Title: Lost and Found
Post by: P.C. on Jun 26 08 07:49
I posted on this subject a year or so ago when I discovered about 30 of my CD's of data were blank.  NOW, I have just discovered that all of my 2006 photos (plus a few other photo files) are gone off my hard drive.

Can anyone tell me how far back those programs that retrieve lost files goes ???

Oh no! I am not sure about that? We need more of a computer person like TehBorken to help you out.

I can't believe they're gone.  The whole year.  I have a file set up for each year from 2002 to 2008....with 12 folders for each month, in each one.  I can't imagine where or how they could have disappeared.  I have scoured through absolutely everything, in the hopes they were just accidently dragged and dropped somewhere else.  No such luck.

This is stuff right off my hard-drive Michel.  Not the CD's.  (I've given up on them)

Nope...no magnets.  Even if it were a magnet issue.....why just the one year.  Magnets have something against 2006 ?  (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)

Six IS a very magnetic number.  I should use solar numbers on my files.

Ouch! That must suck. I didn't know that it could happen to your CDs. Don't know the answer to your question but I hope you find a solution soon. Good luck, lady.

Thanks Lise.  I think they're gone gone gone.  CD's DO have a shelf life....so beware.

Michel, that's the weird thing....we have everything backed up on a portable hard-drive, and shockers of shockers.....it wasn't on there either.  Which means it's been 'missing' for over a year.  I am SO bummed out about this.

It IS weird Michel.  When we got our digital camera in '02, the first thing we did was set up a system that would make it easy to locate our pictures.  A folder marked by year with 12 files for each month.  Here's the weird part.  The 2006 folder is still there.....it's just empty.  All 12 files gone.  That kind of eliminates the possibility of an accidental 'drag and drop.'  [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/traurig/a010.gif" border=0]

Pardon my ignorance of such things, but what would cause them to be 'written over' ?

I thought I hit the jackpot today.  I was going through some old CD's looking for the possibility that some of the lost pictures may be on any of them.  I found one marked 'back-up of all photos'.  I was so excited......only to discover it only contained back-up for 2002 to the end of 2005.   *CRY*
