Title: Darwin In Action

Oddly enough, "massive stupidity" wasn't listed as a cause of death.

Exhaustion, exposure thought to blame; toxicology tests pending

DALLAS, Texas (AP) -- A man running from a routine traffic stop early Tuesday sank waist-deep in mud and apparently died of exhaustion and cold while authorities tried to pull him out.

Deputies stopped Shawn E. Leflore, 33, for having an outdated registration sticker, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Don Peritz said.

"He thought he was wanted. That is why he ran," Peritz said. "But it turns out he wasn't wanted for anything, except his driver's license was expired."

Leflore ran about 700 yards off the road, where he got stuck in the mud, Peritz said. The weather was windy, and temperatures were in the upper 30s in the dark field, which had been saturated by heavy rain.

Deputies searched about an hour before finding him. They called for help and tried for another hour to pull him out, but Leflore died, Peritz said.

Peritz said officials believe Leflore suffered from exhaustion and exposure. Toxicology results were pending.

A passenger in Leflore's vehicle was not injured.

Yes, the header says it all, but I just wonder what crime that guy committed.  Maybe it was serious.

No crime, as it turns out:

"He thought he was wanted. That is why he ran," Peritz said. "But it turns out he wasn't wanted for anything, except his driver's license was expired."

I'm thinking he may not have been wanted for something....YET.  Surely only someone with a guilty conscience would go to such extremes to evade the police.

Some people just hate the police. I used to be like that due to my job at night and the way the cops look at you, will kinda freak you out and get to you. I'd get pulled over for throwing a paper for a car dealership and the cop would harass me ask if I was hiding any pot under all the papers.

Then I went into a school parking lot and some rookie cop called for back up for who knows what, about 15 cops should up, I got frisked, searched and had a background check done on me all because there was a huge drug deal that went down the night before and they thought I was a drug dealer.

I was late to the movies once and I sort of drove on the wrong side of the road for about 10 feet to get to a short cut and a cop just went crazy on me cursed me out and verbally assaulted me in front of my sister and my dad who was on the phone. jerk.

So whenever a cop would pull me over I'd start to shake and look like I was hiding something but in reality it was due to the way cops had treated me before.

So you can see I don't like cops.

Cops are just people. Some are cool, some aren't.

Driving on the wrong side of the street?  Did you think you were in England?
