Title: Gmail?
Post by: Lise on Feb 14 07 03:06
Has anyone tried Gmail? How does it stack against Hotmail or Yahoo? Better?

I have it I got invited by this one girl on this other forum from Montreal. She had 100 free accounts to give out or something.

I haven't really needed another email account.  3 is enough lol.

Hi Lise I just noticed you're an Admin.

Did you just become one or am I just slow in noticing things? =)

Anyway, Congrats!

Gmail is going to become free in a few days. I'm just wondering if it was worth to sign up. Hm.

Hi Angel. Yes. I've been blessed by the powers that be to weave my whip and annoit those I see fit. I solemnly swear to use my powers for good and only good. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/13.gif)

Lise, I have Gmail.

It's free. It is totally useful.  It really puts hotmail and yahoo to shame.

It even has a built-in live chat feature.

Do you need a gmail invite?

Not for now. I got an invitation recently but I read that Gmail will be free for all to use. No invitation necessary. I'm just curious about it.

Thanks for the invitation tho. (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/liebe/f054.gif)

W00h000!!
As your first official duty can you ban gunta?
He was looking at me funny     >:(

On topic: I've been using yahoo for a couple years now and love it.
I'm using the new beta version right now and it's an improvement.

The disposable sub-accounts are SWEET (don't think gmail has something like that but correct me if I'm wrong).

Gmail also uses a new and "better" way to organize emails. Sorry, I'm fine with the way I have my email set up. I don't want to organize it differently.

But I understand why people like gmail and good for them!

Yeah yahoo gave me the option to use the new beta version as well and I didn't like to much was too hooked on the old one so I switched back.

gmail is free now. i think it was since yesterday. it is way better than hotmail and yahoo. it does take a while getting use to because instead of individual emails, you have a conversation thread. so if you are responding to someones email, and go back and forth with that person, you dont have 10 emails in your inbox, you only have one. it is kinda like a thread in this forum.

and you get massive storage space so you can send large files to each other.

the chat feature is kinda cool as well.

kingy, that is a very good way of describing gmail.  :)

Gmail is such a scam. They try to make it look all exclusive to attract users.

Hot mail has never failed me, plus I can access it from MSN Live.

Slightly off topic but I find this really creative:

It's not just the chocolate dipped strawberry substituting the letters g and l, but whomever designed this also thought of smearing some of the chocolate on the adjacent "o".

I have..or had...or have.. several. I don't like the interface. The page looks like something I might of created using crude html back when I was in high school.

Anyways, here's the latest news on the Gmail. Just thought I'd share it.
Google email service ready for all
[P class=timeStamp]Updated Wed. Feb. 14 2007 11:32 AM ET

 [P class=storyAttributes]Associated Press

[!-- dateline --]SAN FRANCISCO[!-- /dateline --] -- Google Inc.'s free email service will shed the final remnants of its invitation-only restrictions Wednesday, extending the reach of an increasingly popular product that has emerged as a vital cog in the online search leader's expansion efforts.

Invitations will no longer be required to join the nearly 3-year-old "Gmail" service in the United States, Canada, Mexico and a swath of Asian and South American countries where the Mountain View-based company previously limited the number of users.

With those restrictions now lifted, Gmail will be open to all comers worldwide for the first time since Google unveiled the service on April Fool's Day in 2004.

"It's a pretty momentous time for Gmail," said Keith Coleman, Google's product manager for the service.
