I don't see many people on here lately. Has everyone gone on holiday, or are you all too busy to write any more?
Thats what I've been wondering. Like for example Kits is still active on DV but hasn't shown up here since the begining of May. CK hasn't been on since the Flames were eliminated from the playoffs. Maybe people are just too busy I guess.

Hmmmm. My DS time has been pretty limited the last week or so, but I notice when I do get a chance to come on and 'catch up'.....there's not much to catch up on. Good question Kitten.

Is it the harmony between us all that is scaring people away? Are we so nice that it makes others uncomfortable? I've never understood how being friendly and polite could drive people away.

I think a lot of it is one-upmanship in a mean way. One shows how nasty he (or she) can be, and the next tries to top it.

If you've noticed the new arrivals in the past few days, a trickle of DV-ism has leaked in through a crack in the side wall. Nothing to worry about by itself though, unless it spreads to the point that it infects the behaviour of others already here. After a deeply feeble attempt at trying the master, I decided to lock the beast away when I came here. At times it screams to come out, but then I simply take it for a walk. On DV.
It's amazing how people will behave when they know that a code of behaviour will be enforced.
I'd love to post more. I work so much as well as trying to be a decent husband and a father leaves me about an hour or less a day for all computer goof-off time. You cats are lucky that get internet access at work all day (even though you have to sit at a desk all day to do it).
I think it's funny that our congeniality and cordial debate frightens people off. It seems to say something about people and the internet but I'm not sure what.

Not more responsibilities. I'm responsible for everything now. But I don't have the physical strength I used to, and there is heavy lifting involved. My back is launching a serious protest.

Oh dear kitten. Take it easy. Remember to keep your back straight and knees bent... I heard that hot showers on the back helps relieve pain. Back raises helped me when my back got sore before.

Purelife, my job requires moving and adjusting a patient's position, as well as reaching across to feed her, since she often forgets that she is eating. All this contributes to back and arm strain, and perhaps age does the rest. She refused a proper bed lift, so it has to be done with brute strength.

As far as my studies, I'm very much enjoying them, it's just the exams I dislike.
We've been going on a lot of field trips to local gardens and nurseries lately, and that's a fantastic change from watching videos and reading our texts!

What Mike doesn't get is that each time you hire a mod you're taking a chance. You really can't judge someone's character based on their Net persona, and he may find that out the hard way if he hires some n00b because they happen to be popular or are skilled at boot-licking.
It's good to hear that you're doing something that you enjoy tenkani. I remember our talks about plants....I'm such a noob. :)
Tenkani, theory is great for starters, but actually experiencing what you have been studying makes it so much more meaningful. The tactile input has a way of reinforcing in your mind everything you have learned.

You guys are right about the hands-on, which is why I'm a plant n00b even after 2 semesters!!
I'm trying to get experience, but the best way to do that would be to find work in horticulture, but I can't afford to quit my job yet. D'oh. The next best thing is to grow plants in my spare time, which I'm doing, but it's very hit and miss right now.
As far as registration on DV goes, After about the 3rd missed deadline I realized it probably won't happen. If it does, fine, but I'm not holding my breath. I just think that honesty would have been better than all the broken promises. Just say "it's too much work and we've got more important things to do" and I would at least respect them for being upfront with their slothful ways.

I think there is a little more ebb than usual.
Somehow I missed that you were studying horticulture (until recently) How long have you been studying for this, and how long is the course ? I have a sister that's never had a day of formal study, and is amazing with plants (trees, shrubs, veggies etc). She can grow anything and knows all plants by their botanical names. She can bring back plants that appear to not have a shred of life in them (they even save the less 'attractive' plants to give to her at some of the stores where she lives) They not only survive, she pinches and prunes and snips in all the right places to make them lush and beautiful.
I'm envious.

Half the trick in gardening is to realise that plants, like everything create, respond to love and affection.
Is the other half having decent soil to work with?
No the other haf has two quarters, one is decent soil, the other is the plant's determination to love you in return.
I think I'm missing that quarter. My plants look up at me and say, "Oh no, not her again". Or at least I think that's what they say. As I mentioned, I don't speak flower.
In that case you're not talking to them in the right tones, they understand English quite well apart from their own language - I've found that as long as affection is expressed they'll be quite happy and will no longer insult you with "Oh, it's her again". In fact, mine have NEVER spoken back to me, which is proof indeed that I'm on the right track.
I do hope that Tenkani will also take note of all this useful advice.
You probably use a more masterful tone when addressing them. I tend to be rather timid in my approach. Maybe they need more of that "Me boss, you flower" attitude.
Quite the reverse, they react best to soft tones and tenderness
This summer I plan to spend more time on the patio playing soft classical music to them. Perhaps Brahms lullabies or something by Liszt.

Thank for the good wishes at docs. Yipes......haven't been for years, and now 2 trips in the last couple months. Kidney is killin me.....and my hand that I was having trouble with is starting to look weird. He said last time, there was nerve deterioration, but now the cushy muscle (?) between the thumb and index finger (just above the 'web') is GONE. It just disappeared almost overnight. What's with THAT.
