Every week there's a new issue on the news, regarding yet another thing, that used to be governed by common sense.   While at the same time people complain about the government being too involved in our business.

What our kids should or shouldn't eat....whether they should or shouldn't participate in gymn....should students be allowed to buy a soft drink at school......whether we should have one slice of cheese on a burger or two....(lol)

Is this because we have completely abandoned (or never developed) any use of common sense ?  Have we become so wrapped up in other things, that we neglect the basics in teaching our kids to develop their own common sense?

  What's going on with us ?   [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/k045.gif" border=0]

I dunno. It could be a lot of things, but I think it's always been like this, I don't think it's just a 21st century thing. A lot of people around my neck of the woods talk about the 'Gold Age' aka 50s. Usually they're talking about staunch moralistic society with TV shows like "Father Knows Best" etc. Have you looked at a Time magazine from the 50s? It's sexist, with sexist ads, women were confined to suburban homes, many had depression with these new suburbs popping up away from the city.

Anyway I think we haven't lost our minds, it's more of a media manipulation since they have become the be all end all. I've said before, I watched the news for a week, when I first came to Canada. The sky is falling, everything is falling apart sensationalism from them made me afraid to leave the dorm, in Canada, freaking safest place I've ever seen.

On the government thing, yeah that's typical. People want government out of their lives, yet they want government to help them. Cake and eat it too.

Anyway, what's got you going P.C.?

We've lost it.  I know I have.

I should have titled this one....Have we lost it ? .....or is it just me.  [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/more/bigs/c028.gif" border=0]

haha. No, I'm sure throughout time, somebody said 'we've lost it' or we wouldn't be humans. lol

I'm in agreement with you PC. There are days when I just step back and shake my head. You have to wonder at the stupidity of the human race sometimes. You would think that with our superior brains we would take care of ourselves, take care of the planet etc. but we're just so selfish and inmature that we refuse to see what's right or what makes sense.

Oh oh a good one is kids aren't playing outside anymore in open spaces. Parents are worried about abductions.

Can you blame us? We hear a lot and I do mean a lot about kidnappings and what-not. I don't let my children out of sight, not even for 1 minute. Call me paranoid but I can't help it.

Because the media tells us to be afraid.

......and I'm with Lise on this one.  Common sense tells Lise to be afraid....not the media.  Where it would register on my annoyance list, is if it was legislated that children were NOT ALLOWED to play outside because of the dangers....taking over where common sense has failed.

I got ya PC.

They really need signs at toxic waste dumps that say "No Swimming" so people don't swim in them.

I lost some faith in humanity when I seen a rapping grandma in the 90s.

Bingo !  That's IT Van.

I saw this little sweetie on the news the other night......two years old with 2nd or 3rd degree burns on his feet from walking on rubber mats under a jungle gym in a park.  Their solution ?  They want the park COVERED to prevent this from happening to another child.  ?????

Now I don't know if I'm off on this one, but wouldn't it just make more sense if parents used their common sense and kept the little guys shoes on... where there are any one of a number of reasons why this would be a good idea in a public park ?  There are already signs at this park warning the danger of the hot mats.
