I'm somewhere in the middle between the Maggie-lovers and the Maggie-haters. Her reactionary and Tory values are not my cup of tea. I was there in the mid-1970's. The mood and condition in Britain were analogous to those of demoralized Weimar Germany shortly before Hitler used the Great Depression to come to power.
Had the Iron Lady not done the triage and reinforcing that she did, Britain would have gone to communism, Neo-Nazism or military seizure of power. Two things saved Britain's ass. Maggie, and the money from the discovery of North Sea oil.
Oh I agree there with the statement about she did the right things at the right time there.. but not all her ideals were good.
Im like that now with the current government in Canada. I dont like ALL they do, but I do agree with the general direction.
Take the F-35's for instance. It's a good general idea, as we need new fighters that will replace the current ones we have.. but the way it was decided and how they are budgeting is to me wrong. It is a single engined fighter which is against the policy they have had in place since the beginning.. and they can barely reach the top of canada with the range they have. They are not compatable with our current in air refueling capability, and there is no current plans to replace our in air refueling planes. <sigh>
