I've just e-mailed the Chinese ambassador urguing his country's benign intervention/influence on the ruiling junta.

I thought it's no longer call Burma. Myanmar or something like that?

  I just saw a bit of the news. What's going on there? Some monks were protesting but I don't know why. Can someone elaborate?

Only the military dictatorship calls it the Mymaar. Rest of the world its still Burma.

Just think of Tiananmen Square in '89 Lise. Same thing going on except replace students with non violent buddhist monks.

  Why doesn't the UN step in and tell the authorities to stop killing all the protestors? Why isn't anyone doing anything?

UN is a funny organization.
They don't get involved in eternal country's problems. Only when somebody invades someone. Plus China is on the secruity council.
