec. 2007. So who knows. lol

I got a T2 form. So I don't know... I'm not counting on it, but it would be cool if I got one. I could get a sweet bike.
Starting in late June 2008, the dividend will be mailed automatically to every eligible adult who has filed either a 2006 or 2007 personal income tax return for British Columbia.
Don't you have to have had a job in BC to file a personal income tax return ? No offense SD, but I think I'd almost be a little PO'd if you WERE eligible.
Well it says on the website you don't have to be a Canadian citizen. I have a Canadian address and the Federal government considers me a resident.
Did you work here and earn an income and pay income TAX ?
Yeah, I only did federal stuff not BC.
Doesn't matter anyway, I'd find away to not spend it. I don't understand the need for 'tax breaks' especially where I come from are usually geared toward only to the wealthy and a call to cut essential services for normal people. I just see them as a gimmick for vote buying on the working class when these 'tax breaks' don't help the overall majority of the country.
Yeah, I only did federal stuff not BC.
And what 'Federal' job did you do here ? What 'any' job did you do when you were here ?
I got the federal stuff because I go to a post secondary institution in Canada. They give it to everyone who goes to something past secondary school. T2202A Tax Form
I know.
So you didn't really answer my question.
Did you work here and earn an income and pay income TAX ?
That is the only way you would be eligible for this dividend.
Because further down on the FAQ it says if you were a resident prior to Dec 2007
We're still discussing, but it looks as though we're all going to buy inline skates with our dividends.
Thank you Gordon Campbell, for the bread and circus.
I'm going to buy gas.
okay so
Sawdust buys gas
Lil Me gets inline skates
friend uses the money for a new credit card
lol
Interesting.
I'm buying a bike through the Birthday Action Dividend.
How come you haven't receive your dividend, Michel? Most ppl I talked to already got theirs.

I might be an Ontarian resident by mistake
I thought being an Ontario resident was a mistake:)
I was one of the lucky ones that escaped many moons ago.
Why? What's so bad about being a.... howdoyoucall it... Ontarion?
Ontario looks like Illinois to me. Especially Windsor to Toronto. We thought so anyway when we drove through.
Isn't that their premier in the picture?
spent it on beer and 30 bucks in the gas tank actually.
Got my bike money. So I'm set.
I spent mine on an ocean cruise to Vancouver on the Queen of Much Needed Repair. What a sad state those ferry's are in. The washroom was repulsive. I remember a time, that during any trip, there was always ongoing maintanence.....fresh paint on the railings, swabbing the poop deck.........Now?....nothing.
I wonder if someone shouldn't familiarize them with the concept that, sometimes to MAKE money...you have to LOWER the prices. The trip on the way over was filled to only 22% capacity. That is insane during the summer months. Granted, travelling in general is down with the cost of fuel, but that is just wrong. I know I would use the ferries more often if the price were reasonable.
I will always prefer to have safety, cleanliness, respect of the users and efficiency before profits. For what I remember, the ferry were not frequent enough, very expensive compare to the rest of Canada and food was just terrible.
I agree Michel....and it once was. The ferries (a long time ago) used to be every hour on the hour. Always. Extra sailings on holidays and during the summer. They were clean, the staff was friendly, the food was good. Now it costs 5 times as much, and none of those things are present.
It took 2 hours and 10 minutes for my trip over.....it's supposed to an hour and 35 minutes. We sat out in the bay for 20 minutes as the captain explained that they were cleaning the dock. What the.....!!!!!! TIMING PEOPLE....TIMING !!!!
Did you eat a Sunshine Breakfast with coffee that tastes like metal urn?
Oh God no. I usually read in my car.

You are just jealous cause you havent had one in a while!
EDIT: sorry if some of my messages lately are messed up.. I got a new laptop the other day and some of the buttons are in different places.
I stick with the soup. Manhattan clam, beef barley or navy bean.
Mind you, the Buffet on the Schwartz Bay run is ok.
Buffet is good.. its also quiet in there which i like. I hate it when Im seated in there and a family comes in with screaming kids that run all over the place.. Usually next to me. Not that its not allowed or anything.. everyone was a kid at one time or another. I just seem to get them beside me. lol.
i find I usually wait until halfway through the ride before going into the meal lineup otherwise I do get swamped in a huge lineup.
Starfishie and myself do like what you do PC.. we stay down in the vehicle reading or playing crib.
I always bring a blanky and a pillow.....hit the full recline on my seat and read. It's too icky up on deck.....except this trip I couldn't recline. Tile cutters, sink, tiles, chop saws, bar stools..........were in the way of a good comfort.
Although we did go up AND EAT last night, as it would have been so late by the time we got home. I had dined on take-out for 10 days and was looking for something more.....food-like. Wrong place to do it. Tonight we DINE.
Aw P.C. Happy dining today!!!
I love the outside deck in the summer.
In the other 3 seasons, I read on the "icky" vinyl seats.
And cheaper. Once you get a sandwich, a drink, some fries, etc...you've suddenly spent $15.
horseshoebay - victoria
P.C. you didn't go from Duke Point did you? Those boats are 50 years old.
Nope......Departure Bay. And they're all ancient tubs. (well, except for the new one....that I missed)
Don't talk to me about missed ferries!!! I went to catch the 6:20 am ferry last week so I could get in a full day and see the new ferry. My ticket stamp was 6:16, 1 minute late for the boat. Grrrrrrr.
ps. The Buffets are only on the Spirit class boats between Victoria & Van.
Ah so you missed the cruise ship that already had graffiti on it (when I took it) lol.
Well if you think the soon to be replaced ferries are bad, you didn't take the ones that were commissioned in the 50s.
Apparently in order to restart to my BC Med, I've got to go back to the government building I 'suspended' it. So that means a ferry trip! woot, bring back old times.

I have no problem with them advertising that we are hosts to the world in 2010, and we have lived on the island longer than you have been alive so I think we have seen, sailed and suffered on all the shitcans BC Ferries has put afloat.
Well, I took the 50s ferry once, thought it was depressing. That's all, but I found it cool at the same time, its 'oldness'. The "graffiti" was not the Olympic stuff, I'm not anti-olympics or pro-olympics (although Nanaimo's Olympic screen is a bit silly) although everybody at home thinks its cool and gets jealous. Somebody wrote/sprayed on the viewing deck.
Oh, I've never seen one with actual graffitti, but some of the stuff the kids do is amazing, really artistic and creative. I agree Michel, we spent $250 for us to go over to the mainland, not a cost you incur on a whim.

Maybe not....but I still recognize a filthy tub when I see one. I don't 'think' the B.C. Ferries are in a bad state of repair.....I KNOW they are in a bad state of repair. And the lack of pride in the fleet is blaringly apparent.
yeah. Brings me back to my Nanaimo days when 4 of us would on a friday night, spontaneously take the last ferry to Vancouver. "Last ferry to Freedom" hahaha
Doesn't matter to me what the ferry is, still get a kick out of taking them. Then again, I like all non-car transportation. Get to act like a kid thinking to myself "Look at me, I'm taking a ferry, holy cow this is awesome."
Get the same feeling with skytrain. lol
I think we as a society don't have pride in much of anything anymore. Part of the culture now, people don't value a job for example, because we're all drifters now, we can freely move from one job to another. We don't have 'identification' anymore. We like new things, (bridges, boats, tvs, computers) but do we rarely ever keep something long? Hardly. Something new comes out we replace it. Materialism mixed with short attention spans. Like the Minnesota bridge collapse or a new arena or stadium for a sports team. If its old (something more then a decade old), its no good, get rid of.
Wow, indeed this is a lot !!! Ridiculous, if they lower the price, they would sure get more visitors, this would help the island.
True Michel......and not only for the benefit of tourism. Residents with family (on either side) would likely use it more regularly if the fare were reasonable. I would probably visit far more often....I have family on the mainland.....and they would do the same. I could easily see myself visiting 10 times more than I do.....and I know a ton of people with the same thoughts.[/DIV]

That novelty would wear off rather quickly I'm afraid. When it becomes the means to connect with family that are no more than a couple hours away, but it costs half a months mortgage payment, then it's not so awesome.
Yeah I understand that problem.
The Island is becoming its own province, people imprisoned by ferry costs stay on the Island, costs prohibit normal folk from visiting. The Canadian Hawaii.
Why do you need a recycling bin? What will you be using it for?
I know the City gives away those blue bins for households to use for Recycling day and then I see them for sale...(can't remember where I've seen them)
I know that Costco sells a laundry sorter.
You could get bins from Superstore. They are about $4.
LOL beggers can't be choosers and..... ;)
Ikea has stacking recycling bins.
And... I think that BC Ferries should either be FREE or damn cheap for walk-on passengers and cyclists.
Especially since the Victoria-Vancouver run is part of the Trans Canada highway.
Nah, we should leave those bums where they are. They keep moving out west and collecting EI in every other province.
I would like a decent looking recycle station too Michel. I'm going to draw one up and have Mr. Sawdust build me one. I don't want a big ol blue plastic bin in the house either. Has to be purdy.(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
Are these purdy enough for you, PC?

Why they're......umm......lovely Miss purelife. They're so purdy, I'd put them in the living room.
A classic Mom&Pop team. ;)
I knew you'd love it... (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/12.gif)
Personally, I've gone through different systems with recycling bins, bags, etc. I've ditched them all in favour of leaving a day's worth of newspapers, cans, etc. by the door and then getting the crap outside every night (into the big blue bins) instead of storing it forever in my hallway.
Hubby takes all our recyclable himself.....we don't do the curb thing. We bag our booze bottles in separate small bags and leaves them on the ground beside the bins for the binners instead of cashing them in. He started noticing that they were there very early in the morning going through the huge recycle dumpsters at the Home Depot.....so now he just makes it a little easier for them.
I don't keep my own bins anymore.
I put the stuff in the complex's recycling every night when I throw out my garbage.
That's cool, P.C. I guess you don't have binners wheeling their shopping carts thru the woods to find you! (or Scouts running thru the woods to knock on your door and ask for bottles)
Actually we do get the scouts a couple times a year. It's jackpot city here for them. I think they have our address at the top of their list, as the last time they backed the truck in before knocking. As you know, it's not the most back-in-able driveway.
Oh, c'mon. $100 buys a lot of steak.
Don't forget Miss Kitty, Lil Me.
Oh right. Maybe she eats as much steak as Garfield.

LOL I'm telling you comrades, with the capitalist crisis that we're living through and our $ going down, at Christmas, a steak will be 100 $. Yep you read it on DS first, remember...
Go to Gothams Steakhouse here in Van if you dont believe steak can be a 100 bucks. It sure shocked the shit outta me.
I spent mine on booze if I can remember correctly.
I'll bet we could ALL go eat steak at Zellers for $100.
what happened? Today US$1.00 = Canada$1.20, only earlier in year US dollar was worth 99cents Canadian.
