[font face="VERDANA, HELVETICA" size="2"]The Perfectly Equal Society:  In January, Canada's human rights commission was authorized by the Supreme Court to resume consideration of a union's claim that Air Canada's flight attendants (who are mostly women) are just as valuable, and therefore should be paid the same, as its pilots and mechanics (mostly men).

From the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. News, 1-26-06[/font]
[hr style="width: 100%; height: 2px;"]Maybe it's just me, but if I had to choose who had the more "valuable" job in the airline industry I think I'd pick the pilot over a flight attendant. I have nothing against flight attendants but the truth is they're considered "optional equipment" when it comes to flying a plane. [font face="VERDANA, HELVETICA" size="2"] [/font]
The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

unless they are trained in flying a plane then I think they have a gripe. Otherwise, not so much.

How ridiculous !!!!   So Donald Trumps mail boy, should get paid the same as the Donald ??

Well a more 'even' analogy.....the gal who shovels out the ape pen should get paid the same as the zoologist ???

[/DIV]Education for ape pen scooper ???  Learning the proper use and care of a shovel and which end most effectively gets the job done.  (not that there's anything wrong with the pooper scooper job)

 How absurd !!!!!

I always wonder why flight attendants don't get tipped as other servers in other industries

soapbox

get a grip indeed.

airline mechanics - up to 3 years post secondary education.responsible for the plane safety and souls onboard

pilots - up to 3 years post secondary.responsible for the plane and souls on board.

airline host(ess) - no post secondary.responsible for serving food and seating customers, supplying blankets and earphones.basic safety training.

I'm surprised they're not asking to be paid more than the pilots- after all, the only thing the pilot does is fly the plane. And they get to sit down while they do it, those slackers!

and not even that when plane is on auto-pilot....pilot then sleeps on the job

P.C.

and not even that when plane is on auto-pilot....pilot then sleeps on the job[/DIV] [/DIV]they have to catch a nap when they're on auto pilot......sometimes 3 or 4 cocktails will do that to a person.

(just kidding....sort of)[/DIV]

Witch

Keep in mind that the commission has only been authorised to consider the claim. If I claim that my paperboy should be paid the same as my neurosurgeon  the commission could consider the claim. Doesn't mean they have to find any merit in that claim.

Sportsdude

hey witch don't diss the paper boy we get some serious coinage.

That is whacked....I'd rather pay the people that fly and fix the planes more than the people that throw a bag of peanuts at me or roll their eyes when I ask for a blanket because the cabin is freaking freezing....

Yes I realize they are our safety line in case of a crash, but still, it is the pilots and the mechanics who keep the plane from crashing...

soapbox

yes, especially aircanada hosts who seem to always roll their eyes when asked for something that doesn't include alcohol.

aircanada is the worst.

i fly westjet.

international:[/DIV]luftthansa is the best[/DIV]british airways, second[/DIV]and of course, air kenya!!! man those landings can be fun!
