Expert Says Swine Flu Scare Just a Money-Making Scam
Calling it "one of the greatest medical scandals of the century," the head of [a href="vny!://www.opposingviews.com/questions/are-biotech-foods-safe"]health[/a] for the Council of Europe is calling for an [a href="vny!://www.opposingviews.com/tags/investigation"]investigation[/a] of the World Health Organization's declaration that [a href="vny!://www.opposingviews.com/tags/swine-flu"]swine flu[/a] was a pandemic.
Wolfgang Wodarg said making H1N1 an official "pandemic" was a goldmine for drug companies. "The great campaign of panic we have seen provided a golden opportunity for representatives from labs who knew they would hit the jackpot in the case of a pandemic being declared," Wodarg told the UK tabloid [em]The Sun[/em].
"A group of people in the WHO is associated very closely with the pharmaceutical industry," Wodarg claims.
Wodarg is calling for an investigation into the WHO declaration. "We want to clarify everything that brought about this massive operation of disinformation. We want to know who made decisions, on the basis of what evidence, and precisely how the influence of the pharmaceutical industry came to bear on the decision-making."
For it's part, WHO stands by its declaration, and says the pandemic is not over. This, despite the fact that just one state in the U.S. -- Alabama -- is still reporting widespread swine flu activity.
Wodarg is not the first expert to claim a great scam has been pulled on the world. Here at [em]OpposingViews.com[/em], one of our experts, Michael Fumento of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, has been writing since [em]last spring, [/em]saying the swine flu "pandemic" will be nothing more than the ordinary flu. Just yesterday he wrote:
[em]My [/em][a href="vny!://fumento.com/disease/flu2009.html" closure_hashcode_tldihe="1663" target="_blank"][em]first published article[/em][/a][em] on the subject, with the telling title "The Price of a Porcine Panic," appeared June 1. I said it would ridiculous for the WHO to declare a pandemic, and as soon as it did I wrote [/em][a href="vny!://fumento.com/disease/who.html" closure_hashcode_tldihe="1664" target="_blank"][em]why[/em][/a][em] it had been ridiculous. It was obviously milder than seasonal flu, when heretofore flu pandemics were defined by extreme severity.
Later on, as the data, came in, I documented how vastly milder swine flu was. This was before the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology made its incredible prediction of 30,000 to 90,000 [/em][a href="vny!://www.opposingviews.com/tags/deaths"][em]deaths[/em][/a][em].
No, the public health establishment bungled at best and lied at worst. I've written [/em][a href="vny!://www.fumento.com/suswineflu.html" closure_hashcode_tldihe="1665" target="_blank"][em]14 articles[/em][/a][em] at countless blogs about it. Don't let them off the hook this time. [/em]
