End of an Era.. ah well. Hopefully the new one will be just as iconic in a few years.

Wow! And I was losing sleep over that fashion person dying....

Stelmach says the familiar heart-stirring song is as well-known as the national anthem and any talk of dropping it is ridiculous. [/p]  The premier says it may cost $500 every time the theme is played, but it's worth the money to keep something that Canadians hold dear. [/p]   Stelmach says he may even take his frustration to Hockey Night in Canada commentator Don Cherry.[/p]

They changed the song but here is when it still sounded close to the original:

C'mon, the city is sleeping!

And all this time I thought that was the lead in for Gunsmoke.  [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/figuren/a010.gif" border=0]

It's silly to talk of this tune as something all Canadians will miss.  I'm thinkin it's a tune most hockey fans will miss ?

Exactly. I wouldn't even notice if it was gone.

OMG! The country must be having a lot of "good news" days if this is even on the radar of 'anything significant'!

It is great to live in Canada, where things are soooo good!! (sorry for the sarcasm overload).

CTV just bought the rights to the"Hockey Night In Canada" Song.

Russ

Yeah! I heard something about that yesterday JJ... I can see someone in the other camp getting hauled into the big guys office and being in the unemployment lines tomorrow!

Good ploy but at the end of the day.. its still just a recognizable tune.
Mercy to the Guilty is Torture to the Victims

JJ

No, CTV was willing to pay $3 million for the song whereas CBC being a public company can't spend that kind of money.

Van

Good for CBC! That is yours and my $$$. Why should they? Maybe if hospitals across Canada were not crumbling.
Sorry, I guess this tune has never meant as much to me as it has become such a huge deal in the media. The Canadian soldiers that gave their lives during WW2 make me proud, not a hockey jingle. Then again, I am not into NHL.
