Title: Is DS DV's "Mexico"?
Post by: Moolah! on May 26 06 07:07
See, in the old days when crossing the border wasn't such a big issue Americans young and old, would go down to Mexico for cheap hookers and booze.  [A onclick="addImg('icon/icon_smile_big.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"](http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/icon_smile_big.gif)[/A]

However eventually most gringos would return home and continue living in their law abiding ways.

I'm seeing a somewhat similar pattern here: Whenever the going gets tough at DV, there's a noticeable increase in traffic on DS.

However eventually most vacationing DVers pack up their suitcases and return home to carry on with their debauchery and other unlawful ways. [A onclick="addImg('icon/icon_smile_wink.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"](http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/icon_smile_wink.gif)[/A]

Only the refugees and a few die hard fans like myself (who's actually a registered member under a different nick) remain here.

What do you think of this analogy? Is DS DV's "Mexico"?

And if it's where're the cheap hookers?  [A onclick="addImg('icon/061.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"](http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/icon/061.gif)[/A]

I'd rather use the metaphor of Paris.  North Americans make a trip to another place where they believe they will have a good time and a rollicking holiday.  They don't realise they've travelled to a city where another standard of behaviour is expected and the denizens have no interest in adolescent pastimes.  They'd rather actually enjoy one another's company and share a more civilised discourse--in which people are free to disagree, and their point of view is respected.

Awfully boring to those who want to root around in the gutter.  Mind you, for those who know how to enjoy the culture, Paris can be a free-thinking Paradise--where pleasures they had not previously dreamed of are not wasted on those without the ability to appreciate them . . .

So is the salon of DS as compared to the free-for-all Crisco party of DV . . .

Not that Crisco parties can't be fun on occasion, when you feel like slumming.
