Who knew he was 84?  I would have guessed 64.
 
 [/p] VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A Canadian cooking icon has died. James Barber known for his longtime show 'The Urban Peasant' died suddenly Thursday on his farm in the Cowichan Valley. He was 84.[/p]  He was also formerly the restaurant critic for the Vancouver Sun. The family isn't releasing the cause of death yet.

I don't think I'd have put him at 84 either Lil Me.

  Sad as it is....how nice to have led a life that leaves something behind.

never saw an urban peasant show, the guy seemed really cool from his website.

No offence to the dead, but that dude always pissed me off. I hated his style of speaking -- always sounded like he was having a seizure FFS. I mean, yeah it's soup or mushrooms. Deal with it.

 Personally, I find his voice soothing.  James Barber and Rafe Mair were the background sounds of my childhood.

I feel guilty now, having looked at his website. Actually he always reminded me of Rafe Mair. They kind of look alike.
