More than 20,000 brands of beer
Worldwide, 20,000 brands of beer are brewed in 180 styles, from ales, lagers, pilsner and stouts to bitters, cream ales and iced beers.

Beer has been a popular beverage for a long time. Babylonian clay tablets show detailed recipes of beer making in 4300 BC. Beer was also brewed by the ancient Chinese, Assyrians and Incas.

An Egyptian text of 1600 BC gives 100 medical prescriptions using beer. A few years ago, the New Castle Brewery in England brewed 1,000 bottles Tutankhamun Ale from a 3,200-year old recipe found in the sun temple of Queen Nefertiti.

Commercial beer making was established in 1200 AD in present-day Germany. In 1506, the German Purity Law is issued, specifying that beer ingredients must only be water, barley, wheat and hops. Bottling of beer started in 1605.

I'm wondering if there is anybody who can give me some information on what the rule is for finishing the 'triangular attic' space that runs the length of the low side of an A-frame house.  I can't seem to find anything on google....because I'm certain I'm not asking the right question.

I have a vague recollection from way back....that someone told me you couldn't 'finish' this space because it would cause condensation problems.  (but I wasn't paying attention back then)

NOW, I want to do put in some storage shelving etc....but it's creepy in there with the insulation exposed and it gets VERY cob-webby.  So I'd like to finish and paint in there....but ????????

Anybody know anything about this ?

Just talked to Miss Kitten and she would like to pass on her 'hello's' and her 'I miss you alls'.  Her computer is broken.  Some dufusses that came in to do work at her house knocked it over and busted it.  (For various reasons, she can't hold them liable for the damage (?))  But anyways.....she says hi to all !!!!!....and I took it upon myself to say Hi back from all of you.

Dubbed the NoPoPo (Non-Pollution Power) Aqua Batteries, these will come in AA and AAA form factors and will be available exclusively in Japan only. You can use a variety of fluids to charge them, including your pee. Whenever the battery is recharged, it will end up with a lower power level than before. Each battery lasts up to 5 recharges at best before they're rendered unusable. No idea on how much it costs though, but you can be sure these are environmentally friendly since they do not contain mercury or other harmful materials.

Well....for someone who doesn't like zucchini.

  My kids loved this stuff.

  Pine-ini

4 qts cubed or shredded zucchini
46 oz canned unsweetened pineapple juice
1-1/2 cups bottled lemon juice
2 cups sugar

Peel and dice up zucchini.  Mix with all the other stuff in a large pot, and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes.  Fill your jars.....process.

It's a great recipe to have when all your friends bring you all their excess zucchinis. (and there are usually tons)

Edit:  I tried it shredded once, and I didn't care for it.  When it's cubes, it tastes like fresh pineapples with the texture of pears.

This story just melted my heart.

They're an odd couple in every sense but a monkey and a pigeon have become inseparable at an animal sanctuary in China.  The 12-week-old macaque - who was abandoned by his mother - was close to death when it was rescued on Neilingding Island, in Goangdong Province. After being taken to an animal hospital his health began to improve but he seemed spiritless - until he developed a friendship with a white pigeon.

But the picture finished me off.

This story sickens me.....and it sickened me even more when I saw her racing to beat this train.

Do you think she should be charged with murder?  A friend was saying she'll suffer enough when it sinks in what she has done.  I disagree.....I want her to suffer more. (I know how awful that sounds....but JEEZ.....it was an unecessary act all for the sake of getting somewhere 5 minutes earlier ?????)

The woman's two daughters were killed in the Saturday morning collision, and her two sons were injured. The driver, Edie Bolanos, remained hospitalized in critical condition on Thursday, officials said.

The video shows a 1999 Mercury Villager driving rapidly through the station's parking lot alongside an eastbound freight train. As the mini-van turns south onto the Johnson Avenue crossing it is hit by a westbound train, then by the eastbound train.

I can't remember if I already started this topic or not.  But if I did, I couldn't find it.

This show airs late on Saturday night, and is surprisingly REALLY good.

This was one of the half dozen ads featured last night, and I'd have to say it's one of the best commercials !!!  (Ariston washing machine).

Keep in mind, this is all done with articles of clothing.  Excellent !!!

We are looking to buy a new camera.  In sorting out what we want out of a camera, we decided we might need 2.  I want a good camera for taking photographs that will capture images in any lighting.  (no flash)   Whether it's an indoor candlelit evening or a landscape after dusk.

I also want a little pocket camera that is basically point and click.  I'm OK with a picture over a photograph for things that are captured for the moment.

Lise.....your flower photographs are beautiful.  I wonder what your level of knowledge is in photography.....and what kind of camera you have.

SD....you have also posted some lovely photographs.....I know I asked you before, but what kind of camera did you use.....and what is your level of knowledge in photography.

What household jobs does anybody consider to be 'not MY job'?

  For example....toilet cleaning.....taking the garbage out.....mowing the lawn....doing the dishes.....etc.

What 'arrangement' works for you in your relationships, as far as doling out the daily drudgeries ?

Do you share 50/50 ?

Do you each have designated chores ?

Who does what....and who would 'NEVER do THAT'.

A valuable cross dating to the Middle Ages has turned up in a trash bin in Austria. (AP Photo/Kerstin Joensson)
[/tbody]
[/p]VIENNA, Austria (AP) - A valuable cross dating to the Middle Ages has turned up in a trash bin in Austria.  [/p]Police in Salzburg say a woman looking for old crockery in a trash container in the western Austrian town of Zell am See stumbled upon the precious piece in 2004. They say she apparently she had no idea of it's value and just stashed it behind her couch.  [/p]Now experts say the cross could be worth as much as C$575,000.  [/p]A local museum has custody of it, at least for the moment. And whether the trash-foraging woman, who has not been identified, will get so much as a penny for her find has yet to be determined.  [/p]Officials say it appears the cross had been looted from a Polish art collection by the Nazis during the Second World War.  [/p]The Austria Press Agency quoted police official Christian Krieg as saying the woman found the cross after a hotel owner who lived in Zell am See died and his home was being cleared by relatives.[/p]  [/p] [a href="http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2007/08/16/4422837-ap.html"]http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2007/08/16/4422837-ap.html[/a][/p]
[/tbody]
What a sad state of affairs that you have to start dressing your kids in the same 'armour' as soldiers going off to war.

[P class=standfirst][STRONG style="DISPLAY: block"]LONDON -- Parents are sending their children to school in stabproof uniforms to guard against knife crime.

They are paying a firm that makes body armour to line blazers and jumpers with the stab-resistant material, Kevlar.

The precautions come as street crime spills over into schools. A wave of stabbings involving teenagers included the killing of promising footballer Kiyan Prince, just metres from his school in north London.

Kevlar is a synthetic fibre that can be spun into fabric five times stronger than steel, and is used in armoured vests worn by British troops in Iraq.

The Essex-based firm BladeRunner produces clothing lined with the material for police and security guards.

Director Barry Samms said the company initially produced stabproof hooded tops.

Parents then asked about the possibility of strengthening school uniforms with Kevlar.

They just ran this story on the news, that conversations can be picked up by other bluetooth users.....not JUST conversations you are having on your phone.....but even conversations you are having in your car.

They also listed another bunch of  'flaws' 'discovered' in the Bluetooth, and yet this email circulated back in 2003.

  Summary
-------

There are serious flaws in the authentication and/or data transfer mechanisms on some bluetooth enabled devices. Specifically, two vulnerabilities have been found:

Firstly, confidential data can be obtained, anonymously, and without the owner's knowledge or consent, from some bluetooth enabled mobile phones. This data includes, at least, the entire phonebook and calendar.

Secondly, it has been found that the complete memory contents of some mobile phones can be accessed by a previously trusted ("paired") device that has since been removed from the trusted list. This data includes not only the phonebook and calendar, but media files such as pictures and text messages. In essence, the entire device can be "backed up" to an attacker's own system.

Finally, the current trend for "Bluejacking" is promoting an environment which puts consumer devices at greater risk from the above attacks.

HA!  I knew you'd look.

  No....I'm not talking boobs here.

I'm talking about social dilemmas.....'petty problems' or annoyances.  Are they real problems or just things that we have to view in a different way.  Is there always a clear right or wrong ?  (clear as mud ?)  OK....here's one.

Do you think that a dinner invitation should include telling who else will be at the dinner ?  For example...some friends invited us for dinner the other night....saying  "yea...it's been a long time since we've gotten together".  I took this to mean that it would be the four of us.

We went out and picked up a sinful dessert  that we have always enjoyed together in the past...(for 4).  When we get there, there are 3 other couples (one with their teenage kid, one with 3 dogs and 1 of the couples we had never met).  Don't get me wrong....I like meeting new people....I like large dinner parties.....I like kids....I like dogs....I even like spontaneity.....so it makes no sense to me, why I felt a little bit bugged.

Has anybody watched this program?  It's really quite good.  I came across it by accident while channel surfing.  They take about half a dozen ads, and do a little study on them from an artistic viewpoint.  Last night, there was an ad they featured from Bravia.  It was so mesmerizing, it was beautiful.

I tried to find it, and I did, but it streams poorly not giving the proper effect.  Thousands of coloured rubber balls released down the hills of San Francisco.  But while I was looking for it, I came across another Bravia ad.  It too is awesome.
