oops, sorry about all the repetitive junk at the bottom of the post! ^

P.C.

LOL...it happens.

Someone who copies personal information from a computer or official document (with the exception of credit card and debit card data) and retains that information for future criminal use has not committed an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada. That's because the owner still has the information. All that is lost is confidentiality.

I've never thought of it as courageous to post ones real name.  I think it's kinda naive and maybe even  at the same time a tad narcissistic and a bit self promoting. (no offense Adam).

When I first came to DV, there were a lot of posters that you knew you wanted to hear more from.  At the same time, it was immediately apparent that there were numerous posters that did not fall into that catagory.  Letting some of them know what continent I lived on felt risky.  lol

I've only sometimes thought of it as courageous. Generally I think of it as just plain bonkers. I like AF though, and welcome his posts regarding the voting catastrophe in the US, and other issues.

Witch

I was hoping someone else would point it out, since Adam doesn't like my pointers at the best of time.

Given the nature of DV and the lack of any registration, I doubt you'd be able to convince a Judge that it wasn't your own negligence that invited someone to use your name.

The other side of the coin is in getting a judge or prosecuter to care. I mean you havn't really lost anything except perhaps your reputation on a board at which reputation is not in the least relevant.

The other side of the coin (yes i know it's two many sides) is how do you prove who did it. Even if you did manage to get the ISP to tell you what account held that particular IP at that particular time, you'd still have to prove which actual person was sitting at the keyboard. If it were a case where you actually lost a huge amount of money, you might be able to get the assistance of the RCMP, but since it's just an anonymous message board which no one takes seriously anyways, it's more likely they'd just tell you to go home and get over it.

Libel and slander really only apply when actual damage results. Trying to sue because your feelings are hurt is likely to just get you laughed out of court.

I think Adam would feel like he was being snubbed if I didn't give him a few nudges in the ribs.

Oh Oh.....that doesn't sound good.  I don't know what it is, but I think I better prepare to have my itty bitty feelings hurt.

P.C., I'm one of your biggest fans, and am happy that you're paying attention to my antics. Makes it all worthwhile.

You know what, I don't really care about harmless satire at my expense, as long as it is clear who the real Adam Fulford is.

I'm registered here, so there ain't no mistake as to who I am now.  I simply don't post in DV anymore, where I have been kindly banned (if my projects take off, it'll look like banning Picasso from drawing pictures in your coffeehouse).

P.C.,  I'm not narcissistic. I do promote myself, I admit.  As a writer/producer, I have to, and the appearance of my real name in forums has helped in Google ratings and suchlike for networking purposes.  It is part of a wider guerrilla marketing strategy (that worked wonderfully for last year's famous "Script Secrets" seminar by William C. Martell in Vancouver, who, by the way, is presently working on some major big-time movie projects).

BTW, there have been succussful slander lawsuits against internet group posters in the past, so there actually is legal precedent, but that's honestly not where I'm planning to spend my energies.

I seriously doubt that handle-jacking on a forum where you cannot get any monetary gain would be considered a criminal act.

Adam_Fulford

Thanks, P.C.  Is that a real photo?  I once had a cat who liked catching things, and would always bug me to play catch, but never with a frisbee.
